Loved the video! Great editing and however sad…. I loved the little intrusion of present Macy to correct “past Macy” on her thoughts about not having an issue running with a bad ankle.

I think it can definitely come off as sad but it's not! I got a great send off to that part of my life. I can still do it occasionally, I just can't run consistently!

@@MacySavannah I am glad to hear you have such a positive outlook on it! It is great that you can still have the occasional run and that, at the same time, you are making such amazing progress in your weightlifting/strechting etc. I am excited to see what progress you will make over the upcoming years!

Love this video and I can relate to needing that closure to say goodbye to your running career. I was an avid runner, was running half and full marathons and training for my first ultra, and in a freak accident I tore both of my quads and had to relearn how to walk again. Surgeon basically told me running was not going to happen again for me, letting go of running has been so difficult. I know it’s my new reality and I need to come to grips with it. This video has helped me realize that it’s ok to let go. Great video, excited for you and your fitness journey.

I've personally dealt with ankle/foot instability my whole life. I've also had issues with rolling my ankle and having my arches "partially collapse." I'm not sure if you've looked into this, but I started wearing barefoot shoes and running with barefoot shoes, or actually barefoot. There was an adjustment period where my toe muscles would get sore... didn't think that was possible. But here I am, nearly a year later, and my feet and ankles are so much stronger! I don't worry about my ankle joints shifting with each step when I run, and playing sports like tennis have gotten much easier from a fitness perspective. Again, I don't know if you looked into this as a potential solution to your ankle issues, but hopefully you do some research and consider it. Thank you so much for sharing your real-life struggles, this was a really uplifting story about ending a chapter of your life and starting a new one. Your video quality has gotten so much better since the beginning, too!

Going through something similar but at the beginning of knee and hip repair. I'm 53 and when I was in my 20's was a beast both cardio and weights. I want to get back in shape but have tortured my body to the point I need things repaired/replaced. Working on getting that proper mindset. Thanks for a good way at looking at it.

Great work on this challenge. It is always a great opportunity to push yourself and it is good to see that you have found some sort of closure. I've been hitting a plateau in my weight loss journey due to some challenges in the household and the simple fact that I haven't been able to watch my nutrition as much as I was in the beginning. I've been hitting the gym and working with a trainer at my gym. Kudos for sharing both the good and the bad regarding this video.

This is such a great video! The commentary and editing really is so good on this one! And I can totally relate - I was competing in snowboarding in my early 20s and really starting to get good and placing on podiums - things were looking really solid for my trajectory -- and then i injured my knee pretty bad. I continued to ride on it for 4 years, got knee surgery, but it wasn't ever the same and I had to baby it. Saying goodbye to a life in a sport you worked so hard at is sooo so difficult! This last winter I went on a 3 week trip and went snowboarding almost everyday, after I worked harder than I ever had with a physical therapist to build up my knee strength and stability. While I wasn't doing tricks or big jumps or anything, I completed the trip with very little knee pain and had a lot of fun - and that is going to be enough for me now :) At 32 of course I think about what could have been all the time, had I not gotten injured - but life has different things in store now and I'm happy to be where I'm at with new passions like gardening and sailing

I miss being able to run i can barely even jump any more after having my back surgery last year. The second i get that hard impact from my right foot hitting the ground it just sends my entire right leg dead, its like someone just cut all the nerves and muscles in my leg for about half a second and the leg just gives out. Im glad to see you were finaly able to run again for a short period and were able to work through some of your feelings about not being able to run long term. Just take your time and enjoy what you can do currently and you should be able to keep running for short periods. Even if your ankle is "fully healed" it will never be the same or quite as strong as it once was, you would hate to end up with more long lasting damage. Such a great sister, advertising your brother to all the single ladies out there lol. I hope everything keeps going well for you.

@@MacySavannah i have talked to my doc about it. It's a rare side effect of my back issues due to nerve damage, Paralysis is a very rare but real risk with disk herniation and degenerative disk. By the time I had my back surgery I could only walk for 3 hours a day due to the pain, and I have an extremity high pain tolerance. 2 examples of my pain tolerance, I have impaled my arm and not felt it, And when I was in high school I ripped a tendon out of my right ring finger and didn't notice for 2 weeks other than the fact that I could bend the finger. When you consider the damage that was being done to the nerves in my back in order to cause that level of pain... I'm lucky not being able to run is the only thing that I have to deal with.

It’s a big pitfall for former competitive runners to start again. They go way too fast and do way too much. Especially after surgery, you should start really slow and short distances, with plenty of rest in between. With some stability work and a slow buildup, you will be able to run again and stay injury free. This challenge was way too ambitious.
