The neighbor wang thing is actually a joke in China. If someone says you're neighbor wang's kid or something in those lines, it means your mom cheated on her husband with their neighbor Mr Wang and conceived you. Which of course, Mr Wang knows that you're his kid while your father hasn't the slightest clue

@akosbarati22394 жыл бұрын
I never got to ask this before: how do people reconcile (privately) their own personal ambitions of saving face and being the best at the expense of others with the Confucian ideal of selflessness and collectivism?
@TF2CrunchyFrog4 жыл бұрын
@@akosbarati2239 Probably the same way as people in every culture do when faced with internal hypocrisy of proudly claiming ideals while personally or collectively ignoring them: Orwellian double-think.
@akosbarati22394 жыл бұрын
@@TF2CrunchyFrog Well yes, but you see, the "beautiful irony" is that they don't see it as doublethink. I grew up being taught that the once kingdom I lived in bore the brunt of the Ottoman attack while the rest of Europe mainly looked on, sending monetary support. Cool story, bro, until you check the broader spectrum: one, the rest of Europe also a lot of soldiers, while waging a massive naval war (you don't know the name of Barbarossa for nothing) as the endgame of Suleiman wasn't to capture Vienna, but to weaken Charles V, and either ransom the HRE in perpetuity, or capture enough electorates so that he's being crowned as emperor with his wife in tow (who as a Ruthenian bespoke both the oriental and the European beauty ideals). Two, the map of Europe and religion was way more complex. Hungary and Italy sell the fairy tale that just like in the past, now they protect Europe from incoming hordes. That claim bleeds out if you look at the actual map. Some Christian territories in exchange for a fee remained unharmed until 1596 despite Istanbul having been conquered in 1453. Thus, the all encompassing enemy is but a lie. They also bought slaves from vassals of the Ottomans for slave work (in fact, Genoa owned the Crimean slave trade for a long time). Thus, the "Christians banded together to dispell Islam" also falls apart. The Ottomans kept the receipts on how European city states sought the sultan out to initiate raids onto their rival. The crown jewel is the fact that Bourbon France, to counterweight the Holy Roman Empire, held up an alliance with the Ottomans from Louis XIV until the 19th century. Much of the facts I just listed only exist in English history literature, as they don't fit either the glorious or the victimhood history of EE.

Um.. I hope it's not rude to ask this but, What are asian parents usually like? Are they like this or are some like this? And if some are like this, what are the others like?
@wanderingluck65934 жыл бұрын
@@ChaoticallyCosmic The stereotypical asian parents are the ones who thinks everything you do is entitled to them. Every achievement, every hardwork, every good thing is all because of THEM not YOU. Therefore, you must always feel grateful they gave birth to you. They want us to study in high grades and get jobs like Doctors and Lawyers because it's a smart people's job. We don't usually have the courage to speak up because they'll consider it as disobedience and displine us physically and emotionally. But for real tho, most were like this in the past but now not so much where I live in. Children finally get some rights.

Lose face is like the image that you carry around, “your brand.” When someone is meeting you for the first time in China most of the times they will try to carry out the act of “showing face” where they try to be the best host or person to you to gain your respect. I’ve been to China and had an experience like this once, it was life changing and very eye opening for me as a young boy at the time.
