I loved watching this video! The dresses turned out 👌🏻! A tip from me- once you have your pattern exactly right take a piece of fabric that you don’t want to use (old double knit is perfect 😂) and make your pattern out of fabric. It’s stays put and you can leave your kitchen knives in the drawer. 😉 Seriously, you can cut a dress in less than half the time. Great video, as always.

Hi Megan! I used the neckline video you referenced to finish a dress today, and it worked perfectly! I left a comment on her video. The first modest dress video you made inspired me so much that I made a dress from it, but I couldn’t figure out the neckline, so I repurposed the fabric for something else. Today I used a dolman-sleeve type “pattern” I made from a favorite shirt and a favorite skirt silhouette, and that combined with the neckline tips made the pattern work so PERFECTLY that I’m going to make a couple more summer dresses. Thank you so much for inspiring me! I’ve never been able to follow professional pattern, and this type of method speaks my language! I think your sewing videos are my favorite. Thanks again, Megan!!!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, and you may already know this, but tracing paper is amazing for making patterns because you can lay it on top and see the seams beneath. I use it for regular patterns from the store as well so that I can make multiple sizes from the pattern and don't have to cut the original pattern. You can get huge rolls of it online fairly inexpensively.

You did a fabulous job and you'll be whipping a new outfit out each week or so. Also you can make the children little shorts or dresses for summer with the left over or even toss pillows. The way you go about it is exactly I do when coping an already made garment for large items I make and don't have a pattern and I wing a lot especially cutting on the bias to ease neckline trims etc. to fit correctly. The things you can make for your home decor you want are as easily made and I think you would love to add that to your "fun time". Don't worry about having too much fabric, it comes in handy for gifts for others as well and when you consider the cost of yardage in the store as opposed to at a yard sale etc.......please let the guilt go, as you are saving tons of money. I admire you and cheer you on every bit. We all started somewhere and you are starting out just right and the biggest advantage is that you don't let things stump you, you work at the answer. You're going to be a great seamstress! Blessings and enjoy your sewing time, it can be so relaxing and a place to listen to music or audio books. Enjoy !!!!!

I never thought of using gift wrap to make a pattern out of it. I do have a four pc pattern that I like to use with a knit material - front back & neck facings. The sleeves are a part of the dress pieces & I have length of my dresses below my knees. Depending on the material, I can also have the dress sub as a slip under skirts to give a different look or under another dress so it looks like a shirt under & preserves modesty as most store bought dresses are cut too low for me. This old Mennonite senior isn't comfortable with showing a lot of skin - or tight fitting clothes showing all the lumps & bumps of an old body.

My mom was a quilter, and when we closed her house after she passed away, we found 3 bureaus full of fabric, and 10 tubs full of fabric, along with countless boxes of notions and finishings. We also found 6 WIP (works in progress), which my sister has been diligently finishing and giving to family members. We never knew! I should also add that the bulk of her fabric came from Mennonite owned fabric stores in either Shiloh Ohio or Shipshewana Indiana.

Using mom’s fabric scissors for paper crafts was like the cardinal sin of childhood. It was the thing you got in the most trouble for and never really understood why it was bad. But now I’m an adult who sees and I understand. Great video Megan. I like seeing your process. I'm a long time experienced sewer and what you did is impressive. You are much more than a beginner sewer. The first knock off usually needs some tweaking and can take several attempts. You got it right on the second try. Kudos to you! Show us more of your sewing.

More sewing videos!!!! I love this. You’re so personable and entertaining to watch. I enjoy your honesty with the seam ripper too… If you want to sew, you’d better know how to undo when necessary! 💜 I would love for you to show us a make for your kids! May you and your family be so incredibly blessed-always.

Megan, what a clever dressmaker you are... well done a tip---if you want to make a neckline smaller, play around with pins and put in a dart each side of the neckline---I do this if a Tshirt neckline is too low... Congratulations, its fab!

You have a wonderful talent! 😊 I've tried to make my own dresses and they end up being a faily everytime because I still have a mommy tummy. Years ago, I started a "sexy apron", and it was COMPLICATED! I spent quite a bit of time on it, it was coming along nicely, and then I get pregnant and put that sexy thang in the back of the closet, unfinished! Lol! I could never wear it now!

I love that you used your knives as paper weights. 😆 You seem rather knowledgeable about fabrics. I would love to see a video explaining more about apparel fabrics.
