Saw Hikaru today and he was so kind and patient with everyone, signing notes, taking pictures for a good 5+ minutes. Got a good pic as well. Thanks, Hikaru

I obviously don’t know Hikaru, but I bet he would be the first to say that he’s an edgy personality. With that said, he is one of the few that completely understands how top chess players need to change in order for the sport to resonate with a broader audience. You need personalities in the game… Not just a bunch of human computers.

Vishy creating an almost a fortress in the end by sacrificing his queen from a very vulnerable position was a defending masterpiece imo especially considering his age of 54 against a speed demon like Hikaru in a fast time control no increment match with black pieces, although he got ultimately flagged or got timed out. Vishy remains the underrated great of the game. Top 5 or at most top 7 of all time for sure.

@ChristopherBitti2 ай бұрын
@@kshitizgaur9181 Was Bobby Fischer? We both know the number of titles does not define the greatness of a player. The WC system was a mess during much of Kramnik and Anand's prime years, look into it. For much of that time period, there were two simultaneous World Championship cycles ongoing through different organizations. I mean, hell, Kramnik beat Kasparov in a WC they arranged and even has an all time winning record against him of 5 to 4, with a number of draws. Contrast that with Anand's record against Kasparov, which is horrendous. There's a reason Hikaru puts Kramnik in his top 5 despite all the things he's said about him.

Perhaps the next instalment of GCL will have increments. Not sure how much spectators are being entertained in the name of time scrambles and flagging. Would prefer to see civilized play instead of thumping clocks, illegal moves, and pieces falling off the board.

Curious to known why you didn't take the opportunity at 22:15 when you had fork on b3 with the knight forking the rook and queen.
@imtheworstl49502 ай бұрын
I think its cuz after knight b3, magnus could go queen e3 and he has some tactics with both the knights under attack and the weak pawn on e6. Another line is after knight b3, white could go queen c3, after knight takes rook, white can take the knight on e5, white has some threats with the e6 pawn aswell while keeping the other knight trapped in the corner

I was once in a 50 board WA versus OR match. Since I was a ringer on a low board and black I did not mind losing I played speculatively as black into a lost position against an 1800 player. Then wandering around the playing area I realized that the likely outcome would be decided by my lost game. I dug in, let my opponent get 2 rooks on the 7th, which transformed into a drawn endgame with best play. I found a swindle which won the game and the match, Then someone came up and angrily suggested I had not played the best move iin the endgame. sigh
