Ah, Nice... many fond memories. On a next trip perhaps explore the market in the Vieux Ville. I had the best olives I've ever had. A paper cone of nicoise olives from a barrel. They were warm from sitting in the sun & omg--so amazing. So many interesting little shops. My favorite was a shop that sold marzipan. Each little piece was a work of art. They were delicious but they were so beautiful I didn't want to eat them. Another interesting experience in Nice--there is a single gauge railroad that goes to Digne. Digne is way up in the Alps & has a thermal spa. The spa was great & the area all of the way from Nice & back was so picturesque. So much natural beauty. Then there is the Musee de Chagall, the Roman amphitheater & the musee de Matisse, all found on the Cheminee des Arennes.

Hi Jay, I just got back from a two weeks vacation from France. We went from Paris to South of France (not our first time in France), we picked up a car after few days in Paris and start road-tripping down to the South. We have seen city vs. countryside and I gotta say that the small town has the most charm than the city. I hope you have a wonderful time with your dad when he is there, take care.

@@rudolfschenker Not sure My experience of North West Italy is that the Italian dialects become more like Provencal the nearer to France you get. So the language of Nizza in 1860 would have been classed, I suspect, as an Italian dialect After handing it over to France that year it became a dialect of Languedoc Yet remained unchanged My point is "È Basta" is also Italian even written with Italian orthography

My first Nice trip was in '59 followed each year for about three years.. Really enjoyed it. Remember Stranger On The Shore seemed to always be playing on the juke box at our plage. Two sweet little old ladies ran the small hotel within easy walking distance. Bought a Batman comic near the old covered market away from the plage, deeper into the town. The mayor was a former colleague of my father's. He would eventually wind up in prison for a bit. (The mayor -- not my father.)

why don’t you try the bus to get to where you can do a drone shot? When I visited Nice for one Euro I was able to take a bus all the way out to Menton. it was great. I stopped in Monte Carlo, walked up the hill to the cathedral where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are buried and to Jacques Cousteau aquarium (The aquarium wasn’t much). On the way back I stopped at a place that advertised itself as the most beautiful house in the world. It was nice but that’s a bit of an exaggeration :) at the time you could ride and change buses or the train for the same one euro if within a certain period of time. I have no idea if that still holds true, it’s probably been about 10 years for me. Love Nice! I actually love Nicoise salad and it was the first time I actually ordered an entire (basic) French meal in French. I also enjoyed the socca. I went into a local hardware type store and bought a little French basket that the French would buy and not tourists. I still use it every day :-) There was an outdoor market and I found a beautiful brighy white cotton blouse with eyelets for my daughter-in-law and she loved it. boy I wanna get back to France! It’s been since 2015 or 2016. i’ve been there four or five times. unexpectedly fell in love with Paris on my very first visit.

Last visited Nice in 2018, it was nice to recognise places in the Old Town and the road to the port. When we came back I rewatched your previous (winter) visit & realised our Airbnb had been literally round the corner from where you used to live. Dead easy to visit Italy on a day trip and all along the coast. Also the train to Digne someone else comments on, takes you up into the hills and the landscape is quite un-Mediterranean.

When I got back I was so disappointed and almost embarrassed that I really did not see and do nearly as much as I should have because I felt out of my comfort zone and kind of home sick even. He decided he was on a mission and moved onward to something he thought he was going to, but was actually something else. It was good, but didn't knock his socks off. Now the other one just needed a break. It was fantastic but what was once a happening street back in the day is now on a quiet corner. A touch of the magic that is Jay would have turned the entire block around. But it was not to be. And he made the BEST brownies, but does anyone in Paris care about Brownies?
