AND EAR MITES!!! Don’t underestimate ear mites. Our rescue cats had chronic ear mites and their ears were so destroyed/swollen that the insides were mostly scar tissue. Not only that but the infections that can come from damaged ears can spread to their jaws/gums/teeth, making life painful (and killing them like with our beloved Thomas.)
@talloncusack4 ай бұрын
And when they have ear mites they usually have a bacterial & fungal infection co-occurring…so you need to treat all 3 simultaneously, which is a pain! And the medicine doesn’t work well if their ears are dirty/full of shit so you have to clean them out while they’re all sensitive ugh and it’s obviously gross af with the millions of bugs in there :(
@mightymeatymech2 ай бұрын
@@talloncusack i 'rescued' a cat with ear mites (idk he was just yelling at me so i let him in my house and fed him, and well...) cleaned his ears for months without being able to afford vet care. he hated the cleaning but afterwards he was always soothed for at least a little bit. i surrendered him finally. the reason i didn't do it sooner is because he was old and kind of scruffy and i was afraid they'd just put him down... i really hope he's being loved on right now. EDIT- please don't judge me for taking him in when i didn't have the resources... my landlord threatened to shoot him and i thought if i didn't take him in, no one would. i tried my best to at least make him comfortable and clean his ears a bit.
@talloncusack2 ай бұрын
@@mightymeatymech yeah I don't think those ear mites are a death sentence for him like your landlord is! It does depend on the shelter and whether they're no kill but if you can't afford to take them to the vet, then you did the best you could and you made the right decision by trying to at least help this stray cat however you could (by deciding to hand them off to people who actually have the resources to take care of them). You got them off the street, that's a step.

Sometimes I just feel so depressed knowing there are A LOT of people on this earth who just like to purposefully hurt these animals for entertainment. A lot of cats will sleep under cars though too for shelter. When I was in Phoenix, I seen a cat fall out of the bottom of somebody’s car when I was on the road, it was the most saddest and terrifying things ever and we rescued him and we took them into one of the hospitals that took him in and actually one of the nurses ended up wanting to keep him.

One of my grandmas cats had crawled up into the engine area and obviously she didn’t know and she went to go drive somewhere and unfortunately the cat didn’t make it 😔. Hey, I left this comment on papa's post, but I figured I'd put it here, too: Hey guys, best of luck! My partner and I accidentally took in a pregnant stray cat about 5 months ago. She gave birth to FIVE kittens a few days later and then got very sick shortly afterward. She had to go into the emergency vet for days, I witnessed some of the grossest shit I've ever seen, and she couldn't nurse or take care of the kittens after that. So, we had to start syringe/bottle feeding them and helping them go to the bathroom every 2-3 hours (overnight included) for weeks until it slowly decreased to 3-4, then 4-5 hours, etc until they were old enough to eat wet foot. It's honestly the most exhausting thing either of us ever did, it cost us a ton of money, and was immensely stressful, but they all survived and we felt pretty good, knowing they all would have died in the street if we hadn't found her first. We ended up keeping 3 of the kittens and since we bottle fed them almost from birth, they're the best cats I've ever seen in my life, hahaha. Attached to us at the hip and not afraid of a single human being on earth. Best of luck to you guys; you're gonna end up with a great companion, no matter how much it's prlly hissing at you right now, hahaha. If you guys need any help or pointers or anything, feel free to message me. I haven't watched the video yet, so I'm not sure how old it is, but it can be A LOT with conflicting info on the internet.

I got him and and then another one popped up and it took me like 20 minutes to catch him haha. It was an early morning and a rural country road, no houses near by and the mama didn’t have a collar. I search for another 30 minutes to make sure there weren’t more and I didn’t see or hear any, so I just took the two boys home. Sadly one didn’t make it but I still have my boy, Salem.
