You can use aircraft or navy to chip away their artilleries Use fire on fire sometimes work well too Or simply use soviet union tactics (you know what I mean)

It heavily does since retreat is a huge part of this game, like retreating to concentrate before you advance so you can maximize your chances of destroying the enemy advance. And also because of artillery and trench warfare, it's good to give the opponent ground when you need to concentrate.
