Natalie plays a "Go Big or Go Home" style of play. Very impressive forehand power and depth coupled with an excellent net game. Would hate to be her opponent on a day when is totally "on" the whole time. Valiant effort by Winston to compete.

It's impossible to get into a rhythm against such an aggressive hitter who's trying to come to net as much as possible - very difficult to play against, I'm sure.

one more thing: she tries to hit too small targets, like she's aiming too close to the lines. if she'd correct that to targets with a bigger margin her score would appreciate it

I try to hit that down the line weak service return as much as I can. It's only ever gone in once with full power. What a shot though. You don't see tour players trying it too much. Not high enough success rate, I guess.

It's what great players do. A 10 UTR is going to capitalize on floaty slower serves like Winston's 2nd. Against a 4.5 it's a point-starter. Against a 5.5 it's cannon fodder.

Natalie is a big striker from the baseline. She hit a ton of serve return winners. If her game is that she's more of a serve and volley player and better at net than baseline, then her net skills must be insane. Would've loved to see her come up to net a lot more. Great match, thanks for posting this video!

A couple observations which echo other people's comments: 1) Winston's 2nd serve: Natalie attacked it and blasted forehands the entire match. The only points Winston won on his 2nd serve were when Natalie went for too much and missed the return. Since Winston's 2nd serve doesn't have enough on it to get to Natalie's backhand, he may have done better taking some off the first serve and getting a higher percentage in, ideally to her backhand side where she just slices it back. This strategy would have allowed Winston to start the point neutral instead of just praying that Natalie misses the return. 2) Matchup Issues: This was a tough one for Winston since he likes to stay at the baseline and grind. Since Natalie likes coming into net or bringing her opponent up to the net, her game highlighted some of Winston's weaknesses (ex: passing shots and volleying). I think Natalie won every single point that had a "cat and mouse" component to it.

Nice to see a slice backhand with full control. A lot of times slices can be wristy and have long/mechanical swings. Really nice when someone is able to rely on a quiet wrist and pure racquet head control to work the slice. Probably the same reason her volleys are very nice.

Wow Natalie has a great slice backhand and slice approach. Very Stefan Edberg like! It's definitely a lost art. Winston is solid but needs to develop a first serve as a weapon. Seems like he always just hits 2 second serves which is ok against 4.5 to 5.0 level, but then its feasting time for returners above that level.

Natalie has an awesome and aggressive service return and some very smart volleys and drop shots. Her serve obviously needs some more consistency and I think with a better shoulder/arm rotation, she could bring a lot of those “hit the tape” misses over the net. Winston has an elegant and high quality game too, if he could just reduce the number of unforced errors. All in all, it was an entertaining and fun match to watch. Thank you both! 👏👏

Interesting match-up of styles. Natalie’s first serve is a definite weak spot; toward the end of the set she began taking some pace off and focused on placement to get it in and get the point started (a wise move). Her court sense is pretty strong. She was hitting behind you effectively and without hesitation. Great ball control whether slicing the backhand or spanking forehand returns off second serves. Really nice instincts at the net, nice technique, great positioning. Great balance. If you had served REALLY big and put her on the defensive, moved it around the box, you would have controlled the center of the court better and it would have been closer. She kept you on the move fairly easily with returns and change-ups. Fun encounter to watch.

hey Winston, a long time fan here. Just want to say I enjoy watching this channel a lot! I think you are a much better player than when you started this channel. You have made great technical improvement on all your shots, except for your serve, and I think I know what's holding you back. I recommend trying this two change. 1)left arm and right arm reach trophy position together, this would eliminate the "drag" in your serve and reduce serve going out; 2)racket face during trophy position not facing back fence, which it is right now. racket face facing back fence should be a result of your body turning, not just your right arm overstretching. I think these two change should make your serve much more crisp, and with a better serve you will be a solid 5.0 player, which you are not that far from. Just my thoughts, might not work but i think worth a try.

I'd love to see her play when she was on her game. She was spraying too many shots and too many double faults. But what a great striker when she wasn't going for winners so much. And when her serve was consistent she had so much variety. I was really expecting a lot more net play from her intro. She really just played situational tennis, for the most part. But, man, she's really good and has all the strokes. She pounds everything deep. She made you stay on the baseline unless she wanted to reel you in. She's really good.

First serve seemed to be your only weapon against her, very tough game but well played. Given Natalie's play style, she would benefit a great deal by improving her serve, especially placement and consistency. It almost looks like she doesn't want to play baseline by hitting every shot big, if she had just slightly better serve, she could come to net a lot more easier and win more points at net. Just my 2 cents, great video as always.

Back in the day (1977), I was playing varsity High school tennis. I was a bit of a freak in that I hardly practiced but had a natural ability to serve and my serves reached nearly 120mph (with a head competition racquet). Unfortunately, the rest of my game wasn’t at that level and my natural laziness prevented me from reaching my potential. Something I regret. Anyway, I was at a group lesson at Tam Tennis Club in north IL burbs and a younger girl was training with her coach on a nearby court. I noticed her coach exchange some words with my HS coach. Her coach, Bob Marimba(sp?), signaled for me to come over. When I did he told the younger girl , “ if you return this kids serve, then you can return just about any serve you’ll face in competition.” Needless to say she quickly started returning everything I had. It was like hitting against a wall. I don’t think I won a volley. Lol I saw that young girl a few years later while watching the finals of Wimbledon. That younger girl was Andrea Yeager. That’s My brush with greatness!

Winston, your serve + 1 is a liability. You need to work on a bigger kick and MOSTLY better placement on your serve. In addition, you need to work on switching your grip immediately after the serve, finding where you want to stand (not chilling in no man's land) and get in the ready position for the first ball after the serve. SOO many points where you hit a good serve, and just are not ready for the next ball . And you have a lot strengths, but this is important because every point stars with serve + 1 and you gotta be able to hold serve. On the plus side, your inside out forehand is a beast
