So happy for you mate. I was studying for my finances degree and i had to serve 6 months in the military (its mandatory here in greece) . Soon i'll go full time photography and videography. Im growing my photography channel in order to have some passive income and maybe grow it later for it to become my main source of income. Its small right now but the community of 3k people i have gathered is something so hearthwarming and makes everything worth it

Hi Anthony, Wow, the synchronicity of how the universe works is crazy. I been dabbling in photography since I was a kid. I would take my parents Polaroid camera and play with lighting and stuff, then get yelled at for using all the film in it. I kept taking pics, going from nature to some portrait work. Upgrading my camera and lenses when I could. Then Covid hit and I lost my creative spark. Lately I been feeling the urge to pull out the camera and start up again, but where do I start? Just today I quit college because it was not my cup of tea. I already have one degree so its not like its the end of the world. Then 5 minutes later I stumbled across your KZbin channel. A friend and I, have recently decided we are pulling the trigger on a photography business/content creation, and are giving ourselves a 2 year timeline to get it up to a fulltime job for us so we can quit our regular jobs. Money is of course one of the major things holding us back as im sure it is for most people. Slowly but surely we'll push through that, cant wait to see where we end up!

What an amazing story, and both motivating and relatable! The reason I ended up doing in photography full time was during covid (I moved across Canada/went to remote work to our ON office for a mountain bike company I loved)....anyways they wanted me back in the physical office which was 2.5hrs away and I said no thanks. Then got fired. Instead of picking up another full time job I just thought why not give photography a go since I'm doing it anyways! Not saying it's been easy at all becoming a business owner and learning all the ins and outs as you mentioned but I'm certainly glad looking back on the last 1.5 years all the experiences and people I've met along the way that I just went for it. So cool to hear your journey and where you've ended up at this point in time and the teamwork and friendships that have helped collectively push everyone forward and stay motivated!

As for whats holding me back first things first get my Canadian PR so I have to work at least a year before I can do my own thing. In mean time just have to grind out KZbin and getting clients for weekends. At leas current job can help fund this as it progresses.

The main thing holding me back (with careers in general) is confidence. I always second guess myself and end up not pursuing things in the end. The second thing is, I listen to toxic people too much (this is changing very quickly as I am tired of it) and that compounds #1. The last thing is money. Having a small business that I recently decided to shut down, I have learned a lot of what not to do's, and it is frustrating moving forward with all this in mind. But the one thing that is making sense for me at this moment is the photography industry and it is a complete 180 from my skillset but I have never had more clarity than I have now. This video is very inspiring, and I did see it at the right moment. I need to find that community you spoke of to build a support team. KZbin videos like this act as my support team and education in one (as silly as that sounds) so thank you for committing not only for yourself, but for others as well. FWIW

You and me both, finding that community seems like an uphill battle where I live, most my friends I've had most my life but all are invested in the same things of drinking, partying and not really doing much outside their 9-5 life. I want time and I want to spend more time with the people close to me. I've shut down my own small marketing agency with a transition into photo/video and taking a lot of the same things that small business taught me. But confidence is huge and the mountain seems harder and harder to climb as more and more people take this leap. Here's hoping you reach the mountain!

I have created using Davinci (talk about a learning curve!), but I am weak in the areas of social media in general.

Great video, glad you touched on quitting with some sort of plan or financial savings. As someone who feels like I want to pull the trigger, it's incredibly hard when you have some savings but still look have two little dependants in your day-to-day life. Still, the goal is there to learn and become better at all of this throughout this year but finding time, that support group, and generating side income has been tough. Still, this video was a big help in knowing it can be done. Thanks!

Definitely ready to quit - it takes some planning and I feel like there’s no absolutely perfect time but you just gotta take a leap of faith and create your own reality. The community that you surround yourself with also plays a huge impact - this is a big reason I want to quit because I need the creative freedom and ability to travel or explore whatever I want to.

You mention the sunken cost fallacy. Ive been a long time chauffeur but one that gets all his work by suncontracting. I found myself in a position that when work doesn't come, Id double down and just spend more time on the road. Being a 24/7/365 business, trying to build my own client list was not something I would entertain. Which is why I would get in my car and just hustle. The pandemic was a big reset. Also, needing a new camera that I could use as a webcam(M50) rekindled my joy of photography. So I got out my 6D and took the M50 along with it and really started learning. Im not doing photography professionally, but I'm trying to hone my skills. I made a vow to never work like I had to the few years leading up to 2020. Videos like this are what inspire others to think for themselves and make the jump. Im about to turn 50. Its not too late...

I'm a mechanical engineer by schooling, but the seed was planted for videography in college when i made a crowdfunding video for one of our engineering teams I was on. Worked an job for 4 months out of school, then got another job and worked it for 2 years, buying my first camera, starting my video career. Now I'm a wedding filmmaker starting to get into the $5k+ market and only going up. I also have a KZbin channel, and its helped me practice storytelling. Making videos is a lit like the enfineering process, except unlike a design engineering job, I can be part of the entire process and have something come to fruition in days rather than years.

I want to be a full time content creator. Work on things that I need to improve on and work on things that are new. I need that freedom to express my creativity through the content. I might not be the best out there today, rather want to be a better Me, tomorrow. But, I'm working in corporate, doing the same thing again and again everyday and getting paid less. Same as your friend, I wanted to save, so that I can sustain without paycheck for a year or so. But, damn the bills. I got serious amounts of bills to pay and hell lot of responsibilities. That's my fear. A month without a paycheck can completely turn my life upside down. I might not be able to create content either. But between these thoughts and hustling for paychecks, I'm trying to put out the little content that I can. I'm trying to balance both my corporate day job as well as creating content hoping that one day I can quit the corporate to make my content creation a full time.

I quit my full time job July 2022 due to an injury and I was so depressed because I was a full time videographer and I was so scared I spent all these years pouring so much blood sweat and tears into a career that I may never be able to do again because of one injury. I was so lost for months but as time went on and I slowly recovered I started picking up myself and my skills. I did think about returning back to the 9-5 world because I was hoping for financial stability but I was willing to sacrifice that for more time to improve my craft. Now I’m a full time freelance videographer earning double what I was earning in my 9-5 job and I’m launching my very own creative agency end of summer. This is something that I had been planning for over 2 years, it still feels like a dream that I’ve come this far. Moral of the story is don’t give up and trust your intuition; just do what makes you happy ❤

This is a feeling a lot of people get when they don't go to work and just enjoy having time to do the things they like to do. This is how wealthy people live all the time. Great isn't it? Want to sleep in a little bit because you stayed up late having fun? Awesome, love it. Before when I was working I had to get up, go to work, and be tired all day. Now I just sleep in and catch up on my sleep. This is awesome, I should have done this years ago. What was I thinking by going to work everyday and having no time for myself? Ohh, now I remember, I need money to pay my bills and support my family. My kids need things, I need healthcare, I need a car,, and a place for my family to live. yikes. Ahh, it's all coming back now. :). Good luck with your journey my friend, I hope you make it sir, and enjoy the time off while it lasts.

For me, it's about kids. I'm almost 29 and I have 3 kids, 6 y.o. oldest so I cannot save enough to be safe. But on the other hand, recently, I really want to brake this chain of "unhappy, but in comfort zone" mind set and show my kids they can live life fully, chasing their dreams.
