Great video! If you’re in a pinch, you can also just use straight water (distilled preferably). The concentrate just keeps the water from freezing, and helps dry up the water quicker. Other than that, straight water works just as well ✌🏼

Agreed! Remember though, for long term we risk clogging the water cables and spray heads, so distilled otherwise

I'm pretty sure that concentrate has no impact on freezing - that's only if you add methanol according to the chart on the back of the bottle. It seems to be a common misconception but I think it's just due to wishful thinking.

Distilled water is now about 1.39 a gallon and dollar tree has windshield washer fluid ready to go for 1.25.

Let's see...to make 55 gallons of standard -20F fluid for winter you need 19 gallons of methanol. Granted Amazon might not be the cheapest for methanol due to "free" shipping, but the best I can find is $34/gallon. So that's $646 in methanol plus another $36 for distilled water, total of $682. Add the cost of the WW concentrate of $22 and now you're at $704. For 55 gallons that comes to $12.80 per gallon. So actually much more expensive than what you get at the store. That is, assuming the store fluid actually won't freeze down to -20F. So for summer use I agree this is a deal. For winter...nope, no way no how.

Good breakdown 👌 I'm not qualified to speak on a snow blend solution, but it may be possible to find the ingredients for less, or even alternatives to methanol, or local sellers. Sounds like more of a headache to make a snow blend tbh

@@Striker50_ I'm thinking isopropyl alcohol should work and would probably be cheaper. Will research that.

Do you worry about the fluid staining your car? I have a white car and Im hoping to it doesn't cause staining in the watered down form.

Nope, keep in mind it's diluted with the entire gallon of water

I presume u can also use IPA AS WELL VS METHANOL.
@Striker50_7 ай бұрын
I personally don't have experience with those mixtures since I don't live in cold climates. I would assume IPA can damage the rubber seals on the windshield, but if the water dilutes it enough, perhaps it can be ok
