I'm curious - would your plunger do the job? It's well known in dyi etc, that a gentle continuous force will move things, and that trying to just "smash it" will result in bad things. With a plunger, and a good seal, you could up the pressure slowly - with this thing, not so much.

So I was always told by my parents to NEVER pour grease down the drain. It clogs it up. But now I started to catch my husband doing exactly that, so I was curious so see if you were to do a video on it? There's probably other videos online about it but I'd love to see your take on it! Just started to watch these videos and you've successfully made plumbing sound fun.

Friend of mine bought a house from an elderly couple. After about 3 weeks living there, he noticed his kitchen sink would drain slowly, within a week it clogged completely. So he decided to stick Drano Max Gel down in the sink and it didn't fix a thing. Told him I'd come by and take a look for him. He had a 13ft clog of Grease, Pasta, Hair, Drano, and smell. God knows what else. I ended up redoing all of his plumbing to the house because it was a nightmare underneath his house.

About a month ago I bought one of these hero tools to help my folks unclog the kitchen sink. I never could get the damn thing to work as advertised. It kept back blasting me with surface ick, so I decided to take apart the plumbing. Unfortunately this did not happen because the instant hot water system under the sink was awkwardly installed and partially obstructed the pee trap. I'm not a plumber and a barely qualify for handy man. I didn't have the technical know how to even want to try and uninstall and then reinstall that system just to get to a pee trap. After forcing my folks to endure my, rather colorful I might add, tirade of frustration I ended up jury rigging a thin steel pipe I found in my dad's tool chest to his shop vac with gorilla tape. Set the vac to blast and got to fracking the kitchen sink. Alternating between blow and suck on the vac I would dislodge clumps then suck them out. This worked rather well and I removed the clog in 15-20 minutes. I can see the hero working on minor clogs but the back blast sucks. Its awkward to use and if you don't get the seal on the drain perfect you'll get all that ick lingering round the drain on you. Honestly the shop vac was easier to use.
@xy-ow7hw
@xy-ow7hw 3 жыл бұрын
Pressure will take the easiest way to escape. If you just have a minor clog, which will move easily, there should be no back blast. On the other hand: If you are clogging your pipe system that often, that you often need such products, you should evaluate your behavior in pouring anything into the sink. Or flush the system correctly afterwards, that it won´t clog up.

What’s cool about any tool using compressed air to clear a clog in a pipe is the fact it’s using the water’s hydraulic force to clear the clog. Because water can’t compress it will push anything it can out it’s way, but the down side is if it comes in contact with something that won’t move you’ll create a water hammer and likely bust the pipe.

@Deon Denis , most plumbers use PEX now because copper has gotten too expensive. PEX is also installed much faster. What took days to do in the past, now takes hours because of PEX. You'll see some old skool plumbers who still use copper, but it's not as common as it use to be. Some states still require copper in commercial/industrial settings.

@@lilkittygirl if there's a seal, then how are a bunch of orbees flying out of the sink
@lilkittygirl
@lilkittygirl 3 жыл бұрын
@@darkgtprince Well since you're too dumb to understand simple concepts, let me help. There is a seal made when applying the device. Water DOES NOT compress, so the pressure from the device needs to go somewhere. The area between the device and the top orbeez is where the gas has area to compress to stabilize the pressure. If the pressure exceeds the devices capabilities, two things can happen. One, the orbeez gets pushed down or the deal of the device breaches and the pressure escapes. So whatever is holding the strongest amount of force is going to maintain itself. In this case, the seal was weaker than the orbeez at holding the pressure. Thus the seal broke and it splashed everywhere. Now go back to grade 6 and get an education about basic physics concepts. This isn't complicated.

Not sure about orbeez, but as far as genuine kitchen sink clogs goes, last year, my sink was not draining, and the dishwasher was backing up into the sink. Got a similar product to this from supermarket after taking apart all accessible pipes revealed no immediate blockages, and me not having the funds to pay a plumber to dig deep into the walls to find the blockage, and it cleared it up within two shots. It was amazing. Maybe your issue with the orbeez was the sheer pressure created within the pipes across the entire diameter due to the amount of orbeez used? Had you used just enough orbeez to just loosely fill the U-bend (similar to a genuine kitchen blockage), it might have had a shot 😉 Instructions are very important: The one I had instructed you to fill the sink to the top of the headpiece, and to hold a wet towel against the overflow or garbage disposal if you have it. Basically to stop the jets of air going the wrong direction. Didn't even need an adapter to create a seal either.

I’m not a plumber, but I just did a job under my sink. I replaced the Kitchen sink hose plastic/metal mesh hose that extends outward on faucet. I can tell you this, it’s no easy task. I've used a very similar product called "one second plumber" when I used to work in maintenance at a hotel I've found it works well on a minor clog but stuff backing up and spraying you happens often and if its something moderate to really bad best to call a plumber and get it cleaned out properly.

WAY BACK IN 1964 my father told me this about Liquid drain cleaners “ Son you could sell colored water for $10 a gallon and guarantee it to unstop drains or your money back , only half the buyers would fool with the the refund and you’d still make $5 a gallon for water “.( $5 in 1964 was considered a good hourly wage) I wonder if this canned product offers money back guarantee.

One way to clear Orbeex blockages in put a couple of kilos of table salt down the drain with a little hot water. The salt desiccates the Orbeez and makes them shrink so they can be flushed out.

I know this is old now, but I was looking at one of your other videos and saw this one and had to watch. One thing I was thinking of in your test here is that the As Seen On TV demonstration does indeed show air bubbles "blowing back" like you had, but they deliberately had their sink with 3-4" of water in the bottom. I believe this pressure of the water above the device would help make the seal better and may keep more of the force directed down the pipe. That, or you would blow way more water in your face. Anyway, just thought Id mention it.

Mate, this is a damn clever video. This little artist thoroughly enjoyed it! Maybe you could try what happens if you try to wash oil point down the drain, would the oil in oil paint mess things up? Also, my guess would be that Orbeez have a slightly rubberish texture, I've never played with Orbeez so I wouldn't know, but my guess is the orbeeze expand, plus the rubberish friction would mean that product would stand little chance, but probably would work for something like hair. and basic things. Nice video mate, and kudos to the editor :) loving the style.

Well, Roger Wakefield. I believe that you are right in every aspect. So I think that Plumber's Hero is actually more dangerous than it is helpful by a long shot. What you described that it is dangerous for people to take said item and spray a pressurized can into a drain to unclog the Sink is almost idiotic. Also that it doesn't work as its intended and As Seen on TV some of the products they produce are just scams that they want to make a quick buck. Now I am not a professional Plumber, Nor that I have the skills to be a Plumber. But I think that a plunger would be much more useful in a situation like this... Manually shaking up and down to unclog what ever is preventing the sink from flowing down, Is far safer than this idiotic product.

This is a simple matter of physics. When pressure is applied to a point, it travels through the weakest medium. The only way for this to unclog something is for it to have more structural integrity than the pipes themself. Even then, it would likely bust the pipes.

The only thing I've ever found that works for clogs is this long aluminum coil that you stretch out and keep pushing down the drain and then use the main piece to spin it around. Sorry I'm not the handiest person, so not sure what the name was, but it's saved me from getting a plumber on 3 different occasions. I'm sure people that work on this stuff on a regular basis know what I'm talking about.

In the TV demo, they've got a few inches of water in the sink...would that be enough downward pressure to keep the compressed air from going upwards and focused down into the pipe?
