You absolutely should listen through more Porter Robinson! Tyler Joseph of Twenty One Pilots talked about how much he loves Porters music earlier this year, it's very emotional stuff

The funny monkey lyric is a reference to Pitchfork’s 2006 review of the album Shine On by Jet. It was rated it 0 out of 10 and rather than a written review of the album, there was simply an embedded KZbin video of a chimpanzee urinating into its own mouth entitled “Funny monkey peeing in his own mouth EPIC”.

Thanks for the info. God, that's so needlessly cruel. Then again, that was kind of the vibe in the early 2000s. People talk about things like MySpace for example like it was the greatest nostalgic thing ever. Some of it was fun, but the amount of brutality you'd regularly see in comments sections makes 'X formerly known as Twitter' look like a church.

If you're reacting to Porter songs -- especially Porter _videos_ -- do Something Comforting. One of the best visual metaphors for depression I've ever seen.

A frequent motif in the album this song is from, “Smile :D” is the relationship between Porter and his fans, as represented by a metaphor of a relationship (or literally, as a parasocial relationship). This song, Russian Roulette, is about Porter’s experience in the music industry. He talks about being privileged to be able to employ his best friend full-time, or the power that critics like Pitchfork have over artists. In many ways, these experiences can apply to everyday people as well. Life can feel like a gamble. But we have to live it.

more porter !! you really need to react to the whole album "nurture" by Porter or atleast some of the songs!

You should react to Easier to love you by Porter, its about how we view ourselves and how we should learn to love ourselves. Probably a better content for a therapist react, I'd also shove in 'Blossom' in there

I've got an entire sleeve dedicated to Sad Machine and Shelter by Porter Robinson. Dude helped me through some shitty times. 100% listen to more of him. Both of those, Something Comforting, Get Your Wish, Mirror, Everything Goes On, he's got so many insane songs.

youtube recommended your channel to me, and i'm glad you liked this song from porter so much!! his music means so much to me, and this song is one of my favorites from his new album. to give a bit of background, he came out with an album, Worlds, 10 years ago and then was in a musical slump, going into a deep depression feeling like he couldn't make anything and struggling with his mental health for a very long time. he had a side project, Virtual Self, 3 years after that which explored a style of music very different than Worlds, but then he nearly radio silent for a long time after that. seven years later after Worlds, he released his album Nurture, which was an entirely different style from both Virtual Self and Worlds, and it tackles many of the feelings he had about self-inadequacy, struggles with making music, depression, and more, but it also kinda stated the fact he felt like he finally got over that musical slump. now, just a few weeks ago, he released Smile, which is what Russian Roulette is from. I HIGHLY recommended listening to his other music if you liked this so much. Porter has gone on record to state he has OCD and ADHD, which are both things I have, and it might sound kind of silly, but I can *hear it* in his music. there's just this deep sense of comfort I get from his music. ANYWAY I hope you enjoy his music!! I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel! enjoy!!

Most of his songs are not this... Uhh... Sporadic? Im a BIG fan yet I hated this one when it came out becauae it just seemed messy. I think that was part of the point in hindsight. It has grown on me a LOT since then, but it will never be anywhere near his best work IMO. So for anyone that this is their intro to Porter's music, do yourself a favor and listen to some others.
