The thing about X & Y that isn't talked about enough is how much they brought to the table for competitive battles. They made EV training a complete breeze, shiny hunting became easier with the help of horde battles and the shiny charm, not to mention breeding became a passive thing with literally just circling around Lumiose Tower until the eggs hatched. The 3 star restaurant battles were also a nice addition for training up your competitive mons and earning a whole whack of money. Also, Fairy types LOL
@randomstranger9306
@randomstranger9306 2 жыл бұрын
Game Freak has very much been trying to make competitive more accessible since Gen 6. Is Gen 7, while Super Training was removed, the Poke Pelago replaced it as an easier way to EV train, and Hyper Training was added to make it easier to get perfect IVs, even while retaining hidden power types. Then in Sword and Shield we got Poke Jobs replacing Poke Pelago, the retention of Hyper Training, and even mints to change a pokemon's nature. Combined with candies that make it incredibly easy to level up, almost no grinding at all is required to get competitively viable pokemon in Sword and Shield compared to previous games.

The pokemon you can encounter, exspecially around the 7. and 8. Gym, are pretty underwhelming in general. Atleast most of the Gym Leaders are easy since their teams are often really shit. So grinding is atleast a bit less of a trouble. Also there are not enough Jotho Pokemon in Jotho, let it be wild Pokemon, trainer Pokemon or even Gym Leaders. The Jotho Region relies too much on Kanto Pokemon. The Kanto postgame sounds really good at first, but it's quite empty which is the main problem with the Kanto Region in HGSS. Atleast the postgame is much better in HGSS than it was in GSC. For me the second Generation isn't like a "true" full Generation, due to many reasons. If the first Gen is 1.0, Gen 2 is more something like 1.5 instead of 2.0.
@tylersmith3533
@tylersmith3533 2 жыл бұрын
@@obambagaming1467 Massively agree with most of this. The lack of Johto pokemon on the Johto Gym Leader teams is always shocking to me. I feel like they wanted to use Gen "2" as a tack on to Gen 1, leaving Gen 1 as the definitive gen, which is why it relied so heavily on those pokemon, and even HGSS going back to Kanto for the post game. My favourite part about HGSS was going back to Kanto, and I think a lot of people have the same thing. I also believe that because that's the end game of it, people remember HGSS much more fondly because that's the last bit that they played.

@@obambagaming1467 Gen 2 still brought the most new mechanics to the series: two new types, breeding, shinies, hold items, friendship, the special split, day/night cycles, rebattles, battle facility, move tutors, and so many QoL improvements. So saying it's "Generation 1.5" is complete bullshit especially since seeing how Red & Blue have aged much more poorly compared to Gold and Silver. Gen 5 in comparison almost brought nothing of worth mechanically and even dropped features from Gen 4. Now that was one gen you could scrap and nothing would have changed to the series. I agree with most of this list except ultra sun and ultra moon I can understand sun and moon being the least favorite but it certainly added a lot more than X and Y did, given it was the new generation. With ultra adding more to it, making in my opinion, the better *"sun and moon experience"* , i feel like its not giving credit where credit is due. Regional pokemon (even though mostly kanto) mega evolutions, the surfing and dimension traveling mechanic, ash Greninja, and ultra necrozma, on top of being able to still play with every single pokemon up to that time, with no limitations? And we're already looking at more than sword and shield. With the downside being team rainbow rocket but hey at least we got a more interesting post game, and a battle tree where we could fight previous rivals and 2-3 champions WITH their battle themes! 👌🏾💙

I think SM/USUM are more for people who enjoy story and character in a Pokemon game. Its character arcs and dynamics are one of the best in the series, with how it mostly focuses on a dysfunctional family, against the backdrop of a sci-fi, interdimensional travel story (Lillie is genuinely one of my favorite characters in the entire franchise). Also the fact that said sci-fi spacey story is set in by far the most traditional and old-fashioned region is just a fun contrast. The trial system was a fresh take on the formula that added a feeling of distinct culture to the Alola region that none of the other regions quite have. Even if the trials themselves are kinda hit and miss, they show originality (not to mention each captain’s personality shines through how they structure their trial), and the Totem boss fights make up for it. For me personally, all that stuff way outshines things like Festival Plaza (I’ve never cared about online connectivity in my life lol) and Z-moves being lackluster. I just care about how well the game can invest me in its world and characters during a playthrough. That’s why gen 7 is one of my favorites, right up there with gen 5 and 3. But like I said, that’s for someone like me who enjoys story and character over mechanics. Different priorities lead to different opinions 🤷🏻‍♀ …Also, the Alola games have Team Skull in them. We can at least agree that Team Skull is awesome, right? 😆

USUM are low key one of the best games in the series, especially for challenge runs because they have a HUGE Pokedex with tons of options and are actually pretty difficult because they give so many trainers fully EV trained teams with good IVs and movesets. Sure, its super hand holding in the beginning and has way too many cutscenes, but especially if you do something else while playing, like watching KZbin, you can distract yourself during the constant talking and then the only major downside of the games are pretty much irrelevant.

Yes, I'm so happy to hear some appreciation for ORAS! I get that not getting some of the Emerald stuff was a letdown, but I loved how they remade and expanded upon the world and lore of the Pokémon games. Edit: No mention of how Gen 7 removed HMs? 😢

I love ORAS too, it was the first Pokémon game I played for real (I had already played some like Yellow and X, but I didn't understand that much about the game), it was the first one I completed the National Pokédex and it's the one I have the most hours played

ORAS is, in my opinion, the single best Pokemon game they've released. I genuinely played all the way through it non-stop on release, and it's held a special place in my heart ever since. Since then, I've never found another game that quite lit the same fire under me. I know a lot of people have a lot of opinions on Mega's, but it was the best of the mechanics that they've had since - Mega's > No mechanic > Frenzy > Z-Moves > Dynamax
@Tails97

@@tylersmith3533 I love Mega Evolution too. Z-Move is bland and I don't find Dynamax that interesting. Interesting tiers! Having played the series for over 20 years, when Sun and Moon released I thought they were some of the best games in the series. Likewise, I remember liking Black and White and B2W2 a lot while a lot of the commentary around the time they were released was the opposite, none of my friends were interested in them at all. I also really liked Sword and Shield despite everyone telling me I should hate them. It's funny how everyone's tastes differ and everyone's opinions are different. Some peoples favorites are my least favorite and vice versa, I think it's just important to remember that everyone's opinion is valid and we grow as a community by respecting others than trying to tear them down.

I felt like gen 7 as a whole were very well made. I think the vibe of the region was incredibly pretty, probably the best tropical region in pokemon. I see a lot of people disliking the trails, but I felt like they complimented the vibe of the region a lot better then gyms would have. Trails definitely would not be a mainstay, but changing up the formula for a game or two was definitely nice. It allowed game freak to play around with new ideas, which most likely lead to a lot of the mechanics Legends processed. The only real issues I can agree on with those games are the festival plaza and the hand holding. Festival plaza was definitely unneeded, especially considering they already had a perfectly fine online system in gen 6. The hand holding also was pretty bad towards the beginning of the game for sure, but it does get better towards the end of the second island. Other then that though, gen 7 brought regional variants, eliminated HMs, great starters, pretty region, likable characters, good story, fun post game; not sure what there is to hate about it.

It physically pained me when he said that XY was probably no-one's favorite Pokemon game of all time. And putting it right next to RBY??? Why?? How are they The thing about X and Y is that they actually added things that everyone just looks past because "ez game bad it trash ew megas beginning of the end eww" Bro, these games introduces 3D models, and while that's a mixed bag for many, it would have happened eventually, and they did as much as they could with the models in XY as they could for the first 3DS pokemon game, like Pokemon-Amie and the PR videos! The added Fairy type brought some much-needed balance to Dragon and Dark types, while also giving Steel and Poison more offensive uses! And while it may not be the general consensus, Mega evolutions are probably the best "gimmick" we've seen from the franchise since the beginning of the 3DS era. They actually had lore importance, and opened up the path to explain why remake games are possible, without rewriting the events of the original releases! They had the potential to balance weaker Pokemon to be usable, which we did see in Mawile and Sableye, but the idea was abandoned too soon. While it does have its faults, X and Y are a wonderful generation, with an amazing soundtrack, great lore implications (that, while not as immediately impactful like in gen 5, are more meaningful to the series as a whole), true character customization, and so much more. The sad part is, the games were actually meant to be so much more, but they got pared down to make it in time for the first-ever international release date. I look with anticipation for the day that their remakes are released, because then the Kalos region will get the treatment it deserves.

My Pokémon Tier List: S Tier: BW2, HGSS, Platinum (So much to do and extra content in these games even after the Post Game! My safe files are always 250+ hours, most stuff is completed and will have a full box with EV trained and a mix of LV100s and 50s!) A Tier: FRLG, Emerald, BW (I enjoy these games and have come back to play numerous times, more so FRLG & Emerald than BW! However, BW is such a nice game to play and with these games I tend to have a team of 6 fully trained!) B Tier: Legends, XY, ORAS, SWSH (+DLC), Crystal, BDSP (Legends has been a good game and I feel I need more time with it, XY felt like DP without Platinum, they definitely needed a 3rd version or a sequel series like BW2 but understandable with BW2 sales not enticing Game Freak, ORAS was missing such a big thing without the Battle Frontier for me, it's the reason Emerald has made me play it more, SWSH were good but not worth £80 haha, Crystal I enjoyed a lot but HGSS are what I play for Johto, BDSP is worst that Platinum but better than DP... although it's almost C-Tier for me?) C Tier: DP, RS, RBY, GS, SM, Let's Go (All have superior versions to play instead of these, except SM who's follow-up was just as bad LOL) D Tier: USUM (I can still play this game and would play this over SM but had so much more potential and felt wasted for what could have been! To me, it would be like playing Black and White again but the focus is about Kyreum, definitely needed BW2 treatment!) F Tier: Scarlett and Violet (JK!) 🤣🤣🤣

Johto and Kanto... hmmm... Grassy? Grassy routes and towns? Is that what the theme was there? At least Sinnoh has some running theme and thought behind it
