It’s been a little bit longer than expected, but in this episode, I rust treat and prime the rear end on the Subaru. There was a few hiccups along the way, but it’s looking incredible!

Another great video! I can understand your being a bit apprehensive about putting on the primer or doing another treatment, I've felt the same way. The treatment looked like it did well, better than the previous stuff. I saw good color change, enough to where I would have started priming the same time you did! Your videos are equally motivating to us, I'm sure I can't be the only one to have a bit more drive and desire to work on my own project (Forester) after watching your work. A thank you goes out your way as well.

I’m pretty pleased with how it’s turned out, but yeah I was a little apprehensive as I want to make sure I’m doing it right so it lasts more than 5 minutes. The other stuff is probably better suited nuts and bolts where you can fully submerge them. Glad to hear the videos have some value, 2024 might just be the year we turn the key 🤞 Appreciate the comment.

I’m always amazed how detailed the videos are 😂 The rust treatment looked like it was working and it looks a lot better compared to when you first started in the shed. Keep it up!

I’m pretty pleased with the hydrate 80. Time will tell if it actually works though. We’re slowly making progress. Thanks for the comment

Hi Jake, looks like you did a good job removing the rust and then treating converting the small amount remaining (will look into that bilt hamber thanks), plus the red oxide will inhibit and protect the area! I’ve had similar issues with primed parts ‘sweating’ as you’ve had as I’m in a detached garage with no heating, although primer is porous and I’ve not had issue once painted, but strange with powder coat as you say it looked like a fault with the process and I’m pleased that the powder coating shop is sorting the issue for you, nice when business correct their errors. Definitely do the sump with the subframe off, was a sod with the subframe on thanks to the modine cooler on the oil filter, we had to drop the exhaust manifold off in the end! Looking forward to seeing all those nice refurbished and shiny powder coated parts going on this year! Happy new year 🥳 keep up the good graft, definitely beats vegetating in front of the TV and gives the rest of us motivation too! Thanks, Rich 😃

Hi rich, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. The HG stuff may not have worked, but it did help in removing a little extra rust on the second pass of grinding. Opie oils are selling the 500ml bottle of hydrate 80 for £15.29 at the moment. I dropped the parts off this morning, so hopefully they’ll be back later this month, but yeah, I’m glad they’re sorting them as they wouldnt have lasted 5 minutes once on the road. I’m going to get the sump ordered tonight, so hopefully it arrives before the weekend. I remember you mentioning it being a pig, so I thought I’d do it now haha. Me too, 3 years later and I’m finally going to be putting something back on the car! Happy new year to you too 🎉

Hopefully there’s some useful stuff to take away from the videos, but I’m still learning as I go. It would be nice to tear down a 93 you know, and by the time I’ve finished mine, I might actually have an idea of what I’m doing! I’m based in Derbyshire, but lived in Notts for a while so yeah quite close

@@slothgarage Yeh I've learnt loads tbh. Subaru have barely changed anything on the models. If you ever get a new garage give me a shout and we'll work something out. Cheers

Or if you ever want any cash work I'd pay you to take mine apart, I could then sort all the rust and then I could pay you to come back and refit. Just a thought, I can tell you're busy but if you fancied it give us a shout. (It's on axel stands in a dry barn near Bingham) Nice one.

You need to strip the hole car and start from the beginning get it to the bear metal then treat it and fix all the holes and make sure u treat inside the metal that is we’re the rust will eat away the car I’m on the stage of cleaning all underneath then rust treat it primer then raptor it then wax inside might be long but we’ll worth it in the end check the humidity in the shed u might need a humidifier or open the doors control the moisture will help stop more rust coming in the future good luck mate I enjoy watching ur videos

I don’t know about stripping the whole car 😅 I do still need to get some cavity wax for inside the chassis though. I’m also thinking about raptor rather than something like waxoyl that I used last time. I’ll have to get a humidity tester ordered. Appreciate the comment

I've got to get under the rear end of my 05 wrx wagon, I really hope I don't find what you did ! Don't fancy dropping all the rear end on my drive 😂

Mine was in pretty bad shape, so you’ll probably be alright 🤞 just make sure you’re cleaning your arches regularly. Mine were caked in old mud, especially behind the mud flaps!

It's a shame because you can get a jdm shell that's absolutely rust free that's been in Japan all it life in this country for £1200 mb developments have one at the moment.

That’s not bad actually. I’ll have my fun out of it then once it comes to it, I might just go down that route. I’ve taken a lot more care this time around, so hopefully it lasts a little longer
