Hey everyone in this video we successfully put a 440cc 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine from a arctic cat on a homemade motorcycle I built awhile ago! the thing definitely needs a carburetor tune-up until she can really rip! If you like this project be sure to check out my channel for even more cool stuff such as motorized bikes, go karts, gas scooters, minibikes, ATV's and of course motorcycles!
Thanks for watching,
Oliver Motorized

Yeah you REALLY need a proper exhaust on a 2-stroke engine. Check out Colin Furze's channel for an how-to on making these using a pressure washer :) ----> Pretty much welding two flat and thin plates together at the edges and expand it with high pressure water ! Nice project :) Exemple : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHTWmGimhs6gjas

Lol...back pressure. Tell that to ALL the guys running open headers on their HIGHLY tuned drag cars. Whadda they know other than going stright? 🤣 2 strokes need a saxaphone aka tuned pipe or expansion chamber to rebound the pulses that spit unburned fuel out back into the exhaust port.. Its intrinsic to the design of having no valves.

aksu neither two strokes or four strokes require back pressure. Stop perpetuating myths lol. The motor is running fine, it sounds like it was tuned for one forsure, but that can all be fixed with carb work. The expansion chamber harnesses exhaust pulses and sound waves, nothing to do with bAcK pReSsUrE.
@SHSPVR
@SHSPVR 5 жыл бұрын
Well No but it dose take way the power band keep mind that many of older 50's thru 80's only had straight exhaust but plug end cap with smaller size like 1/2" to 1" pipe output should help be able to gain some that back with out being a crazy motor
@charlesgunzelman3323
@charlesgunzelman3323 5 жыл бұрын
@@SHSPVR none of that made sense. This is a 2 stroke engine, the expansion chamber cones reflect and focus sound waves in the exhaust back towards the cylinder to keep the fuel/air mixture from escaping into the exhaust at certain RPM and being wasted. That's why 2 stroke dirt bikes and quads seemingly take off like a rocket when you reach a certain RPM and "get on the pipe". Power valves or exhaust valves in the cylinder can modify this behavior. The cones in an expansion chamber are tuned to a particular cylinder because of the "port timing". I quoted key words for you to google.

Fun Fact - I owned an 1980 Artic Cat Panther. The thing was an absolute MONSTER for being 22 yrs old. It ran perfect! Bought it for $600 in 2002 and sold for $600 in 2006. Old and slower than the newer sleds (every other sled that is haha), but an absolutely reliable machine! Large times were had with that snowmobile :) Also I'd recommend some safety squints! Just lookin out for ya. Cheers-

Everybody telling him that the engine wont run without the expansion chamber lol. Youre right and wrong. They obviously make a great improvement if made and tuned for the engine, but the original way two strokes were piped was a straight pipe, a really long one that was cut down little by little untill the engine ran best. So yes, the expansion chamber would help give back some of that great two stroke SKKKRT, but it is not 100% needed.
