Honestly, quitting your job to work on your first ever game is a move that I wouldn't recommend. Especially since, what the hell are you gonna do after? The game industry is suffering. Real game designers get paid dog shit for very long hours and a lot of stress. Not to mention that out of all indie games, very, very few get any sort of commercial success. I'm not saying it won't work, this game may be a success. But what about the game after this one? He's gonna need money again soon. At least he has the experience and education of his previous employment to fall back on, but that opening line can be potentially damaging to people less fortunate. All I can say is, yeah follow your dreams, but plan ahead. Best of luck to him

Hey Ponty, Just leaving this comment to say thank you. A year ago 'roughly' around now. I watched this video, I worked at a Internet company, slowly climbing ladders the works of a normal company job. after hearing many people talk about their prior lives before diving in and then hearing your own story, i decided to jump ship on my crappy internet company job, this year was incredibly hard but there was no moving forward in the comfort zone. Even though I lost my dog, all money and had to take up so many random part time jobs and side gigs I could find to stay afloat I finally managed to get a job in the video game industry, a thing I have wanted to do since I was a child, In my city they are pretty damn rare and I wanted to say thanks, without your motivation I doubt i would have jumped ship on that internet job a year ago, and even though it has been one of the most uncomfortable, damn hard and punishing years, a year later I finally am a video game artist that I can say proudly. Thanks for the push Ponty! your awesome.

Real fan here! I love all of your videos. They are highly addictive, and now I understand why, you worked with: MOVIES! Great moral lesson too, I agree with what you said about the comfort zone, the purest truth! It is the opposite of progress, evolution and almost always distances you from your dreams. Regarding the lives, it might be nice to open a Twitch or here on KZbin to chat live with the followers and produce a little bit, but I agree that it can be a little tedious and I wouldn't be engaging for a long time, maybe a test can speak better? Much success in this new journey. I'm sure you will achieve even more success and satisfaction!

This video has completely changed me. The part about being in the comfort zone hit me hard because I finally realized that was exactly what I was doing. I never even bothered applying to other jobs because I've had something really convenient and cozy, but after hearing you I suddenly realized that this is not even what I really want to do. I've just been doing it because it's simple and stable. I've had lots of dreams for projects I've wanted to do on my own and more complex jobs to transition into, but this comfort has made me lazy. I've had lots of free time to work on them too, but I never did because I thought "why even bother trying to do something else when I have this comfortable job where I don't have to change or try to learn something new." This doesn't mean I'm going to quit, and I don't think you have to quit to do this (although I have mad respect for people like you who do), but this video has made me realize that I actually need to start striving for more. My desires for exploring new areas have arrived, and I feel like I'm back in the discomfort zone. I no longer feel satisfied with what I have and I've started to work hard every day after my job at 5, and eventually I know I'll be able to transition to a position I really want, or even better, start my own successful venture. Thank you for making this video!

Hey man! Congrats on making the leap! While I just found your channel, I can tell that I will greatly enjoy it! I have been in that same Comfort Zone scenario many times myself and each time I took the uncomfortable choice and it has worked out. My KZbin channel is also my latest attempt at this, so I can totally relate. (With one of my previous jobs working for Epic Games actually!) On the gamedev streaming note, I have found many gamedev/3d modeling streams very interesting, and it helps build your community and anticipation towards the final product.. Look at it this way, if you are going to be at your PC anyways, it requires minimal additional effort. Best of luck on your project....its looking pretty slick! Please reach out and let me know if I can help in any way! (I have a varied skillset, among which is 3d modeling, 3d printing (figures of your characters would be pretty slick!) and livestreaming)
