Slide pins on such brake system as ATE should not be lubricated as far as manufacturer suggest. Part of the slide pin is open to air and any dust or contaminant can easily stick to grease and cause even more damage.

Also, because you have a few Euro cars, look into FCPEuro. Not sure if you heard of them before, but almost everything they sell has a Lifetime Warranty, and im pretty sure everything on their website is OEM/OE.

Good job, also black paint dissipates heat faster, but beware of cheap brake pads, you may have problems during extensive heavy braking for example on a hill descent or they may have a longer stoping distance. Not sure about the discs but they may get worn out much faster.
@_-KOEN-_6 жыл бұрын
Changing rear brake pads is usually different. You need a special tool to move the brake cylinder. I messed up he brakes on my vw golf once by doing this without the tool.

You should buy cars for few hundreds fix 'em, and sell for K's, I mean flip cars, and make money on projects. But don't sell audi do auto to manual conversion, 'cause you haven't made a 'vid 'bout 'dat :) big turbo can increase easily your power. 500hp safely. Ot has race style 5 valve head.

If those calipers had been seized it would've been even more .. that's a great save . VW/Audi cars are great when you take care of them but they burn your pocket
@milanmastracci6 жыл бұрын
It did drive fine, but the pads were not contacting the entire rotor, the rotors had a nice lip on them, and the slider pins were not lubricated properly. The brakes needed to be changed no matter which way you look at it. The $1400 is the price I got from my local Audi dealership for replacing the pads and rotors front and back. That is parts and labour

Well you done a good job in this brake and rotors replacement,but you could of made a great and perfect job,by going the extra mile,or extra step by doing the 2 things below: 1-Clean the hub where the rotors set,and not only apply anti seize,or better,remove the rust and paint it,then apply anti seize since you have OCD as you always say. 2-You should of done a brake fluid flush,and make the system got a brand new fluid free of moist or water,as you got a full set for 4 wheels,that would make braking much better.

What are common sounds or indicators of slider pins not lubricated properly? I have had this weird braking sound from my front right wheel for a long time and it drives me crazy
@milanmastracci6 жыл бұрын
You will usually see uneven brake rotor wear from the pad, and you will also see uneven pad wear from inside to outside brake pad. When you remove them, one, if not both, slider pins will be stuck/hard to remove.

Only remove the hard edge from the pad when you are changing just pads and not rotors because the new pads iare touching the old grooves in the discs and create sqeeking noises. When you replace both pads and discs you shouldn't remove the edge because it's both the disc and the pad new so you won't get any noise

i have a 04 vw jetta and i want to change the brakes. i watched chrsfix video about it and he compresed the break caliper. and sins your audi is very similar to my vw. did you compres the caliper or something else or nothing at all?
@MessyWhiteduke6 жыл бұрын
oh love the vids i leared how to instal a head unit from you.
@mannys91306 жыл бұрын
You always need to compress the caliper piston. New pads physically will not fit into the caliper if you don't put the piston back at its innermost position.
@MessyWhiteduke6 жыл бұрын
thx thats what i thought maybe he just forgot to add that step in the vid
@ensom6 жыл бұрын
yupp i have an 03' jetta, don't use a regular c clamp to compress the pistons, especially not for the rear calipers, they must be turned as they are pushed back in. you can borrow the tool to do this for free from autozone, or you can buy the tool for around $20-30 on amazon. it is definitely a necessary tool to do brakes on a VW correctly. make sure you suspend the calipers instead of letting them hang from the brake line. and use anti-seize and lube where appropriate. i got the oem pagid brake kit ( pads and rotors ) from rock auto, good parts and reasonable price.

Love your videos bro.. but i hate to say it... you had the cash from the 240sx to finish the mini. I guess to each their own but there's no way i would have bought a 370z with all that cash over multiple project builds and finishing the mini. Only reason i'm mentioning this because you told us how much you got for the 240sx... how much the z was and how much the Audi was. to blow 17k cash and in a matter of weeks it seems like is Remanent of how lottery winners blow their cash in a matter of years.
