Great ride Chase! To the people watching this, I've ridden 10hr trips six times on my Z400. Considering how these 2 bikes perform the same: 1. These engines are capable of cruising at 100mph 6th gear 6000RPM. It will be noisy at this RPM so stick a silencer or two on if you ride them daily. 2. For wind resistance, I never understood why this is such a big deal to people. Just buy earplugs and wear a proper jacket and you're all set. For the winter (i see you UK friends) buy heated grips and wear double or triple layers. You'll always feel the wind unless you buy a whole ass BMW 1250GS windscreen on your supersport. 3. Regarding back pain: A. the wind helps you lift your body. B. The 450SS is a bit more leaned forward than the Ninja/Z400 so I can't comment on how long you'll last but on my Z400(has the exact same ergos as the Ninja) it never bothered me. 4. I don't understand the cruise control issue, it's not a deal breaker and should never be a deal breaker unless you have a wrist condition which most of us don't. Again i've ridden 10hr trips with 5hrs of those on the expressways. I never felt hurt.
@JSDFEnthusiast10 ай бұрын
Practically everything I thought of when I took a 10 hour ride on my 300SS. I just squeeze my legs against the tank to hold myself upright more and it made my back a lot lighter. I was running the engine at 70mph pretty consistently and it was a bit noisy but it could totally handle it. Cruise control is cool but I found myself enjoying taking turns and throttling out in the straight aways more fun the entire ride than just riding at 55mph for 10 hours lol. I have a friend who owns a 450SS and it's about the same story, they're great bikes but believe me, STRETCH beforehand.

The Z400 100% does NOT go 100mph at 6k rpm. more like 9500 rpm or 10500. I cruise at 80 on the highway and my N400 stays around 7800 rpm.
@DenvarShay10 ай бұрын
100mph at 6k rpm on a 400 🤣 did you mix up the 6 with the 9 key? Even then...should be more like 9500-10,000 unless you have a tiny rear sprocket

I'm glad you still have this bike and are still making movies with it. They're an interesting company and a lot of the CF coverage has fallen off lately. I kinda want the CL-X sport as a 2nd, who-gives-a-s**t bike. I found one new to try and it has no business being as nice as it is for $5800. If they made a proper SS, I'd have that. That 450's style with their 700 P2 is a done dealy bob for me.

Just picked up a used 2023 cfmoto 450ss. Had to ride it 5 hours from Maine back to Vermont, all though I never went on the highway, jsut rode routes the whole way. It did fantastic, and yes the handlebars do hurt a bit, but if make sure to take the weight off your wrists, and take breaks every hour or so, it wasn't all that bad, and was actually enjoyable. I have an exhaust on mine, so it was wayyy to loud, so in the future I will make to have some earplugs. But other than that, it handles amazing, is smooth, and the gearing is perfect for going through towns and getting up to speed when needed. Frickin love the thing. And mostly, it looks sick af.

in the last week I've ridden my Gen 5 Honda VFR 800 on a 600 km (370 miles) trip. It was a great trip from the perspective of gaining confidence as to what the bike can handle and it was sooooooooo much fun (so I'd definitely recommend that people do something like that more regularly). I was also picking up a new (to me) Honda ST1100 Pan European and left the VFR at a friend's house so I have wheels for when I fly down for a visit. I'm lucky in that I don't seem to get sore wrists or back / lumbar from being crouched over but even so ... WHAT A DIFFERENCE FOR TOURING - the ST1100 just eats up the miles with ease! The high windscreen means no more wind-noise (I have sensitive ears). The sitting position means no sore butt! The paniers and top box mean no more sore back (from the rucksack). And I've been using it as a daily rider and can still happily filter through traffic. I'm absolutely sold. The VFR is so versatile and I will always love it - but while the VFR is a rocket, the ST1100 is a cruise missile! I had to stop about 4 times with the VFR stretch out my glutes. With the ST1100 I stopped twice for gas and a toilet break - otherwise I'd just have done it all in the one go! The only problem is now I'm wondering if I should have gone for a Kawasaki ZG1400 for a few more mod-cons! 🤣🤣 While people tend to get caught up in the testosterone driven lust for a crotch-rocket ... I'd definitely say that if you're commuting or touring just go for a tourer with bags and designed for all-day riding.
@OpeoAslam10 ай бұрын
That windscreen probably needs a little kick up or flare up at the top to help guide the air over you a little better. I guess a touring windscreen like you mentioned would have that.

1:57 Weight doesn't really matter. The main force that you're overcoming while moving on the road in any vehicle is air resistance. In fact, air resistance will be over 95% of the force that you need to overcome. Mass is not a factor when we're calculating air resistance. With that said, even that is actually minuscule when we're talking about fuel consumption, because by far the biggest fuel waster is going to be heat. Internal combustion engines are incredibly inefficient, less than 30% of the fuel is actually used for moving the vehicle. The rest is mostly going to be heat, which again doesn't care about your weight.

Regarding the apparent discrepancy between the indicated mpg and your actual figure; are you sure that the trip computer is set to US gallons rather than the larger imperial gallons? Especially the rock hard stock Dual Sport Tires which waunder all over the place in more than slight lean. I decided to switch to full street Shinko ($80 each) tires of the same 21" x 18" front/back, same sizes.. Huge Improvement in Lean Stability (Smooth/Quieter, no washboard), with a very minor waundering remaining. Easily compensated for by adjusting my control gain. No issue now, but if I get a wild hair, next steps would likely be a matching 18" front wheel/tire, then maybe drop the forks an inch or so, maybe up fork oil viscosity with some 30W oil like the old days?
