Tips from someone who has gone from Black to platinum for almost 10 years: 1: The dish soap is what fucked up your hair the most, you can try this method without it and it will work, just slower. But its better to try the vitamin C one, a lot less damaging and better results. Also keep in mind that if your hair is super bleached and kinda damaged already this things are very risky. THERE IS NO DAMAGE FREE WAY, THEY ALL DO AT LEAST A BIT. 2: If your hair is so damaged is gummy and crumbling CUT IT OFF. Trust me I know it hurts and I have literally cried having to basically shave my entire head but nothing can recover that hair no matter what, if you want you can cut some, wait a month max for growth and keep cutting so you dont lose much lenght. 3: If your hair is reaaaally bad but its not gummy yet, COCONUT OIL OMG. Its life changing! I soak my hair fully for an hour or two once every week or two and then wash it, and I also use a drop on the very tips of my hair when I style it. Also protein! make sure to include it always. 4: Try to get away from any heating tool, any progress that you may have in reparing its basically getting fried back from heat. If you must, ALWAYS use a heat protectant. 5: Know your hair! Know when to stop! Sometimes we want something that its not achievable without ruining our hair, or at least not in very little time. You have to consider your texture, previous damage, dryness, if your hair is thin or not, etc and make the decision from that. If you see someone on instagram or youtube doing something it doesnt mean that its gonna work the same in your own hair.

I have 2c/3a curls and did the baking soda and dandruff shampoo method and it didn't do anything to the colour but it FRIED my hair. It didn't break but it felt like a hay wig. I did oil treatments and masks and olaplex. Once my hair was back to life enough I did dandruff shampoo and crushed vitamin C tablets and it didn't damage my hair at all and worked amazingly. Hope this helps someone ^^

I’m a hairdresser and I’m totally guilty of having tried the at home color removers before I went to school. Dawn dish detergent is so incredibly drying and damaging to hair, which of course i don’t need to tell you now ha. Vets use it to get oil off of animals that have been in oil spills if that gives any idea how stripping it can be. Also the 20 volume developer I don’t really understand. 20 volume would give up to 2 levels of lift theoretically, but it’s supposed to be mixed with bleach or haircolor. I don’t know if it will do anything by itself. Your hair is still absolutely stunning though and I love that color on you so much. ❤️❤️ Next time If you’re not in the market for a color remover, I would try some shampoos with menthol! Tea Tree shampoo by Paul Mitchell is really great at stripping hair. I’ve always used it to strip my color before redoing it, and we’ve used it on girls at work when they dye their hair too bright. (We are only allowed natural hair colors, funnily enough for a salon. We’ve had a few mishaps of girls going too red) and it really helps! It’ll make it dry but not nearly as much as other things might.

I tried the vitamin c tablets mixed with head and shoulders to try and strip out color and my hair felt horrible. Dry, brittle, and took foreverrrr to get back to a state where I could even use heat on it. This was 2 years ago, and my hair has finally grown out to the length it used to be before I tried it- now I’m trying to get my waves back 🤞🤞🤞

Where was this video four months ago!! 😭 I’m glad it’s here now. I have about the type hair as you (wave pattern and thickness wise) and I tried the DIY “safe” color remover to get out some faded red and it did work but but boy hair was destroyed. I ended up cutting it up to my shoulders and dying it brown, but there was still a lot of damage. I’ve been using the Redken Extreme line and Olaplex No. 3 and it has really helped! I’ve been looking into the All Soft mask as well so I’ll definitely be getting it now, might have to look into a chem shot as well 😊 So glad you were able to save your hair!

I totally feel you. I have the same type of hair and tried getting permanent dye out of my hair with the same method - thankfully it was just my ends and not my whole head, but it fried my hair so bad i had to cut them off or theyd compromise the rest of my hair. People who say this method is good because its "without bleach" don't know developer does damage as well. It got the color out of course, but it was so fragile, tangly and messy ,, not worth it imo. would've been better to just bleach it.
@VectorHitomi

I actually tried this method to pull green out of my hair, but I think there was a 5th ingredient that I added in. Developer can, from my understanding, can do damage to the hair as well. I think it's similar to Color Oops, which I've read can dry out the hair as well. I ended up having to use bleach in the end, but managed to avoid what I already had bleached. What messed my hair up was using ammonia "free" bleach, it made my hair go platinum and brittle in 15 minutes and I was going from an auburn color. Freaked the ever loving day lights out of me.

Wow! How scary, so glad it's getting better though! I used to dye my hair with schwarzkopf keratin color & I swear it's almost impossible to remove or lighten without a bleach bath! Luckily doing that didnt damage my hair much, hardly any breakage but after that I finally decided to stop dying my hair & just let it be. I love that you shared your experience with us 😊

Wow, I'm sorry to hear how badly that colour remover concoction ruined your hair! At least you're taking the correct steps to repair it though. I have also used the same colour remover mixture, but with a 10 volume developer instead of 20 vol which you said you used. At the time I first used it, I had dyed my hair with Crazy Color's 'Lavender' which goes on really purple and then washes to a pink. The pink stuck to my hair and just would not fade any more, it just wouldn't budge. This was over a pure white blonde base. When I applied the mixture, I left it in for a good half an hour. If anyone reading this is going to try it, you need to know that when it is on your hair, you do not see any colour change at all, it's only when you rinse it out that the colour comes out. It's very strange! So don't leave it on for longer than half an hour thinking that it isn't working because it really does work. Anyway when I rinsed it off, I had an real moment of panic because a streak sized chunk of my hair came right out of my scalp..it didn't break off, it literally fell out. As you can imagine I thought that all the rest of my hair was going to come out and leave me completely bald!! But that didn't happen and I didn't lose any more hair. There was also no further damage to my hair - it didn't feel dry at all and I didn't have any breakage whatsoever. The second time I used the mixture was to remove Crazy Color's 'Cyclamen' which is a very deep pink. Again, this was over white hair. This time, the mixture removed all the colour with no hair loss or damage at all and took it back to white. So, if you do want to try this, use only 10vol developer and try it on a small section first to see how your hair reacts to it. The results really will depend on your hair texture, the colour you want to remove, how much colour build up you have, how porous or damaged your hair is....you may do well with it like I did (aside from the random clump of hair that fell out) or it may really damage your hair. Always do a test section first!
@Shiiiveeers
@Shiiiveeers 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't trust any DIY recipes from random people with no qualifications in hair. Household ingredients can definitely be damaging - it's way safer to use products formulated by professionals and SCIENTIFICALLY proven to work. Also "damage" is very vague and unscientific, different people could touch the same hair and call it damaged or not, so the results from videos are very unreliable.

I did a bleach bath recently which worked a treat and my hair felt good after, so good i was able to follow it up with a high lift tint and it still is soft and shiny without having to straighten it, and i have wavey hair. Think bleach baths are the way to go for removal, even though it sounds like it should be more damaging, at least bleach is made for hair, dish soap and baking soda sounds like it does more damage then bleach which is kinda surprising?

I had the same EXACT experience! My salonist dyed my hair way brighter than I wanted so I did the DIY YT remover method. Unfortunately I massaged it into my scalp and pretty much burnt my follicles! My hair felt straw like and it came out in huge clumps! I almost died of panic and shock. Thankfully it's been a year of healing and my hair is slowly getting better. Although I now know how to take care of my hair better and not get it done for a while!

I removed Arctic Fox's Poseidon out of my hair with maybe 5 washes (week and a half time span) using only head and shoulders dandruff shampoo. It worked so extremely well that the color appears to have never been there. I tried the vitamin C + dandruff shampoo + 10 (or 20 i dont remember) vol developer method almost 1 year ago when i was trying to get Arctic Fox's poison & sunset orange out of my hair - definitely took the brightness and color out, but my hair felt shitty ngl. I tried it again without the developer and it had the same effect except my hair felt fine. Maybe a little dry but i use hair masks x2 which is why i didn't experience too much dryness. Vitamin C dries tf out of some people's hair. But like I said in the beginning for the least amount of damage done to your hair (including dryness and breakage) dandruff shampoo alone worked great for me.

I am literally watching this, because I tried the same exact 'damage free' color remover.. to fade AF wrath so I can go to AF sunset orange.. I left it on for about 20ish minutes, but it started to smell like drano so I quickly rinsed it.. and now the ends of my 'bangs' feel like mush when they are wet, and feel like hay when they are dry. My waves are now blah, and no where near as wavy and soft as they were, but the rest of my hair feels fine, only breakage is at the ends of my 'bangs'.. which is why I'm here.. a ton of people have already recommended shea moisture, but I've tried it a while back, and it made my hair feel greasy even after rinsing it out completely. so hopefully, I can get my hair back to being healthy.

I don't want to victim blame, but JESUS, this is what happens when cheap asses try to mess with their hair going the inexpensive DIY route. Someone proposed these videos need to not be on KZbin anymore, but NO, YALL NEED TO STOP with the diy cheap shit. I'm not a hair stylist and I'm not a professional, but I have colored and bleached my hair enough to know, that shit doesn't work! I'm just a hair color enthusiast. Literally all you needed to do was either get a color remover that costs like $11, or get a highlift color that's like $6 to bring you back to blonde. But no, you guys are really willing to bring your hair to its death bed then ask yourselves what went wrong.

Idk, what my hair type is, but some of it is tight and frizzy, some is kinky, and some ringlets. You should NEVER brush your hair wet. I have shaved my head to save it, I don't care if you have stick straight hair. DO NOT brush wet hair.

It’s very common for curly women to brush their hair wet with lots of conditioner it in.

I literally only brush my hair wet. If I did it dry it’d be SO tangled and just end up frizzy. I brush it wet with a Denman brush and lots of conditioner, and go gently.
