Girl, the biggest problem with this series is that BRANDON AND NIKKI NEVER GET TOGETHER. Like, I remember reading a part in 'Crush Catastrophe' (or puppy love) where Brandon tells Nikki, "Actually, Nikki, I REALLY LIKE YOU" and NOTHING HAPPENS. The pair act all lovey-dovey, yet NEVER get together. There's no relationship drama, nay, not even CONFESSION drama. We never find out why they don't become a thing. Not only that, but when Andre flirts with Nikki, BRANDON gets jealous?! But, like... Nikki never told Andre that she likes Brandon AND Brandon and Nikki aren't a thing. I mean, COME ON! *Flips invisible table* Anyway, I gave up on the series after 'Birthday Drama'. I just could NOT with the 'viral dances' page.

Tales of a Not-So-Friendly Frienemy was the first book from this series I read in a while and I remember thinking and being excited about a possible status quo change with Nikki and Mackenzie at the end not exactly being friends but being on good enough terms that Nikki doesn't have to worry about being antagonized by Mackenzie anymore but of course, all of that was undone. That really disappointed me.

I used to love any sort of book that was from the perspective of a kid writing in a diary. Dork Diaries, Diary of a wimpy kid, Dear Dumb Diary, Big Nate, the Popularity Papers, Middle School the worst years of my life, etc. As a kid who drew a lot and kept a lot of journals, I found it really relatable. Especially when the main character really liked art/drawing, because I wanted to make a career out of it when I was younger & found it very inspiring, and I was really shy lol

It's good, but I still find Nikki more compelling because I relate to her more and she had a lot of development until around that same book where it's just throwing interesting plot points away to rehash old ideas. Also, that take reminds me of a few Goodreads reviews that criticized the book for focusing too much on Mackenzie's thoughts on Nikki instead of her home life and even Brandon (considering her one-sided crush on him). It just sucks that they threw away Mac's potential redepmtion instead of utilizing the new villain Tiffany, who I hated since I read 11. Now, I'm just neutral on her. Aside from Mackenzie's spectacular sense of fashion, I disliked her more because some of her stans just defend her actions because her parents suck. Like, she blackmailed girls and was involved in putting an animal shelter out of business!? And she's the victim cuz you couldn't handle a girl complaining about not getting a cell phone - which was part of the book's lesson?! I just call that version of Mac the lost episode creepypasta AU cuz there are a bunch of bad LEC's and these iterations show that they didn't pay enough attention to the books.

Man I remember being way into Dork Diaries when I was like 10-13 years old (and back when I was an avid reader, I'm not anymore). I still have books 1-6 on my bookshelf collecting dust. Great video! Brought back memories.

When I was a kid, I used to have most of the Dork Diaries books (I was missing a few but they do enough recap that you don't really have to have them all) and I remember only liking the first two because I thought the other ones were incredibly unrealistic

I remember not liking these books but still reading them all because I had nothing else to do to distract me from quarantine when I was younger. I hated them all so much but I had already read all the wimpy kid books and desperately needed something new. I remember reading the Max Crumbly books after dork diaries and liking them a whole lot more. I remember those being way funnier and more entertaining.
