Absolutely awesome reaction. Only nitpick at the end: while Shelter is a collaboration with Madeon, it's most definitely a mainline Porter track. In fact, it is probably THE seminal Porter track (other than maybe like Sad Machine or Language). Porter and Hugo met online as kids and kinda developed their sounds together, collaborating on stuff before they even went by their current artist names. They then blew up within a year of each other, and you can hear the sonic influences in each other's music (especially in Worlds and Madeon's first album, Adventure). Shelter was the culmination of that decade+ of friendship and collaboration, and it resulted in a huge joint world tour where they did remixes of each others' songs in an amazing live show that concluded with a headlining spot at Coachella... and then they went their separate ways again. It was a beautiful moment in electronic music history, and one that many of us cherish dearly. Shelter is very, very special.

Hey for a full deepdive on Porter, you should also listen to his other projects that he has under different aliases. The most common one people know is 'Virtual Self', but he also has 4 more. He used 'DJ Not Porter Robinson' as a way to release nuture remixes, 'Po-Uta' as a vocaloid, 'Ekowraith' as his first alias to release commercial music, and before that was 'Antigon Moore' and that name was used to release some of his first tracks.

Like I specifically love that you brought to attention the super stereo snare in Flicker, which is a detail I've always noticed (and loved) myself, but don't think I've ever heard or read anyone else mention it. 😂 I also agree I'd love to hear Lionhearted live (I'm seeing Porter for the second time in February, the first time was during the Nurture tour). Sadly, he stopped playing Lionhearted less than a year into the Worlds Live tour or so. He's brought it back in sort of simplified/alternate versions on a few occasions, but he has also more or less disowned the song on several occasions, so I feel like he has a pretty troubled relationship with that song in particular, which really is a shame for those of us who genuinely enjoy it quite a lot. Ngl the SMILE! :D tour is gonna go hard regardless though

100% listen to the virtual self ep but also definitely go back and listen to language, easy (full), shelter, and his remix of the thrill. also if youre not already aware hollowheart which was originally set to be on worlds was released yesterday and its quite a nice listen, also from the worlds era that didnt make it into the album is a song called "shepherdess" which also has a very good remix he made titled "she heals everything." nurture actually has a 15th song called "fullmoon lullaby" which is only available for streaming in japan but there are youtube videos that have it. also highly recommend listening to some of his live sets with second sky 21' being my personal favorite and that may also be a fun reaction video. a couple bits of extra info for some of the tracks: -multiple worlds tracks utilize vocaloid which synthesizes speech and is the same program that hatsune miku is made with. the specific voice is called "avanna" and was i believe based on the voice of an irish woman -fresh static snow is about his longing for a partner which he didnt believe hed find -fellow feeling was his sort of "response" to his feelings of not wanting to make the music he had been previously -musicians vocal chops were actually taken from an unreleased demo he made with kero kero bonito and he has a short/tiktok where the process is shown -the voice at the end of is there really no happiness is actually porter just pitched up -part of the get your wish chorus is played in the guitar in everything to me. starts just after the first time he says "this seems like its everything to me" and lines up roughly with "how it felt when you walked on water did you get your wish" and now the yapping subsides

Hey man really dug this! If you’re intrigued Porter’s Worlds Live set is fantastic and a must listen. Think you’d dig. Really captures all the beauty and “nastiness” of Worlds so well
this was so fucking cool to watch dude. just came up on my recommended and spent 2 hours on a channel i've never seen before. wish I could be in your shoes and relisten to all of this for the first time! my only quick point of feedback: maybe try around with decreasing the time that the music volume ducks when you speak? like in other words sometimes you say "damn" and then the music remains a lower volume for the next ~7 seconds. just a thought!

i feel sad for the people who is discovering worlds now and not being able to watch a worlds live show. You know, im not from the US. Porter performing worlds outside the US was so rare so i had to go to SF for the LAST worlds show. i mean, i did everything i could to get the money and watch that show and dude, definitely was the best decision of my life. i went there with my best friend and was the trip of my life. Just watch old porter youtube videos doing like the tour recap and you can catch the vibe of that era, like a one man band doing everything in a live show, playing some zelda melodies live, the visuals which had like a HUGE craftmanship and so many talented people involved in the show from the lights, the audio and visuals, everything was outside of this world. Also, having "David Aguado" art in all Worlds singles, album and tour posters is just something beautiful. Thats why Worlds its so beautiful and i had to witness it with my eyes and ears, it was an album that blended a lot of talents and porter was amazing for curating each of the artists who gave worlds life. Porter shines but also the people he picked shined too. It was like a coop multiplayer game and funnily enough porter inspired worlds from a MMORPG game (starwars galaxies) so wow dude. i love new porter music but Worlds was something so complex, so well crafted and so deep and profound that makes me want to talk about it all day and makes me to dig deeper on his mind and his music production techniques like...its something that must be studied by scientists haha. Listen the singles, they are important into Porter's "lore" since "language" was his engine to move from spitfire into something more emotional. and please listen the last song he "released" called "Hollowheart". its heartwarming just like everything in worlds. Damn... im gonna keep my evangelize to new people with my lord Porter.

If you liked what Worlds had to offer, I highly recommend checking out Worlds: The Movie It's a very well made fan recreation of Worlds Live, and I believe a lot of the live versions of the songs are the definitive versions There's other high quality official recordings of Worlds Live out there in 2024 if you want to opt for those, but I feel Worlds: The Movie is the most iconic version of Worlds Live. The live edit of Language is probably my favorite song of all time. And, as others have said, you absolutely should give Madeon a shot. Porter and Madeon both come from a similar musical background, are good friends, and have produced music together.

Watching this just makes me realize how much of a hairy mess it is to piece together Porter's whole discography. So many of his *best* songs are not even under his name at all. As other commenters mentioned, they're either collaborations, done under different aliases, not given production credits, or remixes of other peoples' songs. Hopefully someday someone can put together a "complete" discography up through SMILE! :D, because I know I personally have a ton of blindspots in my collection. I'm still discovering new tracks to this day, and realizing they're just as catchy as the rest of his work.

To note: Sad Machine, Fresh Static Snow and Goodbye to a World (and also Wind Tempos!) all use a synthetic voice, its called "Vocaloid" (its the most popular vocal synth on the market and has a catchy name so everyone calls it that). The most popular one is Hatsune Miku, ever heard of her? :) Vocaloid is very popular in Japan, and if you enjoyed this computery vocal kinda vibe and you dont find things that are *extremely* anime cringey, id recommend checking it out! Theres a lot of incredible songs made with it, and in a million of different genres too, from metal to pop to dnb
