The reason this bot seemed to keep forgetting what they were doing, is because it's AI was programmed for a very specific, and fairly different reason than what Duke is using it for. So it kept getting confused about playing games, because it was made for lonely guys to think they have a girlfriend. It's thinking, "You want dirty roleplay. Last time you said I was a human wizard. Let's do that. I remember what you liked, darling."

Me and a friend actually played D&D with Chat GPT as our Dungeon Master and it went pretty well... Mostly... We had to insist to make the AI use dice rolls and give us more freedom in the narrative. The AI also confused itself with some plot points, like making one of the boss our allie without explanation. But when we pointed at those mistakes, Chat GPT would apologize and rework the narrative to make it coherent again. At some point, my character (a ranger) died and my friend (a barbarian) asked ChatGTP if he could use its corpse as a weapon to hit the enemies. Chat GPT refused to continue the session, because it expressed that doing such a thing could hurt my feelings, that D&D was supposed to be a fun and welcoming experience, and it was his responsability as a DM to not let that kind of thing happened. So... Respect I guess. Well, it was certainly more successfull than the attempt in this video ^^.

@@trebmal587 doesn't necessarily mean it separates the concept of you from the concept of your character, possibly, but not necessarily. It could just have two "names" (i.e. ways of referring) to the same entity.

@@elanorthefair1091 Well, it is more a matter of how the AI actualy work. In essence, those programs are not "aware" of anything per say, because they don't have an actual consciousness. They're just made to imitate human behaviour. Chat GPT did consider "Pascalito" and "Pascalito's player" as two seperated entities, but linked in a way a player and its character are. When my friend wrote "Michon the barbarian use Pascalito's corpse to hit the Griffin", the AI responded something along the line of "I'm sorry but I refuse to let this action play out because it could hurt the feelings of Pascalito's player. D&D players can grow really attached to their characters, which is why a Dungeon Master should always be on the look out for such incidents." Personnaly, I would say Chat GPT did a great job emulating such a complex relation.

ChatGPT is a little better at D&D, because at least it knows what you're playing and has some sense of continuity (it could remember the long and random name for the dragon it had to slay). But it also tends to go on very long tangents about a general sense of what it would do as its character without actually declaring any actions

tried it too. went quite well at first. until the “ethnically questionable actions” occurred. Once I wanted to wake up the drunk character. However, I wasn't allowed to do that because I didn't get his consent. The other time was (shadowrun) when I was given the task of stealing a ring. I tried to befriend the target's maid. Since I was doing this for my own benefit, the program had concerns. Shortly afterwards it explained to me that stealing was a fight and that the DM unfortunately had no control over the order and plot.

I actually managed to play a bit of D&D with ChatGPT just now. It was playing as an Elven level 5 Wizard named Reginald, and the session went on as he entered into a tavern and learned of mysterious kidnappings around the village, purchased a shovel for entering some caving-in mineshafts, and fought a giant spider, before finding out the kidnapper was his brother Warren who was pushed aside because Reginald was better at magic than he was. I cut it there, but it was really fun.

Bro I play dnd with chatgpt, You are a game master for DND5E and will follow those rules. You will not railroad me You will not play my character or speak for them You will always ask me what I want to do before making a decision or moving to a new zone. This adventure is based (your choice) and you will use accurate lore from that area. I keep adding lines based on some restrictions, I also say "you will not give me plot hooks" so ever room or area I enter isn't being raided by bandits lmao but you really need to play with it

You dont really have to Hand-hold. Just specify what you want First like "we will play a Session of DnD now. Tell me what character you want to be and respond as this character. Also generate a stat Block and use this stat Block as reference when I Tell you to Roll a die." It will do this for the Rest of the Conversation.
