Congratulations! When I made my dress, I bought a cheap one off of Amazon in the silhouette I wanted, ripped apart all the seams, and used the pieces as the pattern. I remade it with some small modifications in nicer fabric. Good luck!

Interesting about how the Netherlands handles last names. I took my husband’s last name but when I legally changed it, I kept my maiden name as my middle name. I have been glad about that decision, as I feel In keeping both my birth name as well as married name, I combined both phases of my life.

Wow!! Such a heart-warming chat!! With regards to making your own dress, get a tailor's dummy!! to draft/drape your pattern or toile on, and get one that's as close to your size as possible. Or you can make one, there are a few costumers on youtube who've done it. Pro tip: don't waste your money on an adjustable dummy, they fall apart pretty quickly, and you need something that you can stick tons of pins into, so a foam one will work well. Also, I highly recommend you join the Foundations Revealed community, whilst they focus on historical costume, you'll have access to a ton of tutorials on sewing and techniques, and helpful articles with regards to construction of a gown. I imagine you're going for something that Arwen would wear today, right? ;D Would you share your sources for vintage wedding dresses? I'm just curious... I wore my grandmother's dress that I had always loved which had sleeves (which I loved) and got married in December so that I could without overheating (my grandparents were married the last weekend of November so the dress was also very heavy satin) but the neckline was quite low cut so it wasnt super modest!

Congrats!! I hope you have fun. I like when people say traditional, it depends on the country. Sadly today it been very Americanized when it comes to the idea of traditional. In Sweden for example, you talk and went yeah this a good idea or asked the question and then went and picked out the ring together. Then at the wedding the man handed over the wedding bouquet at the church door, it was his gift to the bride and the couple walked in together as sign they equal in front of God. How ever, today people have seen too much Hollywood and wants to be handed over , as ownership goes from the father to the groom. And that is sad, because we had equality.
