@@Vulpes_Shinbi to be honest, I don’t know. They just haven’t evolved with the new generation. I like both Ridge racer 6 and 7, but I think the nitros ruined the fun of finding that perfect drift and racing line. Now you had to find the balance of how much drift and how much speed nitros give you and where to launch them. And that’s fun, but kinda a different game. It seemed to have too much gimmick for the purist and not enough for the new comer. Maybe add a classic and modern mode so we have the old gameplay and newer one. It’s just a product of its time. I think they should just rerelease the PSP package every 10 years to keep it in circulation for people like me, and we good.

After buying nfs most wanted (2012) for like a dollar on a steam sale, I recently realized or remembered it was just a water downed Burnout paradise game, but I can definitely say it's damage models are way better than it should be for today's standard on Brand name car models. Plus, the game over all once you grew out of the (it's not as good as the original most wanted by a long shot) it's pretty fun for what it is. The best way I can describe it is "BURNOUT meets OVERWATCH" You race on 2 teams of 8 players (if I'm not mistaken) and there were 10 different chassis, each with different abilities, you didn't race to finish a lap faster than the other, but to beat the opponent team score, and the only way to earn score was to boost like in the BURNOUT series (at least in the main mode)

Somehow you’ve managed to escape playing all the need for speed games that were uniquely “NFS” feeling lol. After 2010 EA shuffled studios around, and Criterion went straight from Burnout to the Hot Pursuit reboot, alternating with Spightly Mad (studio that went on to make the PCARS sim games), and then they enlisted Ghost games to try and emulate the criterion feel. EA black box became the lead studio starting with Underground 1, and made all the following games up to Undercover in 2008, each their own somewhat unique sets of physics. No brake to drift, it was grippy, but the environment and drivetrain layouts had consequences depending on how and where you drove. The underground segment you could initiate and maintain drifts with a semblance of real-world throttle and steering control, and MW/Carbon had understeer and high speed consequences. I don’t think there’s been many (if any) arcade/simcade racing games in over 10 years that do anything other than the “brake to drift” type feel that burnout made a staple in the genre, you should really check out those NFS games from ~2000-2007.

I bought Dangerous Driving as soon as it popped up (I think on Epic) and assumed it was in early access, figuring that they'd add a soundtrack later in development. I guess they knew what a clunker they had on their hands and decided they'd never recoup the money spent on licensing any music (or getting any original music made). Such a shame that a promising B3 successor couldn't deliver on its potential.

I loved Split/Second's personality. Loved the little episode previews and would watch them over and over. Never got very far, maybe episode 4? The physics take a lot to get used to after a long break. RR: Unbounded is a lot of fun but i get why it didnt sell well. Its really nothing like a RR game and at least to me, feels like it lacks RR's identity. It's not uncommon for big publishes to slap a popular name on something just to sell it instead of making a new IP. Very common for BN to just abandon an IP anyway so its not surprising, Unbounded probably would've been the last RR game whether it sold well or not. I think its fair for people to say its not a RR game but I think its unfair to not even give it a chance. Especially now when it actively goes on sale for very cheap.

There is one game that's flying under the radar that's somewhat of a clone - It's called Trail Out. I'd honestly say it's a love letter to ALL racing games of this era including burnout, Need For Speed, Flat Out, Split Second and even other games/movies like GTA, Carmegeddon, Fast and Furious, Drive, etc... It's wild but I genuinely had such a blast with it. It's some of the most fun i've had during this awfully long period of absence with no racing games to fill Burnouts void since 2013 essentially, apart from Wreckfest.

Motorstorm apocalypse and split/second are absolutely twins separated at birth after my experiences with playing both. As much as I LOVE the Motorstorm series I can say that apocalypse is definitely the weakest of the all the games. It feels more heavier and slower than the prior games, as well as toned down just a bit in the vehicle destruction like you said. In the earlier games such as the first game and pacific rift vehicles had way more visible details in their damage models along with more snappy feeling controls and speed. The tracks even feel more smaller than usual with less unique routes, verticality and even settings since all the tracks in apocalypse take place in the same handful of places just with different times and layout. Overall the Motorstorm series is still FANTASTIC to this day and I wish sony would at least show some love to the series

22:00 Split Second's rubber-band AI is bad, but the game's concept requires other vehicles to always be ahead of the player to force them to use power plays. Still annoying/funny to drop a tower on six cars and see them all blow past you five seconds later though. Crash Time 5: Undercover has lots of Burnout-style crashes, and Trail Out is a pretty good FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage re-imagining. They're both on Steam.

I understand the frustration for making takedowns but not having a camera to see the wreckage of your destruction. 7:07-7:47 I figured, one of the reason this happened was because the open world gameplay was an online run and in order for the game to be enjoyable, the racing had to be "uninterrupted" in order to continue the race without the slo-mo camera. If there were, the camera would pan back to the player and its an instant reaction to steer away from a potential crash ahead, given you were blind to move away. The crash camera was mainly a self-effect, not affecting the racers or the race. So those 7 seconds of crash cam resets the player. Same rules applied when in a chase, the crash delay is in effect but it is not in a crash cam mode.

Ehh with the crash camera in most wanted, I always kinda hated the crash camera in burnout so it being gone at glance doesnt seem that big a deal to me, but its definitely taking something away to not have it there, like an inbetween would have been ideal, as I always hated how they would stop the game to either see you crash, or crash someone else out, like nevermind the stupid crash fetish, I'm trying to race here damn it so a picture in picture break away showing the crash in a corner so you can focus in on the race and glance down if theirs nothing coming at ya, or the crash on the rear view mirror would have been cool rahter than having it stop the race every 5 seconds for a crash taking place infront of you anyways and honestly till you explained it with the progression system, I didnt know that's how it worked, that's how little they told us with that game and I think outside of maybe 5 minutes of split second, it was one of the games where I actually did spend some time with it on this list but motorstorm is definitely one I would play if it wasnt a PS exclusive, stupid playstation, and it would probably run better as it probably IS having input lag issues like you bring up it seems to have with its controls as the PS3 back in the day was notorious for how hard it was to program, like if any game was to succeed on this list if it had just been cross platform, it was that one also I remember DSP playing it after the 2012 Sunami, which might have been why it kinda failed and they didnt make another one, it might have been one of those OH GOD OH MAN type deals for sony when that happened, and the music in it was pretty kick ass, like they had a custom version of like a remix of one of the songs from the 68 film Bullitt in it which was scored by Lalo Schfrin, the same guy who did Magnum Force, who's theme was used as the Snipers theme in TF2, so its not the first time that guys work has had an influence on the video gaming sphere
