I Shouldn't Be Alive (Limpopo)

Shared by four southern African countries, the Limpopo River is important to livelihoods of all who live on its banks, but as much as it is a source of life, it can just as easily bring death. In early 2013 heavy rains flooded the river basin, shattering livelihoods and leaving Mozambique and its people devastated.
This is a gripping true story of one of the survivors, Francisco, who was stranded in the raging flood waters for five days after being faced with the decision of saving himself by swimming to safety, or risking it all and sticking with a group of eight others… who couldn’t swim.

He is absolutely right, when he said that children should be thought how to swim. The numbers of people I know who drowned, is way too many, which could have been avoided if they were thought how to swim. It is just an essential as learning basic life support. The younger they learn, the easier it is to teach them. No matter where you are in the world, it all comes down to money. I don't think essential life saving skills is a waste of money. Each child who learns, can in turn,teach others the basics of how to survive. Your cousin probably saved 10 lives that day. 7 of them saved, because he knew how to swim, and did not panic. Most people drown because they panic. Hopefully, they are taking his advice.

In the beginning they spoke Portuguese and I understood 90% as we speak Portuguese where I come from but then they spoke a original African language that sounds Chinese. Amazing people, amazing history. Hope the kids learn how to swim and the government update they flood alert system.

There are good and bad people in Africa, just as with everywhere in the world. Always was and sadly still persists. The level of cruelty there is tragic as a lot is based on greed, religious beliefs and power. That being said, the people represented in this film are good, decent people.

I know I don't have the right to criticize any events experienced by the victims, I'm just going to comment only as a viewer of this channel, that compared to the other survival stories, this one was the lightest or better said, the least developed short dramatization documentary! floods is reality in Mozambique,it can happen any time, however people should have the information in time to leave the places where are vulnerable. nevertheless the government should advise people and allocate them to safe places prepared to accommodate people whom are suffer with natural disasters like floods.

They speak Changana, the local language of that area of Mozambique, at several points in the film. When the teacher is talking to the students, he's speaking in Portuguese.
