I think it looks amazingly better! My hats off to the fellow who mixed the paint. It appears to be a perfect match. However, if it were my car I would paint the rest of the areas where the top coat chipped off. I would be proud to own your car as it is! You do amazing work Jared!

It looks WAY better than before and I'm so happy you painted it to protect if from rust. When you said you were going to leave it un-painted, my first thought was rust. Now I can sleep at night knowing the metal is protected.
@tint6613 жыл бұрын
You have made me happy. I know I don't matter and have no say what you do with your car. By keeping the rust to a minimum, and painting it like you did was the right choice. It just looks better going down the road also. Good Job !!!
@cnmatl73 жыл бұрын
Let's face it Jared... from day one you were caught between a rock and a hard place. Damed if you do... damed if you don't. In my view, given the rust situation, you've simply made the next logical move to solve that issue... you've stopped the rust. As long as you can keep car watchers 300 feet away from the vehicle, folks will think it's showroom perfect. However, as they get closer, the truth will be known. It is what it is. Once again, I agree with you and your philosophy. When you're sitting in the drivers seat cruising down PCH at 60 mph, it feels like the perfect ride. That's what counts for you and that's all that's important! As we use to say in the 60's.... ""It's your thing... do what you want to do"! Looks great and keep up the good vibes!
@williamcalia24653 жыл бұрын
It was a smart move covering the bare metal. You really don't have choice. Rust is not forgiving. When the time is right and it makes economical sense you can restore it but for now it works. Happy Motoring!

I was initially surprised that you didn't use an airbrush but after seeing the result I think the brush did the trick without a lot of masking and hassel. You have an amazing set of skills. I think I would have gone to a replica build for my money. Still, watching you trim the ravelled rug pieces along the interior sides and the other areas where you saved the existing stuff remindes me of what Jay Leno and Jerry Sienfield emphasize. "it's only original once". Excellent job Jerod. .

Look at it this way in the 1940s or early 50s they probably would have done that to the Model T to either preserve or improve the look of the car . I think you made a good choice . I use boiled linseed oil on the bleached paint spots on my 50 Ford but that wouldn't work in this case .

I think it looks good. It makes it a "20 footer", looks good from 20 feet away. You get closer and see the rest of the story. I kind of like the idea of keeping it "as was" but clear coated, and feathering the edges, but this worked the out fine, and it's your choice, duh! Well done as always. Thanks, and Woof to Walter.
@Mikefngarage3 жыл бұрын
I would have done the same....Personally in the future I would not replace the dented panels. I would straighten them. yes it would be more work but that original metal is thicker than any replacement stuff. The replacement stuff is also not as straight as you might think. I did some early 911s back in the day and bought new fenders. NEVER AGAIN....more work than fixing what was there.

I am very like minded in your thoughts of preservation over restoration. I have a well worn but very original 1962 B coupe that as needed gets the touch up brush to prevent further degradation. I have salvaged old but original upholstery to sew into areas of mine that have faded and worn out. A friend of mine also has a very well kept 63 B but he is going the other route of restoration. What ever rubber etc. that comes off of his car that is still useable goes back on mine OR is saved for future use. To each their own I guess? Keep up the great work and fun videos please!

That is so much better. I understand you not wanting to put in “too” much money. I would use it to hone my metal working skills and see how close I could get it especially since things do not rust out there. Porsches are known as three year cars in Ohio. You could not pay it off before they would rust to nothing and are ready for junkyard.

Certainly one would want to stop the rust. With the purpose of not showing a cover-up repair, it looks okay. Yep, it's knotty, but if that's what you want, fine. I watched all your videos on the T restoration, and I like that work also. You have two reliable cars.

I like the paint touchup but you should have done all the areas which had no paint . The next problem i see is where the new paint meets the old , rust will form at the joins as moisture will get in and the old paint will start to flake off and still leave rust stains :-)

I think it looks better and it was sort of good that nature forced your hand to protect it from rust. I bet you do something more for the aesthetics before ten years passes. It's a super cool car that you brought back to life and needs one more push for body work. I think Jerry Seinfeld drives one around that is good but still imperfect. You are going to think about that a lot probably or at least I would. It could have scars but also have the crumbled parts addressed. Easy for me to say. Really great work and decisions you've made along the way. I've enjoyed being a passenger on the rid.

That looks very good. Although I do understand your motivation of not wanting to hide the car's history, if it were my car I would have touched up all spots on the car. Including those were the primer is visible, not bare metal. Is one layer of paint sufficient? Or would a layer of primer, followed by a layer of the touch up paint be better?
@marklangren31423 жыл бұрын
So you have a 50 50 paint job. Why are you hauling the liggage outside? I would put them on the back seats with the rest down. Did you get a tool kit with it, if not get a pulley wrench
@bstoryswett23023 жыл бұрын
Always a question in preservation and interpretation of the past. The story of this 356’s past mis-adventures remain evident. Don’t know whether the over-paint treatment provides more answers to those who encounter the car in-the-wild, but it will still be notable experience for them. Certainly assures a less maintenance intensive ownership future.
