It seems to me that part of the argument for a "delayed Bongcloud" structure for king safety in these positions for white, is that once blacks only minor piece is a DSB, the doubled pawn on f3 is actually part of the shelter instead of a target - the king protects its pawn cover and black doesn't have much that can easily attack it. The f2 pawn defends the e3 pawn on dark squares, creating what would be a light square weakness if there were a bishop or even knights to attack them, but there aren't! And so Ke2 is simply connecting rooks and maybe eventually preparing to take advantage of the g file to possibly target Black's castled king, instead of castling into an open file and a sad home.
@jedinxf7
@jedinxf7 2 жыл бұрын
(and the argument against is that black has a solid battery set up on the open c file already and at least at a glance, white doesn't obviously have the defensive resources to keep the 2nd rank from being penetrated and the queenside, at least, falling apart. Maybe preparing for this eventuality by swinging a rook over to the d file is an option but that's just sitting huddled and waiting for the attack. So I dunno, maybe the king safety here is still a little illusory)

Ke2 was my immediate desired move to play because if a black rook comes to c8 with my rooks disconnected and already having pressure on my knight made me want to connect my rooks immediately. That move also protects my queen and snuggles my king inside my pawns.

Nicely done. You played a solid accurate game making the most of the presented opportunities. I saw this game before the video and was shocked that a GM could uncork Na2 - and then drift into a position where her knight was fatally dominated by your bishop. I'm a rusty NM, but it would have been a struggle for me to overcome my instincts and play Na2. I would have burned a lot of time looking for an alternative. Had I played Na2 in that position our mutual acquaintance Dmitry G. would have scolded me for yet another "forbidden move". 🙄
@stvia
@stvia 2 жыл бұрын
Well, thing is when you're a GM playing an IM you really don't wanna draw. Which was the best she could aim for if she does not play Na2. So it's kinda understandable that she would play such a bad move.

Eric, I was wondering, Agadmator does recaps of famous games. Gotham does recaps of currents games and funny shtick, Botez does games in parks and streets, but no one is doing series on up and coming future super GMs. If you're career is going to be chess streaming, it might be advantageous to start covering the young players, so that when they get older, they remember you as the one who thumped them, the additional benefit being you are more familiar with their careers than other commentators. A once a week series on "Future Champions" on the the like.
