I used to clean out foreclosed homes. Came across one that the guest bathroom, which was right off the kitchen we couldn't get the toilet to do anything. Me being a handyman, I called a plumber. He got there and before doing anything he saw a stain pattern on the ground next to the toilet looked at me and said "this ain't gonna be pretty, or cheap". What he saw on the ground was outline of a cat's litter box. And the previous owner of the house would scoop the litter and put in the toilet and flush the toilet. She used the clay type kitty litter which had been sitting in these pipes now for about 6 months and had turned basically into cement.

Worst was when I got called for a plugged kitchen sink. I had replaced an old garbage disposal just before the guests came, so I was surprised to get the call. There was a plunger in the sink, water everywhere. These guys had been ramming stuff down the pipe. So I undo it. There was most of a tuna carcass, sprigs of lemongrass, and tons of rice. I was truly impressed at how complete the plug was. Like the best space age seal ever. I had to take the stuff outside and ram my fish tape through as I couldn’t shake the stuff out. I don’t know exactly how, but the fish bones/meat, rice, and rope like lemongrass was epic.

Not a plumber, but a mechanic at a stationary amusement park. We had a drain pump clogged underneath a Huss Machinefabrik Break-dance ride. The pump was meant to drain rain water from the pit under the ride. (Like a foundation) But someone got the bright idea to just use the fire hose to hose down the ride if someone puked. We noticed the clogged pump when the foundation was flooded, but much of the water evaporated during the summer, so it was clearly not rain water flooding the foundation. Edit, not a nice job dissembling the pump to get it back into working order when we knew what was clogging it.

I used to work for a trailer park who owned all their own plumbing and watering system. On one street we used to have roots that would encroach on the sewer line. About once a year we would have to run the hydrostatic powered industrial sized sewer snake. With the saw blade on the and after cutting through the roots that would fix the problem. The next spring we ran a bunch of root killer through the sewer system I know it's easy to identify which tree was causing the problem so we removed it. That was years ago, I don't know if the problem has returned but at the time we went for an additional 4 years without the problem coming back. The other clay sewer pipe at a different problem. There were several families on that street who enjoyed cooking with and frying things in lard - they would pour the access down the drain and that would cause a whole another set of problems - as the lard in the drain would solidify ... it is amazing how solidified lard in in clay pipe could create such an efficient blockage.

As a homeowner of a ranch with a basement built in 56', I highly suggest using hair strainers in bathtub and sinks. And basket style strainers in your kitchen sinks. My general rule for garbage disposals is that they are for the little bits that DO get past the basket strainer. My wife hates it, but I remind her of the time she stopped it all up when she tried to garbage dispose of half the burnt broccoli cheese and rice casserole. I did notice that there was some build up of sediment when the whole charcoal in soap fad was a thing with the ladies, might be a future video to look into. The only problems I tend to have are roots, but that is to be expected, as the trees were planted in 56' when the house was built. Will probably pony up and replace the old cast iron pipe eventually. Maybe some more content, show us how effective root killer is. Thanks!

When I pulled the trap I told the tenants it is better to throw their ground beef and turkey away instead of putting it down the disposal. First time I'd ever heard of ground ostrich meat. Also at an apartment I had to pull a toilet because it wasn't flushing right. I ended up pulling a pair of eyeglasses out that were stuck in the trap. The tenant didn't wear eyeglasses, nor did she know anyone who did. She had lived in this apartment for 5 years.

Hypothetically, if someone were to pour orbeez down the drain like this in this specific situation if you just pointed something like a hair dryer down the drain on a cool setting and just got a bunch of airflow going through do you think that could resolve the problem by drying out the orbeez?

Orbeez will transfer water between each other when touching (put a full size orbee next to one that is partially dry and the large one will shrink as the smaller one absorbs water). You would be drying the orbeez that were getting air directly from the hair dryer, but they would continue to hydrate from the beads beneath them. I've put orbeez where a regular desk fan could blow on them and it definitely dries them out faster so a hair dryer should work but it's going to take an eternity to affect the ones in the pipe.

Since they didn't dry, I figured the next step would have been to use a hair dryer on the drain to see if it helped.

1:17 that kinda reminds me of the krusty crab training video when they show the crusty crab music montage.

I'm not a plumber, but I did have to replace a lead drum trap under my tub due to my wife's hair clogging it. When replacing it, a previous owner had just stuck the tub down piece into the top of the trap without a fitting, it was just sitting in the top. When the trap clogged, it overflowed out the top of the drum trap and into the crawlspace. I ended up cutting it out and replacing it with a proper trap.
