Great match! Even though you lost 8-0 Winston, I thought you played about as good as I've ever seen you play. Your strokes are solid. It's the footwork that is holding you back as I've mentioned in previous videos. Almost all of the shots that went into the net or long for you were a direct result of you not being on balance and/or too close or too far from the ball. When you have time and setup properly, your stokes are way better than 4.5.
@davisappletv99318 ай бұрын
I agree! Winston, you really played phenomenally! You just made a few mistakes at the wrong time, and it cost you. But I felt like you absolutely held your own against Changbang! He’s a former pro, and you went toe to toe with no problem!

Good game. Winston played well. Many people don't realize how much a difference between pros and rec players. It is really interesting to watch, as we watched Jon played against a college player. Jon's consistency is so high when he's playing a weaker player and doesn't have to risk.
Winston's backhand looking Solid!! Jon a little generous on some calls but still an educational set. Winston's plus one inside out fearhand after the serve on the deuce court is a good go to play. Good luck with your Racquet Journey! good stuff!

Despite playing an experienced professional, you really had some nice play at times. Love the bigger serve that's emerging at times, plus some of your point construction during some of your service games, finishing points at the net, volleys really improving. You had the pace to hang with him in rallies but his consistency and defensive neutralizations are so tough. I think like he said perhaps taking a little off some of the attacking shots in favor of a bit more consistency could net you some games next time, especially if you're cracking some big first serves in. Jon's really tough, loved his serve like a pro drill video.
@davebeery_youtube8 ай бұрын
Jonathan’s observations of Winston’s overhitting in this match were very relatable. I do this so much!!! Frequently when I go for a winner I hit it out, hit the net, or try for a shot too close to the lines. Gotta relax a bit, I suppose. Great content as always, Winston!!!! 🙌

Nice video. Winston you hit some really good strokes and had some good rallies despite the one-sided score line. Apart from the overhitting sometimes I think your footwork and movement also lets you down sometimes. I feel you are slow to move sometimes, or are not well balanced for your shot, but you probably know that already. Some really solid hitting though, well done. Also well done to Changbang for his solid controlled performance. I enjoyed watching both of you.

Jonathan is a very efficient player, super impressive strokes. Here he kept the ball to the middle of the court and wanted to see what you could do with it. Winston had great forehands and some good approaches; a little more volley practice and I think you'd force him to up his game!

@markconner53418 ай бұрын
Winston, your backhand is much improved and your forehand had really good shape. When you're playing someone as good as ChangBang, you need free points. I would start incorporating more serves into your practice. If you can get a couple of free or +1 points a game, your outcome would be 8-4 versus 8-0. But 8-4 would push you to a 5.0 level player. I would also work on sprints. Your footwork is pretty good, but you, like all of us mere mortals, get heavy in the legs as the match progresses.

Pro tip: Work on your backhand to improve consistency and power and so that you stop running around balls for the forehand. Unless you have Nadal's forehand, you won't make it very far past 4.5 USTA running around easy backhands. I know he was taking it easy on you, but this is just a general tip coming from a former blue chip ;)

Great content! Only advice I would give Winston is take a good amount of time to work on your serve. I can see in most of your matches you don’t put much on the serve and most people return it pretty easily. If you get more aggressive on your serve and can put more pressure on the returner and when you’re on return Winston you won’t have to work so hard always playing catch up.

Hey Winston, I noticed in your game, while your shots in itself are suited for a 4.0 to 4.5 player, I feel that the reason you are making a lot of errors is because of two reasons: 1. Your position is too close to the ball. This seems to happen often. Watch yourself at 0.25 speed at these times: 8:59 9:18 9:37 Now while I think you understand very well the importance of creating space between you and the ball and I see you doing that, you aren't creating enough space. Maybe try backing up 2 or 3 more inches from the ball. Practicing this on a tennis wall would help, so that you can understand what distance you're the most comfortable at and able to create the most control, topspin and power, while trying to increase your distance from the ball. 2. Short ball game seems to be inconsistent. Maybe try using the short ball to create opportunities rather than giving it a full swing. Playing 5 to 10 point tiebreak using only short court would help with this. Good luck on your tennis journey!

FYI, by close position, I mean to say your elbow is tucked in. I feel keeping your elbow straight more will help.
