Oil on spark plugs means old valve cover gasket. Replacement is a relatively easy DIY job.

My old spark plugs look very similar when I change them. I think they're fine. The oil at the bottom of the spark plug well is a hint to get your valve cover gasket replaced. This is a rubber gasket and it stiffens into hard plastic with time. Then it starts to sip through into the spark plugs and outside the engine.

Change valve cover gasket (with spark plug hole gasket rings or center piece) and all is good. It's way easier on E39/E46 than it was on my F10 530d... Although mine is a diesel and I don't have sparkplugs, but I have glowplugs and injectors, F10 requires a crap ton of work (relatively speaking) just to get to the valve cover and remove it.

@@luckgrip252 I've had it changed about a year ago and I suspect they didn't remove the plugs so the oil has been sat on top of the plugs since then
