Oregon is the other state where you are not allowed to pump you own gas (unless they've changed the law in the last year or two, don't think so). But at least on a motorcycle, the attendant will come out, turn the pump on then hand you the hose nozzle to fill the bike, then you hand it back to him, and he hangs it back up. This was so eye opening for me. Loved every bit of it. I've owned a classic Yamaha triple but was always too afraid to venture farther than maybe 45 minutes away from my home with it. I'm in Colorado. Do you ever feel a sense of uncertainty or danger when doing a trip like this? Are you able to fully relax while on said trip? That is something I wish I could feel.
@ihutch924 ай бұрын
I guess there’s always a little uncertainty, but to an extent, that’s the case you leave home on any bike! I guess the worst case scenario is my bike breaks down and can’t repair it. Even if I’m fair from home, I guess I just get towed to somewhere I can rent a UHaul and then drive back. Which would suck, but I wouldn’t let that dissuade me from getting out there! Breakdown is always a possibility with an older machine, but travel with tools and know how to use them and you’ll probably be fine. :)
@serge9334 ай бұрын
I guess what I meant to ask was more in terms of how safe do you feel riding for that long? I have this constant worry while riding that I will get hit, after a few years of riding it’s still there. It keeps me from riding as much as I really want to, at least here in the US since we have pretty bad drivers. As far as the bike goes, I’m less worried but I do know that a breakdown is definitely always possible. Probably the worst would be breaking down in a bad part of town. Luckily I’d probably rent a car and a small U-Haul moto trailer and bring it back home that way
@ihutch924 ай бұрын
@@serge933 It's healthy to have a little fear, otherwise you get complacent. But I guess I don't every feel enough fear to stop me from going anywhere! Sticking to backroads helps too, since there's less drivers around I guess.

@ihutch923 ай бұрын
The compression ratio for the R65 is juuust enough to need a bit better than 87, so I usually go for midgrade to make sure there’s no risk of pinging. And the elastic bands are elastic marine cover loops! I just drilled holes in the top of the cases, added some glue, and they’re perfect for it. wait a minute as a lifelong jersey resident... One hand is for the lever, the other you lift that thingamajig on the nozzle and hold it, its really not that hard, just have to get used to it. And wait for an attendant? no, only if he has to put his card in the pump but otherwise most of them let you pump your own gas (but i get off my bike when i pump my gas, not sure if you do that). As for the roads, you have to go west....yeah east jersey sux.

Is it possible that I'm just dumber than the system? Absolutely, 100% lol. Mostly I was just grumpy because I had to wait for like 5 minutes at one station for somebody to come by with a card haha.

I've got a 86 model, monoshock with 60k on the clock! Rides beautifully, but feels sketchy on the highway, with the back almost twinging above 70. Curious to know if the handlebar on yours is a bit wider than mine. Great vids mate!

I have the “low euro” bars on mine, which is think are lower and wider than the traditional, more upright bars. I think that probably does help a little bit with stability at highway speeds!

It shouldn't be doing that - check your rear drive! Put the bike on the centerstand, take a grip of opposite sides of the tire and try to wiggle it by pushing on other side and pulling on the other. If there's any noticeable play on any position, your rear drive bearings are toast.

Sorry why you switch off the bike? I think that is a bit risky

It’s only NYC, once you outside of the city boundaries, you can do right turn on red.

If i remember correctly, they’re Rev’it Mosca Urban gloves. They run a little small fwiw, but they’re good summer gloves. :)

Riding in the city has a flow, you get used to it. Typically you're not moving more than 17mph anyhow and it's a lot of stop and go, so to me it seems better than some suburbs where people are flying by in a minivan going 65 in a 30.
