Psychopath and sociopath are not the same. Psychopaths are highly intelligent. They would have jobs like police, doctor, congressman, stuff like that. Yes, they can have families. They just lack a conscience and feelings or remorse. Sociopaths attack the emotions and mind. They do more manipulation. I saw a couple of really good KZbin channels that talk about the difference between psychopaths and sociopaths.

Lol….You do know sociopaths and psychopath are individual, right? There are High-functioning sociopaths who are calculated, steady job, married. Not all psychopaths are smart….Not all sociopath are short-tempered. My brother is diagnosed with ASPD he’s not even a short-tempered person. He’s cold, indifferent, calm, manipulative person, calculated…I call him cold reptile and yet he’s not a psychopath, explain this to me? The actual diagnosis is anti-social personality disorder. Psychopath/sociopath are ways to describe how their symptoms manifest. I knew a psychopath from school. Friend of a friend thing. Heard he gave good hugs.👍 It’s also a spectrum, so some people have more/stronger symptoms and some have fewer/weaker symptoms. Depends on the person.

I think Psychopathy is more a mix of NPD and ASPD than just ASPD. Psychopaths tend to be narcissistic/egotistical, instead of just Sociopathic.

@@yeetusfeetus7877 Not necessarily. I actually study anti-social personality disorder just out of curiosity, but I'm not a professional just do my research. From what I know narcissism surfaces surprisingly from insecurity. They do not feel like they are good enough and develop a complex of trying to convince both themselves and others that they are the perfect version of something. That something is different for every narcissist depending on what they became obsessed with. Psychopaths tend to develop NPD due to the fact that they experience emotions less that most people. This causes an insecurity of not feeling normal and trying to convince people that they are better than everyone else. However, while this is the case with some, others latch on to different forms of OCD or other addictive behaviors as a way to cope. Many people with ASPD have Depression due to this fact.

No a psycopath is because of how their brains are wired but a sociopath is due to environmental factors, there's a huge difference between the two of them. Also in Business Ethics, predatory business practices do have consequences and just because it's not "illegal" doesn't give them the reason to justify it.

While there are definitely differences between the two, both can be brought on by either nature or nurture or a combination of both. Environmental factors like how someone was raised can affect how their brain is wired because the brain doesn't fully develop until around 25(range varies person to person). Genetics can also affect the brains layout and cause psychopathy or sociopathy. Both nature and nurture play a role in anti-social personality disorder

When you think of serial killers you are thinking more along the lines of sociopath. They don't have the same masks as psychopaths, which is the main difference (that I understand anyways). Psychopaths are good manipulators to get what they want, for most it's money and/or money. People think they are really nice and likable, also incredible intelligent. Most sociopaths are less intelligent or simple thinking, I want this so I'll do the simplest thing to get it(with out regards to social norms). They also have less controll and are more likely to act out. They probably can't build families like psychopaths usually can. And most people can tell something is off right away. (I am not a professional though, so take with a grain of salt. I am a psych student and watch way to many cop shows and psych videos on KZbin.)

I thought it was just me but there are a lot of people who cant feel emotions. the only feelings I genuinely feel are mostly guilt and empathy (or sympathy, idk). even when my father passed away, I only cried because I felt guilty for not actually being sad and also because my family was crying. idk the difference between sympathy and empathy, but basically I cried because all of my family was crying and not because I was sad. i cant feel love but I genuinely try to help my family and friends and be there for them like a person that actually loves them would, but these tasks feel like chores. even celebrating my friend's birthday with her felt like a chore even if I had fun. i just want to be left alone but if I'm alone, I feel lonely. maybe this is depression idk

At least you can feel empathy/sympathy. I can only feel anger and sadness? I have a condition where I have no name for my emotions because my brain can’t read them. I can’t feel happiness and I can’t feel disgusted I can feel jealousy tho and show signs of BPD as well as Depressive Psychosis (which no one knows how it develops). What’s worse is we think I have autism as well as when I was a kid I tended to torture animals for entertainment (I did stop and I feel guilt for that)

Your comments resonate with me. Especially about wanting to be left alone and then feeling lonely. It's a no win situation. I also felt very little when my father and brother died (six years apart). But in time I was able to unlock my feelings and mourn "properly" (There's no "proper" way to mourn or grieve; when I say I could mourn "properly" I mean I was actually to mourn ... it was like clearing a clog from a nozzle. It blasted out with no warning and then there was uncontrollable flow of emotions.) Grieving was important for me because it caused me to re-see both of them and I was able to remember to good things. I think concentrating on bad things temporarily blocked my grief. I'm rambling, sorry. I should probably talk to a professional therapist about this. 😐 I'm sorry for your loss. I hope some day you'll be able to grieve.

One time years ago my brother's best friend at the time pulled a prank by sneaking into the bedroom through the window and flipping the mattresses upsidedown (he shared a room with my other brother at the time),replacing the pillows with cinder blocks in the pillow cases, and leaving a lawnmower in the middle of the room. I should also add, he (and another friend who helped) managed to pull this whole thing off without anyone in my family noticing even though we were literally one room away. Yeah. We were pretty oblivious. It was a good prank though.

I have aspergers and sometimes I scare my self thinking I might be phsyco. It's not that I don't have emotion I just don't know how to react. For example if my friend said a family member died I would feel sympathy and feel sad for them but i wouldn't know what to say and my instincts would say to leave the conversation amedently. Since there my friends I really want to comfort them and I try my best but I'm never really good at it. My personality on my own is very excited and hyper and I'm a major nerd about the specific subjects I like. I found out this was normal for people like me but I tend to match ( to a degree) the people I'm with. When I feel comfortable with the people I'm with I am totally my self. I even tend to use a falsetto ( higher voice) if I'm uncomfortable with the people I am with. My friends know this and we've never had any problems. Though I have a running joke with my mum that I can't tell when she is joking or not ( usually it's pretty funny and it's happened since I was little)

The story of the person who doesn't feel emotion reminded me of what I read on Reddit a while ago. It was about a boy who had a brother that was pretty much in a "vegetable" state. He couldn't do anything on his own, he never spoke/made noises, he rarely blinked, and he never showed any feeling/emotion. This caused the boy's mom to constantly ignore him to take care of the brother 24/7. One day the boy started yelling, crying, and hurting his brother because he was jealous that his mom never gave him attention. If I remember correctly, there was never a proper diagnosis for him and he eventually had to be moved to live at a facility for further research. But I believe he was actually born like this which is bizarre to me. It's just all around such a tragic story, I really wonder if that boy's brother was talking/feeling on the inside.. so sad to think about.

Actually, most people are born with anti social personality disorder. Those who are born with it are usually better at hiding it. Also, at least where I live, people can't get a diagnosis of aspd until they are 18. However, some people develop an aspd as a trauma response to something that happened as a kid.

When I was studying education, I was taught that a psychopath is someone is born without the ability to feel emotions and that a sociopath is someone who learned to not feel sympathy for others either because they were taught that through being spoiled and becoming entitled and not caring about others feelings as long as they get their way, or by having some of their emotional needs not met which hinders their emotional growth. Without actually going into a child's background it's hard to know what it is, so a teacher just has to meet a child where he or she is and try to nurture them the best they can for the time that they have them in their class.

Okay so I have a lot of info if anyone wants it. Feel free to correct me if anything is incorrect :) So psychopathy is something that the person is usually born with and it affects about 1% of the population. The sociopathy (which makes up about 1/3 anti-social personality disorder cases), is a developmental thing, which is usually a side effect of things such as abuse when the person is a child. It affects about 5% of the population, so odds are, you know a sociopath. Also, here's how not to confuse them. Sociopaths are people who have like an overly emotional reaction, usually angry, to situations and lacking empathy. This can lead to them being abusive and such towards others, although this is not always the case, because some of them are striving to change for the better. Psychopaths tend to be very controlling and manipulative, and can be incredibly cunning and good at hiding their mental state if they decide to do so and they also lack empathy. This exists on a spectrum, so there are very few people who are the worst of them. The large majority of people that suffer from these mental disorders are not nearly as bad as the people in the stories, but are only a little sociopathic/psychopathic. They are also the people who can be more self-aware about things like this, and strive for change. People on the far end of the spectrum have far more potential for being dangerous and extreme cases.

Someone backed into my mom's car so she would get the money for damage on her car. She lost because we were giving my mom's lawyer a ride home from the store, (his wife was at work, and they share a car) he witnessed everything, and my mom pressed charges against her. The woman who backed into us has unfortunately done this not once, twice, but five times. Sad life for that woman.

My best friend in my teenage years learned I had a crush on his older brother. Thinking he was having a laugh, he decided to try and set us up. It worked big time, and his brother became my first partner. Soon after, my best friend met my older brother and they hit it off immediately. They were like perfect for each other in every way. For almost a year he dated my brother. He gave his virginity to my brother, took my brothers virginity. They seemed so in love, so close, so romantic. My relationship with his brother ended, and soon after he left my brother for someone else. I was so confused. They seemed like they would last forever. Then he told me the truth. He did it all for revenge because I was spending more time with his brother than him.

When I was younger I had a friend all throughout primary school let’s call her Mia we had a toxic friendship one day we would be hanging out laughing. Then on the bus home she would say that I was a bitch for no reason I felt sorry for her because she had 5 brothers and she was the youngest so I stayed friends with her until she took it too far and told a teacher that I’d been bullying her and telling her to k i l l herself. So I am by no means an expert on this kind of stuff, but I have researched a lot of mental illness/disorders in my free time because I find it interesting. So if I get something wrong in this comment feel free to correct me. I’m pretty sure what we call a “sociopath” or a “psychopath” is actually something called anti-social personality disorder. It’s mostly the same thing as what we would call a psychopath but honestly I feel like we should call it anti-social personality disorder instead of psychopathy because like we have read in some of these stories, there are quite a few people with this disorder who can put on a mask and act like a completely normal person and are fully aware that they don’t experience things like empathy and emotions. And honestly I feel like that goes for almost for ANY mental illness/disorder. Most people who’s brains are wired differently don’t like being treated like outcasts. Most of them just want to be normal. And as for whether it’s caused by upbringing, it can be caused by genetics and or upbringing. Anyways like I said, this is just what I’ve found through researching this kind of stuff and I’m by no means a professional. So if I got something wrong here or you have something to add feel free to do so. :)

My son has a hard time with expressing sadness. He knows what it feels like, and he can say he feels sad inside. He just doesn't want to cry. I told him it's ok not to cry as long as he accepts the fact that it's ok for others to and to support them when they are sad. He expresses happiness, fear, excitement, ect... just fine. He just doesn't like to or has a hard time crying. And it's ok.

Most likely, and that's why I respect his response. And always tell him it's ok to feel sad, but if you ever feel really sad ( like depressed) or angry because of it to please tell somebody. He just has a different way of expressing grief as do I sometimes and I've had people tell me I'm responding incorrectly to which I promptly tell them they can find something better to do than to analyze me and be my therapist.

I got a story similar to this: So my ex-friend which I’ve been with for 3 years. I became friends with her when another friend I’m friends with introduced me too. Later that year, that other friend didn’t want to be friends with my ex-friend anymore. (There we’re no bad intentions! She just didn’t want to be her friend anymore) When she told her, she cried and pretty much played victim and that other friend got bullied for a bit of time. (At this time all I knew was that that friend didn’t want to be friends with my ex-friend anymore) So fast forward to this year, I started to mature a bit and became more introverted and my ex-friend got super annoying. And also she was super boy crazy and would simp over kpop idols and people at school. But there was still a part of me that didn’t want to do it because I was friends with her for a long time. But one month ago, a different friend who was also friends with my ex-friend. (Not the same person who got bullied) Told me tea about my ex-friend. She told me that she broke up with her boyfriend to go for someone else. But when she told her mom, she said that the boyfriend broke up with her. Which I was there when she broke up with him and she did it. That friend also told me that she thought that my ex-friend is a pick me girl. And then I realized that I needed to get away from this girl! I actually don’t know if this is considered toxic or being a sociopath or psychopath but I wanted to get away from her. I actually haven’t told her I don’t want to be friends with her anymore because I’m afraid that she will play victim and I’m going to get bullied or be questioned about it a lot.

a girl that comes to our open day shows' (horse riding) mum that has something wrong with her. Her daughter is so nice but her mother forces her to be mean to everyone. When she tries to be a good sport and clap for someone that had a good round shell get scolded by her mother. Her mum also abuses the horse (whipping hard when the horse had done barely anything wrong, forcing the daughter to wear spurs, etc.) I wish I could help but im only a kid :( that mum needs therapy

But then you hear how the most successful people are psychopaths. They don't care about your well-being as long as they don't break you. Terrifying to think about.

Psychopathy-I hope I spelled that right-is an anti-social disorder that you can either be born with or environmental factors in your early childhood can cause you to develop it or make the symptoms worse. My family has issues with mental health. My biological grandfather has psychopathy and so does my mother. And so do I. It was a pretty weak form for me until my mother took me away from a happy home to live with her. Five years of torture just living with her. Then I broke off from her and now live in a great environment. There where still problems with her for years after that until I completely cut her out of my life. She was a narcissistic lunatic who couldn't even take care of herself much less a child. I got diagnosed when I was I think 13-14 when I became really violent. I didn't really understand what I was doing was wrong. I, unlike my mother, am not narcissistic. I have very low self esteem because of her. I also got bipolar from her. Thanks mother. I'm a lot chiller than I was and my therapist said that I was finally showing emotions. Like sadness or anger. I'm doing a lot better than I was. Also, about the psychopaths' becoming politicians or doctors or some kind of high intelligence job. Uh, no. I may be very smart, but I'm not even going to college. I would rather become a content creator thank you very much. Jesus christ, I just reread what I wrote and it's all over the place. It's so long too. I am so sorry for that essay. i am considered a psychopath which is hard to admit i feel some emotion i understand others emotion and am able to show emotion quite well none of my freinds know only a few family members do i watch sad movies with freinds and sit there staring blankly while they're all sobbing i understand why they're sad but i don't feel sad im not manipulative im not evil i don't have a thirst for blood i just have childhood coping issues that caused me to mask any emotion to protect myself however it's been maybe ten years since i started doing that and ever since i haven't been the same. i don't think i'm a psychopath i think it's a different issue but that's what my psychiatrist thinks so i belive her

I literally saw sociopath v.s psychopath videos a few weeks ago. From what I looked up and was taught, sociopaths are only born based on their environment while I think psychopaths can be born that way but sometimes are not. Psychopaths mostly use manipulation to act like they care while having little to no emotions, while sociopaths are more impulsive and are easier to identify. Hoped that helped, love your videos

My old best friend is so stereotypical psychopath, that I wonder how I didn't realize it sooner. We were friends starting in 3rd grade. He was extremely smart, but never did his homework. He had a really bad home life, he got kicked out for being bi when he was 13. He was definitely the type of person that would hurt small animals. He told me in 9th grade that I was his first love because I was the first person that treated him like a human. I don't really know what to take that as. He was dating my best friend and gave her 10 years of life. He lived with my family for 9 months and would talk about how he would kill all of us. Then he abandoned my friend, the person he was dating in Alaska after cheating on her. That's when I decided to cut ties. Though, late last year, he messaged me on Facebook asking how I was doing.

@kyutie I love your videos and your takes on the people you're reading about. Watching your videos, and those of a select group of others, is a bright spot in my day. But one thing you said today kinda made me sad. "The fact that he's forty and hanging out with 20 year olds? That's frickin' weird." I know you went on to cite other things that made that guy weird, but I was left figuratively gasping by your comment because I'm wondering how people in your generation are viewing me. I'm 56; my wife left me five years ago; I have no children or blood niblings; my father is dead as is my only sibling; I'm separated from my cousins by hundreds of miles and in most cases by at least 10 years; many of my friends have moved away, others have moved on. My mother is still alive but she's 87 and fading. I have nobody anymore and I don't cleanly fit in to any group. I try to befriend people of various ages. But I often find myself approaching the 20-somethings in the office and trying to make conversation. I try not to pry but I ask questions about their lives to show an interest in them and not just talk about myself. I never talk about anything that might be misinterpreted as inappropriate and I would NEVER expose myself as a "joke." But now I'm a little shaken ... do the young men think I'm a closeted bi? Do the young women think I'm a creep? (Or "frickin' weird" as you phrased it?) I'm not trying to attack you or zero in on a single phrase you uttered in a video where you spent eleven and a half minutes saying OTHER things. I'm just left a little sad and insecure now. (Probably because I had already wondered it and this just gives definition to my insecurities.) Please know that most people in an older generation don't want anything inappropriate when they talk to you; they just want a friend and they want to connect with someone who is chronologically the same age that they feel they are. Keep up the good work! So many people like me need people like you to continue doing what you're doing.

Psychopathy is an interesting subject to me. I've seen several documentaries on it, and there are some treatments available. Basically, it's like there's an invisible barrier around the part of the brain that allows you to experience the same things "normal" people do. Only very strong emotions and experiences get through, mostly thrill-related stuff. Hence why they do well in any kind of "hunting" type of activities, like the guy who worked in the financial field and was allowed to make decisions others would feel as being "cruel or tough". Others will turn to crime, not just murder I'll let you know, but apparently "the thrill of doing something others consider bad" and "the thrill of possibly getting caught" is strong enough to get through to their brain. I can imagine knowing someone who is a psychopath could be quite scary. But I find it an interesting subject. Just know that the majority of them aren't murderers.

Today, both psychopathy and sociopathy MAY be used as terms implying an Antisocial Personality Disorder, the OFFICIAL diagnosis for an individual displaying the traits of either term. While there is much overlap between psychopathy and sociopathy, they are not one and the same. What Is a Sociopath? The term sociopathy was coined in the era of behaviorism between 1920 to 1950 as a primary psychological theory, but it has since fallen out of use. “This term has not been used in modern science for several decades-for example, you cannot get funding from the National Institute of Health [NIH] to study ’sociopaths,'” says Kent Kiehl, Ph.D, a neuroscientist studying brain imagine, criminal psychopathy and other psychotic disorders in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When the term was still in use, it was believed that people were born as blank slates and subsequently shaped by their environment or social forces, ultimately resulting in a good or bad personality, says Kiehl. However, this view was determined to be incorrect and, as focus shifted to increasing accuracy and reliability in diagnosis, the term “sociopathy” was dropped from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) about 20 years ago. What Is a Psychopath? Even though the term is not an official diagnosis per the DSM-5, psychopathy remains a term in psychology today to indicate individuals who display high levels of unemotionalism or callousness, as well as impulsiveness or developmental antisocial traits, such as destructive or aggressive behavior. Symptoms of psychopathy generally appear in early childhood and impact all areas of an individual’s life, including relationships with family, friends, at school and at work. About 1.2% of the adult population has psychopathy, according to a 2021 study in Frontiers of Psychology. Those with psychopathy tend to display antisocial behaviors, such as a lack of empathy and disregard for the well-being and emotions of others, which can negatively impact relationships both personally and professionally as they struggle to connect and trust the world around them. Psychopath and Sociopath Traits The traits of a psychopath and a sociopath are “the same,” according to Kiehl, with both falling under the clinical diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder. However, in terms of social construction (everyday people's knowledge), the two terms are viewed somewhat differently. Specifically: -Sociopaths tend to act more impulsively and erratically compared to psychopaths. -Sociopaths generally struggle to maintain a job or a family life, whereas psychopaths may be able to do so. -While psychopaths generally struggle to form attachments, sociopaths may be able to do so with a like-minded individual. -Psychopaths may be better able to disassociate from their actions and experience less guilt than sociopaths. In order for a patient to be diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder, they must display a “persistent disregard for the rights of others,” according to the DSM-5 clinical criteria as listed in the Merck Manual, a medical reference guide. This disregard is indicated by the presence of three or more of the following traits: -Disregarding the law (such as committing acts that are grounds for arrest repeatedly) -Acting in a deceitful manner (lying repeatedly, deceiving others for personal gain or using aliases) -Being impulsive or failing to plan ahead -Acting irresponsibly on a consistent basis (quitting a job without plans to get another or failing to pay bills) -Being easily provoked or aggressive (frequently getting into physical fights) -Failing to feel remorse (feeling indifferent to or rationalizing the mistreatment of others) However, the most utilized method to assess traits of a psychopath in clinical or forensic work is the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R), says Kiehl. The assessment can be used to predict violence and other negative outcomes, as well as explore treatment potential. The assessment includes 20 items on which individuals are rated on a scale of zero to two based on how much their personality or behavior matches the item’s description. This results in two primary scales-one to measure emotional detachment and one for antisocial behavior-which combine for a total score. The highest score an individual can get on the PCL-R is 40, and a score of at least 30 is needed for someone to be classified as a someone with Antisocial Personality Disorder. Items on the assessment include: Glibness/superficial charm Grandiose sense of self-worth Need for stimulation Pathological lying Conning/manipulative Lack of remorse or guilt Shallow affect Callous/lack of empathy Parasitic lifestyle Poor behavioral controls Promiscuous sexual behavior Early behavioral problems Lack of realistic, long-term goals Impulsivity Irresponsibility Failure to accept responsibility Many short-term relationships Juvenile delinquency Revocation of conditional release (meaning someone was granted a conditional release from prison and that release has been revoked.) It is a nature vs nuture topic. ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) they are finding that some people are born with a violence gene that may not necessarily switched on. It takes nuturing to switch it on (the gene is mainy the ones that can become serial killers usually) people with ASPD make up about 1% of the population (but dont quote me on that). It's been a year since I looked at abnormal psychology so there are some things that could be wrong.

Ellen, you and I are much more likely to kill someone than a psychopath. They don't tend to kill people because they don't fall into the trap of passion and logically realize how much trouble killing someone is. Serial Killers are an extremely minor percentage of psychopaths. Most are likely nice people trying to get through life as best they can just like any one else.
