We drove from Camp Lejeune, NC to Indiana, to his home, to celebrate. That was our honeymoon. We just celebrated 30yrs this past 8th of April. Total cost, maybe $50, including gas and snacks.

I won't shed a tear for her. Its a fraction of their wealth and they can get out of debt tomorrow by liquidating assets within the month. This wedding/debt isn't smart but its less than 1/10th of their net worth. It may seem big but you have to put it into context to what they have. A millionaire isn't going to have a $1000 wedding, 100k seems reasonable if they are willing.

Their income would justify a $10-20k wedding, which is not extravagant with modern prices. It's about what you need to have all of the traditional parts of a wedding present if you don't have friends/family who can save you money on some of the services (dj, cake, etc.).

No charge for the venue, they gave me flowers and the pastor not only married us for $50 but took our photos. He knows all things Connecticut and got us on a ferry to a smaller part of town where we also had an incredible meal and ice cream at a creamery for FREE all because they engaged us in conversation and found out it was our wedding day. It was magical and low cost all because we made a decision to have it this way and did the research.
