Personally being a Suzuki guy, I think you scored a clean bike! You have every single stock component on the quad besides plastics. All things that need replacing are so minor. You have to apply your learning forward to better know what you are buying - its your responsibility to always know what you are getting. Painting that bike up and doing a few bandaid fixes doesn't undo the fact that that quad needs a complete rebuild.

idk how that thing can even breath with that muffler it looks like a dinosaur and it probably has 5 lbs of spooge in it, try taking it off and see how hard it is to blow threw. if its clogged burn it out with a blow torch, hammer lightly and try compressed air. had to do this with my jr50 after it wouldn't move and now it runs like a top.

If you have no clue, what to look for with a used dirtbike or quad, dont test it, before buying, you end up with a piece of crap like this. Everything that was wrong with this quad, were things you could have noticed before buying it. I wouldn't put any money into it, just strip it and sell the parts.

I had one of those late 80's 290, single cylinder, motor blew, had it rebuilt, bought new plastics, got it back together, got it running, shifter then broke, fixed it, then clutch cover cracked, sent motor out to deck and plane it again, back together, then it cracked again. Finally said fuck it and junked it. Mine was the fourstroker

The quad racer has potential it would be a nice quad restored but it will cost you some cash and time but tbh I'd get it running decent and move it on down the road to someone that wants to put the time and love in it needs and find you a nice 86-89 Honda trx250r but you will pay for a good one but they are great atvs and second to none handling and reliability hands down the best atv ever built

For a $1000 u got a great quad bud. Strip it down build it from the ground up it will be a awesome machine. I would love to find one for a $1000 i would buy A arms shocks front and rear. Go through the entire engine port polish the cylinder. FTZ exhaust new carb. Either air striker with power jet added or electron. Just take ur time building it ur gonna have a machine better than u can buy new today. A diamond in the rough u got it for the right price to be able to build it right. U know the LT250r is the lightest performance quad ever made. I put it at top right there with the honda 250r.

Make sure there are no air leaks around the smaller studs by the power valve on the cylinder they are known to suck air there. These quads also have terrible bump steer. Push down on the front grab bar and watch the tires both Point outward badly makes for ill handling. These quads were also known for cracking the frame by the foot pegs.

First time I blew it I had a lean mix & it was hot out that day too. Second time was winter I didn't let it warm up fully & got it wide open in the freezing rain locked it up I was like wtf I just got it rebuilt not tooo long ago. After it got fixed & I had the right mix I was actually happy with it. It would start first second kick, Idle all day. It astually got a lil bit attention..lol I heard a guy say ( wow a lt250 that runs rite & looks decent) Ibsold it shortly after to get a banshee🙄

Rig it up, Get rid of it. Save up for the TRX250R theres a reason nobody likes the LT.They just break man no way around it.Weak crank case,etc etc Edit definitely stay away from the Kawi T4 too they were even worse,but they have a huge curious following and if you do feature a Tecate 4 you will get alot of views because there isn’t much out there on them and you could really go in depth on them.
