Not sure how you can honestly recommend this. First and foremost this is the last of us to real fans. Not last of us part 1. Anyway this game is just a very expensive cash grab. The game already looked amazing and stunning and none of this was needed. You can barely tell the difference except in cutscenes. 70$ is not justifiable for what they spent hell not even 20$. Finally naughty dog after the last of us 2 debacle lost all credibility because of how bad the "sequel" was and what they did to people sharing details of the leak. This isn't worth it at all

Everyone knew The Last of Us 1 is a brilliant game, the quality was never in question. If it was 40 dollars, we wouldn't even be here discussing. The problem here is that they are charging 70 DOLLARS for updated graphics on a game that already had a remaster before. Buying this game sets a dangerous precedent for the industry. How can people find THIS acceptable but moan and whine when EA charges 70 dollars for FIFA? Or Todd Howard charges 60 bucks for the 5th version of Skyrim.

I don’t disagree, but for some people, this is a brand new game they haven’t experienced. It’s hard to say what is “right” and what isn’t, so obviously if the price is unreasonable, buy it when it is cheaper. That is my plan, but I can’t really attack Naughty Dog for charging the price of new game for something that can very well be a new game for some and definitely a new experience, even for veteran players. If people don’t buy, the price will reduce more quickly. I will happily keep my PS4 version until the price comes down, and if it doesn’t, I just don’t buy it. Not sure how this will affect the industry, more will be revealed.

All I'll say is the greatest remake of a game and one of the best games of the last/current generation, Resident Evil 2 was 39.99€ at launch and that was built completely from the ground up besides the characters and story. Personally I don't think this is worth the asking price at 79.99€. I'll probably pick it up at some point in a deep sale. I hope most people wait for a sale and not shell out full price for this. Doing so will only embolden the current leadership of PlayStation that they can get away with such predatory practices. We've already seen so many of them implemented this generation.

I don't know how relevant that question is. I think people question the $70 price tag because that's a decision Sony made that doesn't feel necessary. Whether or not you personally want to play the game would call into question if TLOU remake even deserves to exist. I think it does for audiences that haven't experienced it or love the game enough to warrant the purchase. It you don't want to play the game again, though, that's perfectly fine, but I don't think it has much weight on the game itself or the price.

I absolutely adored TLOU Remastered. It's one of the few games I've platinumed. But here's the thing: the asking price of TLOU Part 1 is the same as a brand new, made-from-scratch AAA, even though Part 1 is *not* brand new. They're recycling a lot of the original game (code, story, art, design, music etc). Yet going by the asking price, they're suggesting that the same amount of creativity, time & effort went into making Part 1 as the original/a new AAA game. This is clearly not true. The remake also doesn't even have the great Factions multiplayer mode that was in the original! I think there'd be far fewer complaints if they just offered some kind of upgrade path for people who own the Remaster. As it is, I think they're simply being greedy. I'll probably get it when it goes on a deep sale in a few years.
@jasonwalsh32672 жыл бұрын
No way is it worth 70 dollars. That's just ludicrous!!

I have mixed feelings on it because I love part 1. Those facial animations are well done, the combat seems similar, but things like grabbing enemies and holding at gunpoint seem to be improved or more clearly and smoothly indicated and/or integrated into more seamless gameplay. I think people are mostly upset that they didn't make Joel more agile, (like Ellie and Abby's gameplay in part 2) which would have taken more overhaul of the game and they would have needed to change entire areas to fit a new player maneuver path. I personally could overlook it if they actually gave us a good post part 1 game (before the abysmal part 2 events...) maybe a 1.5 and incorporated everything about the combat system into it. There are ways to please the fans, if they actually want to do that, you know, and not listen to loudmouthed feminists who are obviously not the primarily consumer or fanbase. And have no business telling the rest of us what entertainment we should be enjoying.

To anyone that is ok with it more power to you but i've played this game enough times and enough time hasn't passed were I'm nostalgic for an old game updated to look new. So i'll wait for next year's Summer sale and see what the price is then. My backlog of games means I won't need this game again for a while and I just replayed the remaster in May. Update: after watching more reviews over the last 24 hours did anyone else notice a lot of them hit a point where they say "Whether these changes are worth it to you we can not say?" @@AmateurHuman19 In my written review, I pretty much gave it proper praise for the amount of accessible options on display in that game, as well as giving it props where it was needed. Mainly when the game allowed for varied encounters or even allowed you to play with situational environment moments (specifically turning the infected onto the unsuspecting WLF/Rattlers only for them to be either thinned out or too busy dealing with the chaos for you to slip on by). Which were all done competently well, in spite of my strong and ultimately stern criticism at the story/narrative components of that game.

Yeah and this is something I keep reading, except for the fact that Factions is coming in 2023 and not only is it going to be much bigger than the previous version but it will be standalone and not locked behind the paywall or ownership of a game. In other words Factions not being included here is a win for Playstation users because everybody whether they own this game or not will be able to play it. Or what would you prefer? That's.. a -weird- interesting way of thinking. I mean... not saying that to judge it, I was just surprised to read it, as it's not something I've ever really considered before... that a re-play could remove some of the magic of the original memory. Hmh. Maybe there's something to that. So far when I've revisited something I experienced long ago, I've felt it has provided a new, different experience, but so far nothing has soured the original memory. The experiences exist as two individual memories. Like when I originally played Metal Gear Solid - and when I revisited it after a decade. At least I don't think it changed how I think about the first time... Or maybe it did...? But in a way, I kinda really like your way of thinking. That the great experience and memory doesn't need anything more to it and you want to preserve it... Kinda cool. :) It's actually making me re-think my "I wonder if I should re-play Zone Of The Enders again, I remember it was great".... maybe that good memory is better than the re-visit would be... idk. The "Robocop" comparison is brilliant in addressing the emotional connection to a product and how it impacts our perception of value. This is a fantastic game and I recommend everyone play it... just not at $70. Logically, this would tell the industry they could continue to give us less and charge more as long as they hit us in the feels. This game at this price point is not equivalent to an IP built specifically for this generation of gaming releasing at the same price point. Personally, $60 should remain the ceiling for new titles with physical release, especially in this digital world with higher profits for publishers.
@NrettG2 жыл бұрын
I think $50 to $70 is a good price range for AAA games. If the game truly deserves it then yeah $70 lets go for it. But I don't like them abusing the $70, titles like NBA2K and the Madden Games are going for $70 when they really should be sticking to $50.
@aidanya13362 жыл бұрын
I would not mind the $70 if it was a good game. But i feel like the gaming industry is just so risky atm for a $70 buy. So many games ask for this price but have cut content, miss features, bad stories you name it. And i am not even talking about battlepasses, cash shops and any other monetization ways. It is just so hard to know if a game will live up to the quite large spend (for most people) of $70. So ye i mostly opt out of games that cost this much. The best solution, make games with expansions. Sell your game for 40/50 and release an expansion for 20/30 (pretty much like monster hunter does). This way you get the price from people and it does not feel like such a high price.

The behind the scenes video definitely oversold it though. They say it's rebuilt entirely for PS5, but realistically it was rebuilt entirely for PS4, it uses tons of TLOU 2 assets, but it has Haptic Feedback, 3D Audio and the Tension Triggers, 2 of those 3 are gimmicks and also wouldn't be hard to add, the audio would have been redone with the visuals anyway. The Robocop analogy is actually the first time someone has been able to explain this game in a way that makes sense. Because of course, if you love a game or a movie or an album that much, you'll buy the super duper remake with HD/4K/60fps visuals, of course you'd buy the album and the vinyl and reprinted vinyl with additional tracks. Personally, I've just never been that into Last of Us. It took me a long time to even finish the first one, and I still haven't finished the second one. They're just not my thing. And that's fine, because it's a lot of peoples thing, and for a lot of people they'll have some figure in their head of what they'll pay for a really respectfully well done remake of something they love. And probably, for everyone else, it WILL end up being a PS+ premium game in a couple years. I've never got behind the "cheap cashgrab" mob gathering around this game, it's clear it's more than just an HD remake. I've personally always sat behind the "it's too soon" mob. It's one thing to pay $100 for a remaster of a 30 year old movie, it's another to charge $70 for a remake of a 9 year old game that already had a remastered version. It would be like Rockstar charging that much for PS5 GTA 5 when they've already cashed in on the original PS3 release, and PS4 remaster.
@joelshajan49962 жыл бұрын
But it is just an HD remake.That's the thing.Accessibility deaturs don't matter much to the majority of people.The facial animations aren't all that improved(watch a video comparison,don't take my word for it),So yeah,just a facelift when you get down to the basics,nothing additional added.Also the robocop analogy falls flat i think,it only applies to the most hardcore of hardcore,but that's not most of us now is it?
@kgjung23102 жыл бұрын
The analogy, while effective, is also a bit misapplied. Movies and games are different mediums and so are the expectations of fans of both mediums. If a remastered version of a film came out and changes were made to the story, cinaphiles would likely be in a uproar. They would demand the original theatrical version unless it was clear the additions made the movie better or better reflected the original intent of the director. Even then many would demand the original cut be made available in some way. Gamers, as this incident shows, sometimes expect gameplay changes or even additions as that as seen as meaningful improvement. A perceived mere fresh coat of paint is not seen favorably usually.

I heavily disagree with your Robocop comparison. Unlike movies which cannot be patched and updated, software can. This is why updates like the Skyrim Special edition update the old Skyrim build and why the Anniversary Edition was discounted if you already owned the Special Edition. There are many other examples of this. There is absolutely no reason not to offer a patch/update for $15-20 for those who already own the PS4 remaster. The only reason is GREED. You know Sony is wrong when even Bethesda has a more consumer-friendly upgrade plan for their games.
@trevor08092 жыл бұрын
you couldn’t offer a patch/update for a visual overhaul of this scale (hell even the minor gameplay changes couldn’t be brought in through an update) you could be talking about some sort of upgrade path, which would be unconventional for a remake (especially since people who have only bought the ps3 game couldn’t take advantage of it) but it might’ve been better recieved than unashamedly charging $70

Even the non new stuff like the mocap (new meaning newly remade, not stuff not present in the original) is massively enhanced, the new models have taken the exact same mocap work and made it look like it was recaptured. I think the #1 point in this review is the comparison to other media. Video games, even to “true gamers” or whatever, still aren’t treated as art the way books, movies, and music are. If they were, perfectly executed remakes like this would be celebrated; art direction would be ranked higher priority; rereleases with more content would be celebrated. Are they cash grabs? Yes. Are they the fruits of passionate labor? Most (some? Probably less than I’d like) of the time, also yes.
@MrKing-qd7gi2 жыл бұрын
"Perfectly executed remakes like this". Are you talking about TLOU "remake"? If it was perfect you wouldn't hear so much backlash. I love this game deeply but this is not even a proper remake. It's the exact same game with just enough work put in to where they could just barely get away with calling it a remake. This in my eyes is a glorified remaster. Art is subjective, yes TLOU is art as pretty much all games are considered art whether you think so or not. However the act of "remaking" (or remastering) doesn't make it more artistic. In fact, it lost some of that artistic value when it did this, at least for me. It no longer feels like pure passionate decisions but more like "just push out what we think they should like" kinda art which is harder to love. The effort really matters. Nier Automata broke into mainstream because it was made by a guy (and team) who just loved it and legitimately thought people wouldn't like it but made it anyways because it's just what he wanted, him and his team are great artists. It paid off because you can feel the passion boiling out of every inch of that game and it just does things no other games do in multiple layers. I wonder what it would have been if he knew it would have gotten big like that, better or worse? Anyways. Sorry for the rant.

@@foxygramp_1973 Lets forget about TLOU for the sake of this example. So you're telling me if I make a game, then after releasing it I decide that I'm going to make the exact same game but in a different engine the exact same way with litterally everything being the same to the point where you couldn't tell a difference, that is a remake? If that's the definition of a "video game remake" then that's still a stupid thing to pay $70 for. I'm pretty sure that's not what 90+% of people would consider a remake. Sure TLOU1 "remake" may not be as extreme as my example but it definitely doesn't feel like a full blown remake. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a full blown remake. TLOU1 "remake" is a remaster when compared to that. People wouldn't be divided if there wasn't an issue and frankly, TLOU fans are probably the most hard headed because the game is actually good. Regardless of if you pull the dictionary out, the "remake" being sold as a new game (new experience) is kinda BS.

Two notable differences stand out with the RoboCop box set comparison. First is that you're buying something physical that will look nice displayed on your shelf, especially if complementing your collection. (Seriously doubt you'd be paying that amount for something digital.) Second is that you're far more likely to rewatch one of your favorite movies every couple of years than you are to replay one of your favorite games. For most this will be a one and done deal. Is it worth $70 to revisit a game you've already played (and possibly even replayed) just because it has nicer graphics?

We all know know how much games cost, especially remakes / remasters of games that are a number of years old. TLOU is not special in this regard, it should cost the price these older games normally cost. This is simply a mere exercise of taking more money from the fans, because they are prepared to pay any price. It is shameful.

It's not complex. Does this game fundamentally change our perception of what Last of Us (OG/Remaster)? No. Does this game transform the visuals of LoU OG/RM? No. Is there any added story, lore, or discernable game content compared to OG/RM? No. Then it's not worth $60. It was never going to be worth $70 after the highly divisive sequel, but it's not worth $60 and barely worth considering at $50. If you've never played LoU in your life, and want to see what the fuss is about, $70 is a bit steep, but that's what PS5 games are going for. If you've played this game even once on a previous port, this is a generous $40 game, an understandable $45 game, and a high-end $50 game. Paying any more than $50 is robbery

Years later I bought last of us 2 on the ps5, I don’t remember why I never got on ps4 but getting it on ps5 was the better move. The ps5 is provides a much more seamless experience for the game. So I’m not gonna get this game? Yeah probably. But I know the experience from back to front so I’m not getting this game anytime soon. To me last of us has been a series that I feel provides a gaming experience I want to know like a book I’ve read over and over again. If people are willing to pay for Netflix just to watch friends or Seinfeld then for me personally I’m willing to spend 70 bucks to have a new and improved last of us.
