I can't tell you what The Last of Us is worth to you, but I can tell you that this is anything but a lazy cash grab. No one will doubt the earnestness with which Naughty Dog sought to honour the legacy of this game, or the fans who love it so.

Not sure how you can honestly recommend this. First and foremost this is the last of us to real fans. Not last of us part 1. Anyway this game is just a very expensive cash grab. The game already looked amazing and stunning and none of this was needed. You can barely tell the difference except in cutscenes. 70$ is not justifiable for what they spent hell not even 20$. Finally naughty dog after the last of us 2 debacle lost all credibility because of how bad the "sequel" was and what they did to people sharing details of the leak. This isn't worth it at all

Everyone knew The Last of Us 1 is a brilliant game, the quality was never in question. If it was 40 dollars, we wouldn't even be here discussing. The problem here is that they are charging 70 DOLLARS for updated graphics on a game that already had a remaster before. Buying this game sets a dangerous precedent for the industry. How can people find THIS acceptable but moan and whine when EA charges 70 dollars for FIFA? Or Todd Howard charges 60 bucks for the 5th version of Skyrim.

I don’t disagree, but for some people, this is a brand new game they haven’t experienced. It’s hard to say what is “right” and what isn’t, so obviously if the price is unreasonable, buy it when it is cheaper. That is my plan, but I can’t really attack Naughty Dog for charging the price of new game for something that can very well be a new game for some and definitely a new experience, even for veteran players. If people don’t buy, the price will reduce more quickly. I will happily keep my PS4 version until the price comes down, and if it doesn’t, I just don’t buy it. Not sure how this will affect the industry, more will be revealed.

I love TLOU. I bought the game full priced on PS3, the remaster on PS4, then bought it digitally for $10 after i gave my physical copy to a friend. Unlike part 2 I can replay thus game over and over. I WANT this remake. But not for $70. To anyone that is ok with it more power to you but i've played this game enough times and enough time hasn't passed were I'm nostalgic for an old game updated to look new. So i'll wait for next year's Summer sale and see what the price is then. My backlog of games means I won't need this game again for a while and I just replayed the remaster in May. Update: after watching more reviews over the last 24 hours did anyone else notice a lot of them hit a point where they say "Whether these changes are worth it to you we can not say?" Maybe if I saw it in one or two reviews it wouldn't be noticeable but there are enough reviews where they almost say the same thing it seems like it was a condition in order to get a review copy. It's not just me is it?

@@saniakshay12 the issue is. You are being ripped off for that. There is no way this should $70, on any platform. How can anyone defend that. Its $10 more than the original launch was... "rebuilt from the ground up"? Maybe if the ground was already a mountain top... Removing the MP mode and asking for more? The game is superb we all know this. The issue is what this pricing says. We can remake old games and remove content make it look pretty then ask for MORE than when it was new. This is flat out a remaster as well not a remake. Sony having to say this isn't a rip off tells you its a rip off for new or old fans. Great game. Scummy pricing. Sony will get away with it though.

I've already bought the game twice first on PS3 and then again on PS4. As much as I believe the game is a masterpiece and everyone should experience it, I never finished it on the PS4. My second attempt at a playthrough made me realise that the gameplay is just too outdated and as I already know the story, the gameplay wasn't enough to sustain me for more than a few hours. This is why I enjoy your reviews. You give honest, tangible feedback and thoroughly explain how you came to your conclusions. The "Robocop" comparison is brilliant in addressing the emotional connection to a product and how it impacts our perception of value. This is a fantastic game and I recommend everyone play it... just not at $70. Logically, this would tell the industry they could continue to give us less and charge more as long as they hit us in the feels. This game at this price point is not equivalent to an IP built specifically for this generation of gaming releasing at the same price point. Personally, $60 should remain the ceiling for new titles with physical release, especially in this digital world with higher profits for publishers.

I think $50 to $70 is a good price range for AAA games. If the game truly deserves it then yeah $70 lets go for it. But I don't like them abusing the $70, titles like NBA2K and the Madden Games are going for $70 when they really should be sticking to $50.

I would not mind the $70 if it was a good game. But i feel like the gaming industry is just so risky atm for a $70 buy. So many games ask for this price but have cut content, miss features, bad stories you name it. And i am not even talking about battlepasses, cash shops and any other monetization ways. It is just so hard to know if a game will live up to the quite large spend (for most people) of $70. So ye i mostly opt out of games that cost this much. The best solution, make games with expansions. Sell your game for 40/50 and release an expansion for 20/30 (pretty much like monster hunter does). This way you get the price from people and it does not feel like such a high price.

Here me out here : I believe that remasters and remakes are rarely for the fans and more for the people who missed them the first time around, either because they didn't own the console or they were too young (we're talking about a nearly 10 years old game here). I'm a big fan of the Last of Us serie, but I have no intention of buying this. In my memories, the PS3 version looks the same as the PS5 version because at the time, it was some of the best graphics around and "best graphics" is what my brain remembers. I am still happy that this game exists. Games are very costly to make these days and I much rather they make their extra cash by rereleasing old games than filling their games with micro-transactions.

You never hesitate to throw executives under the bus for their greed - NFTs, microtransactions, cash shops, etc. Here we have a whole-ass studio offering a mediocre remaster posing as a full-on remake, and charging $70 for it, and you're going with the "balanced approach" because it just so happens to be one of your favorite pet developers.

I played TloU on PS3 and PS4. It is one of the best games I've ever played. But that being said, I wasn't that much of a fan of the second game. Graphically and mechanically, it was amazing, but the ending killed the whole story for me. The fact that they haven't implemented any of the gameplay changes and cut the multiplayer out is a major dealbreaker for me. Also, all the Accessibility-features might be cool, but let's be real, a pretty big chunck of thr players won't actually use any of them, so they aren't a real selling point to me. Two notable differences stand out with the RoboCop box set comparison. First is that you're buying something physical that will look nice displayed on your shelf, especially if complementing your collection. (Seriously doubt you'd be paying that amount for something digital.) Second is that you're far more likely to rewatch one of your favorite movies every couple of years than you are to replay one of your favorite games. For most this will be a one and done deal. Is it worth $70 to revisit a game you've already played (and possibly even replayed) just because it has nicer graphics?

@@mister-pinkman He’s old and a brute but can still run from clickers, deliver crushing melee blows, fight off two men and torture them later on, can swim underwater and take out a whole hospital of fireflies. Do you realize how stupid it is to justify the remake not having the option to go prone or dodge by saying he’s old and a brute? As for changing the level designs, it doesn’t take much to add very short grass in some areas so Joel can go prone and stay hidden like Ellie could in Part II, and also make cars alittle higher to have enough space to go under them like Part II also had. One employee from Naughty dog came out and said that he hated that people are calling this a cash grab and that it was some of his finest work yet, well then Naughty Dog should’ve treated it like it was their finest work yet.
@mister-pinkman
@mister-pinkman 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnjoseph6874 just adding grass and making cars taller wouldn’t do much, yeah you’d be able to prone and hide under cars but the levels are significantly smaller than part 2, and in part 2 the entire levels are literally designed around Ellie’s moveset. It would just feel weird. Just like in Twin Snakes when they added things from mgs2 into mgs1. The level designers didn’t have those new mechanics in mind when being made. Plus I’m not lying when I said it would eliminate a lot of tension. There was much less tension in part 2 because she could just dodge away from any attack endlessly, hide in grass and lose the enemy endlessly, and stealth kill clickers through out the whole game cause she has a knife. I like the gameplay in part 2, but part 1 has a lot more tension when running for your life because you can’t just rely on dodging everything, you can’t stealth kill clickers without a shiv which needs crafting from resources, and you can’t resort to tall grass when being caught. I understand it’s a preference, but I think the improved ai and gunplay makes the game more fun to play. (Yes, the gunplay does feel significantly better. It feels like part 2’s shooting) I’m not saying it’s worth $70 but I do think it’s the definitive way of playing this game.
@johnjoseph6874
@johnjoseph6874 2 жыл бұрын
@@mister-pinkman First off, I just wanna apologize for being a dick, sometimes when I have a strong opinion, I try my best to get my point across and sometimes it’ll come off as aggressive. I need to work on that. And I actually agree with what you said about killing a clicker with a shiv vs in Part II where Ellie has a knife. That, I like that they kept that in the game. It makes the clickers even more of a threat than they already are. But for me, the dodging is a different story. Like I said, they could’ve easily made dodging just affect the humans, because it makes more sense since Joel is a hardened survivor who can predict the swings while infected attack rapidly with no strategy. In my opinion, having to perfectly time dodging while someone is swinging a pipe at you and than having to attack after is much more intense instead of just repeatedly bashing the square button, which will work, but only after the enemy finishes their series of attacks. There’s nothing you can do before that to prevent Joel from dying. As for prone, it was already pretty weird for the first game to not have prone. Sure it wouldn’t change much, but the changes I mentioned to level design would’ve made it a welcome addition in my opinion. It’s just something they should’ve added to give this remake even more of a reason to exist in the first place.

Thanks for the review. Sounds interesting enough to pick up if it's on PSPlus. Won't pay full price for it though. I can totally understand why die hard fans would and there's nothing wrong with it because apparently this is many things, but a lazy paintjob it is not. I would like to disagree on the stoic faces part though in the original version though. Yes, from what you show on the remaster there's a lot more emotion in characters like Tess for instance. But I wouldn't consider this necessarily the instantly right choice to make. While the original version surely had a more stoic face because of technical limitations what we ended up getting pretty much also played a role in defininig the character. I took her stoic face less to be a result of technical limitations but actually her having toughened up in this post apocalyptic world which goes well in line as how her character is written overall. Showing an a lot more emotionally fragile face for her creates a bit of a disconnect with my innitial understanding of the character. I'm fully aware that this is my own reading of the character and that the creators from the get go wanted Tess to be like she is now. But sometimes your original version creates a life of it's own which fans will take as the de facto defining traits of the character and to change it later does not necessarily resonate well with everyone. Most prominent example for this concept would be "Han shot first".

At least the PC version, I assume, will allow me to use mouse and keyboard so I can get that quickness and precision lacking in a game stuck with a console controller. TLoU combat was clunky and a lot of that was because the aiming was just god awful in terms of speed and accuracy. Analogue thumbsticks just do not compare to keyboard/mouse. That'll have far more affect on combat than anything else. If the PC version also gets more graphical options/upgrades, all the more reason to get that version if any version at all.

Im also waiting for the PC version. Its why I'm not upset as much as everyone else about the remake because once a game comes to PC its basically preserved forever unlike on console where once the new console comes out its dead unless it gets ported to the new consoles. I'll be able to go and play it 20 years down the road with a completely new PC and still have it look good and run well. I'm going to try to pick it up day one because imo its worth it for me. I genuinely love the game. I am super excited for it and Part 2 whenever that comes to PC.

Sometimes those ladder moments help me reflect on my thoughts about the events that happened before and how I feel about them now as I grow older with the game. This is a game where you play a villain without realizing it. Joel is a brutal man that makes selfish decisions, but its incredibly human, tragic, and downright harrowing at the same time. Would you damn the world for someone you love? In the moment, when it comes to choosing your world, your heart or the everyone else, what decision would you make? All I'll say is the greatest remake of a game and one of the best games of the last/current generation, Resident Evil 2 was 39.99€ at launch and that was built completely from the ground up besides the characters and story. Personally I don't think this is worth the asking price at 79.99€. I'll probably pick it up at some point in a deep sale. I hope most people wait for a sale and not shell out full price for this. Doing so will only embolden the current leadership of PlayStation that they can get away with such predatory practices. We've already seen so many of them implemented this generation.

I don't know how relevant that question is. I think people question the $70 price tag because that's a decision Sony made that doesn't feel necessary. Whether or not you personally want to play the game would call into question if TLOU remake even deserves to exist. I think it does for audiences that haven't experienced it or love the game enough to warrant the purchase. It you don't want to play the game again, though, that's perfectly fine, but I don't think it has much weight on the game itself or the price.

I absolutely adored TLOU Remastered. It's one of the few games I've platinumed. But here's the thing: the asking price of TLOU Part 1 is the same as a brand new, made-from-scratch AAA, even though Part 1 is *not* brand new. They're recycling a lot of the original game (code, story, art, design, music etc). Yet going by the asking price, they're suggesting that the same amount of creativity, time & effort went into making Part 1 as the original/a new AAA game. This is clearly not true. The remake also doesn't even have the great Factions multiplayer mode that was in the original! I think there'd be far fewer complaints if they just offered some kind of upgrade path for people who own the Remaster. As it is, I think they're simply being greedy. I'll probably get it when it goes on a deep sale in a few years.

I have mixed feelings on it because I love part 1. Those facial animations are well done, the combat seems similar, but things like grabbing enemies and holding at gunpoint seem to be improved or more clearly and smoothly indicated and/or integrated into more seamless gameplay. I think people are mostly upset that they didn't make Joel more agile, (like Ellie and Abby's gameplay in part 2) which would have taken more overhaul of the game and they would have needed to change entire areas to fit a new player maneuver path. I personally could overlook it if they actually gave us a good post part 1 game (before the abysmal part 2 events...) maybe a 1.5 and incorporated everything about the combat system into it. There are ways to please the fans, if they actually want to do that, you know, and not listen to loudmouthed feminists who are obviously not the primarily consumer or fanbase. And have no business telling the rest of us what entertainment we should be enjoying.

It's most likely priced at the target market: it's for PS5, and most people can't buy a PS5 right now. the PS5 install base is full of Sony hardcore fans that all bought their console at much higher than MSRP. and there is a very good chance that they loved The Last of Us, so they will gladly pay higher than reasonable price to get it for a native game for the console they overpaid.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition was sold for 40 dollars. It had new graphics, the entire multiplayer suite including the dlc maps, and the five story chapters that were originally PC exclusive. Excuse me while I roll my eyes at paying 70 dollars for a remake that isn't even a complete version of the experience released in 2013. And anyone who does, no matter how much they love the game, is paying more money for less content. The Left Behind DLC being included should be expected, not praised.
