Even though Seven Days in June isn't a comedic book, it has my favorite type of comedy. Y'know, the kind of comedy that doesn't make me laugh out loud, but makes me go "ah, that's clever."

when you said "it's really close to 5 but there's just something missing for me, i can't put my finger on it" that is EXACTLY how i feel about emily henry's books as well!! hypothetically, they should be 5 stars right? everything seems perfects and i really genuinely love them, she's so talented at writing & i connect to her characters. they're just really well written books. i also have no idea what's missing but they're always a hair away from 5 stars for me.

Literally me too! I know I loved the book and it basically fixes the issues I have with most romance books but… it’s just not a five star. I might not know what exactly was missing for me but it’s always completely obvious to me when a book is a five star read and this didn’t feel like one

book lovers is the only emily henry book that I've thoroughly enjoyed. I know some people felt like the sister relationship overshadowed the romance, but personally I loved that nora spent time working on herself & her trauma instead of just pouring herself into a relationship & pretending like a man can make all her problems go away. I also thought it showed that charlie was confident in himself enough to let nora be her own person & not have to be with her every minute of the day. it was a great representation of a normal, healthy relationship imo & the banter actually made me lol 💖

@@queenb2450 I actually was so bored reading Beach Read. The cult stuff took way too much space in the book and I didnt see the appeal in Gus lol he just sulked too much and was way too pessimistic and I guess I just didnt find the appeal in any of that XD I also didnt really connect to January at allll I agree with OP, Book Lovers for me was the most enjoyable. Loved the banter and Charlie
@matchagrlie

I absolutely LOVED that Nora didnt have to let go of who she was just to be with Charlie or to make her sister happy. She stayed true to herself even when that meant letting go and dealing with the outcome of that. I wouldve hated if they wouldve made Nora stay back and give up her life and everything that makes her HER just for a guy. I also loved that Charlie understood that. The banter was so great and it really showed a healthy relationship with good communication. Absolute chefs kiss

The premise is good but I didn't enjoy the execution. Idk why, but the author just has such mediocre writing and it doesn't pull me in. It's very slow to read and I'm sure some people like it, but most people agree that her books are okay at best, and not amazing

16:31 I felt the same way about Charlie. Like I'm not acespec but I am neurodivergent as hell and the way he would literally put my own thoughts, feelings, and experiences into words. Like I could not BELIEVE how deeply I related to him. No character has ever made me feel more represented or seen in not only experiencing social anxiety, but for the specific reasons WHY I have social anxiety. Side note: you should read A Charmed Christmas, a bonus Christmas chapter that Alison Cochrun wrote and posted on their website. It melted my heart as much as the actual book did.

I also adored the charm offensive; it was so sweet! but what I loved most was the message that romantic love isn't necessary to complete a person - happiness exists within ourselves and platonic love can be just as fulfilling as romantic love. but the most rewarding type of love is self-love ❤

As soon as you started talking about A Lady for Duke, I thought of Cat Sebastian. Her books are more light, for-fun reads than heavy, emotional romance, but I do enjoy the antics her characters get up to and it's all very queer. It's historical romance, too! Anyway, I'm so glad you got your romance redemption arc and I need to read the Charm Offensive immediately
