I’ve been enjoying my 02 for 53 years. I got it when I was 16 years old. The 02 has been heavily modified over the years. As you have found out, the twisty canyon roads are where the fun is. I started out with suspension mods, lowered springs, 22mm and 19mm sway bars, front decamber plates, front lower control arm spacers, Bilstein struts and Koni shocks. The body received turbo style flares accommodating 15x7 BBS wheels with Toyo Proxes R1R tires. The engine has high compression pistons, headers, and electronic fuel injection. I considered the S14 swap but felt the M10 was more true to the character of the car so I’m giving up 40-50 hp for the sound and feel of an M10. The 4 speed transmission was replaced with the ubiquitous 320i 5 speed and got a Sachs sport clutch in the process. Brakes are the 320i vented rotors with Volvo calipers in front and 320i rear drums along with a Tii master cylinder. I can’t imagine a car I’d rather drive than this one. As a retired independent BMW shop owner, I still do my own work unless a hoist is required.

Congratulations! My buddy had the same car back in the 80s. He used to laugh at my MGB which I still own. That BMW was an awesome machine and I'm sure it will grow on you. It's really not that bad. Looking forward to watching you bring it to its former glory! Enjoy!!!

There are big BMW clubs in the US and Canada. Join one and you'lll be surprised how easy it is to get parts. I also had a 75 2002...upgraded the motor, suspension, body was in great shape, had the sun roof like yours...you'll like that when it's fixed. You'll never sell that car.

I bought a '69 2002 a bit over a year ago. It was a rust-free Arizona car, but I am envious yours is running/driving as my motor was completely seized. Its completely rebuilt now sitting on a stand, but I still have yet to experience what its like to drive one of these cars, and still a lot of work ahead before the engine is ready to go back in.

Still have some parts from that 1600-2 including the vin plate, and pink slip just in case I wanted to rebuild it using a car from 1976, which seem less saute after here in California.... yea smog laws ruined every thing here... .lol
