The best part is how they integrate some of the funny stuff in America to this. Like that Shriner cult out of Tampa is literally just the Shriner Masonic Lodge that first started in Tampa in 1870, and the reclamation of Toledo by Michigan just riffing off the longest running sports rivalry in the United States between the University of Michigan and the University of Ohio.

Actual, the Toledo War was in fact an armed conflict between the new State of Ohio and the not yet a state territory of Michigan. The exact location of the border was unconfirmed, and both sides claimed that the valuable port should be theirs. Tensions escalated and something like 2 dozen guys on each side shot at each other. At that point the national government got off their ass and gave it to Ohio cause they were the one with the congressmen to say something. So the rivalry goes all the way back. And apparently the university rivalries is one-sided. Ohio thinks Michigan is their greatest rival, but Michigan thinks the other Michigan university is their main rival.

I love the reference to the Great Toledo War. Yes, this was a real thing and it's why Ohio and Michigan are rivals. The short of it is there was a mishap when drawing the Michigan/Ohio border when forming the states, and Ohio claimed that Toledo be given back to Ohio, even stopping Michigan from becoming a state until they gave it back. To mend this issue, Michigan was given the panhandle, which all was supposed to be Wisconsin. The Ohioans mockingly called the Michiganders wolverines during this war, but the people from Michigan took the name with pride, with the wolverine becoming part of the state seal and the official mascot of Michigan University. Go Buckeyes!
