i bet hannah has so much "time freedo" she works from home!! But wait...how is can she get all that and not be in an MLM??? Maybe it's because....she has a legitimate and stable form of income that actually allows all the things MLMs promise. Side note- To play devil's advocate, I mean, from what i hear youtube content creators don't get much freetime but clearly Hannah's passionate about what she does so i imagine the work's not burdensome, and in the process she gets to warn people of the harmful effects of mlm so she's doing a great service.

Thank you for this. A girl I went to high school with is currently doing Beach Body, and it's been painful to watch. She quit her job as a pharmacist to do BB full-time, it's so insane. But the worst part is the comments she's made in her desperation to recruit - she basically said she's glad she no longer has to give medication out to people who have depression and diabetes because they obviously don't try hard enough to improve their lives. It was infuriating, to say the least. I normally feel bad for huns who've gotten sucked in by MLMs because they want to support their families, but this woman was easily making over $100k in her real job, so I have no compassion for her at all. I'm just glad she's no longer out there judging people for their health conditions.

As a recovering addict, it makes me cringe so much when she talks about how she "needs her shakeology"... and then describes how she needed to figure out how she was going to get money to make sure she gets it. That is such an addict mindset to think, "well I'll make the money back later, so I can just buy it now" regardless of whether you make the money back or not. Because, as we all know, if you do manage to make that money back, it's just going to go straight back into supporting the addiction. I think the addict mindset these MLMs give people makes it just that much harder to leave them. Also, her explaining how you recruit, I mean, "share with your friends and family" and then they share and then they share and then all of the sudden you have a huge team! ****insert gif of Jim drawing a pyramid for Michael Scott**** 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♀🤦‍♀

As a piano teacher who graduated from college with a degree in piano pedagogy, it frustrates me that literally anyone can call themselves a piano teacher. From people who can barely play themselves, to people who play skillfully but have no idea how to teach, I've had some students come to me so messed up in their habits from another "teacher" that it took years to unlearn, if ever! I can't get over this woman saying that you don't have to know or be able to do basically anything to be a "coach."
@MeganVictoriaKearns
@MeganVictoriaKearns 2 жыл бұрын
Lol, true story: When I applied to college, I did so knowing that my parents weren't going to be able to help pay for it. I earned a scholarship, thankfully, but the scholarship didn't cover the cost of my books or the rent on my apartment. Or food or gas or my car insurance, among other things. So I had to get creative with earning money beyond the pay I got from my part-time job. I was babysitting two boys 2 days a week and ended up getting the mom to pay me more if I cleaned her house while I was there watching her boys. One day her older son expressed interest in piano lessons. I had very, very basic knowledge of piano playing but I was competent in reading music, as I played violin for 7 years. So I offered myself to the boy's mom as a "piano teacher". All I had to do was stay one lesson ahead of the kid! Worked very well for me. 😉 I don't mean to piss you off, lol 😆, but that's what happened.

I can relate. I'm in college right getting my human services degree. I realized that many people get the jobs I want by just moving up in the company. It frustrates me because I'm putting hours of work into school when these people are doing it without a degree. This is why I've decided I have to continue my education to become a therapist. It's going to take longer but that's just the way of the world I guess. Nobody can work there way up to be a licensed professional counselor without going to college.

@@stephanieburgess8217 I considered becoming a dietician but couldn’t handle the workload as I don’t have the brain for medical-related fields. I know a lot about nutrition as I’ve been interested in the subject for 15 years. So I got a lot of respect for the profession. I cringe at words/phrases like ‘keto’ and ‘muscle confusion‘but my biggest pet peeve is when non-experts try to give nutrition advice. When people ask me basic questions like ‘which protein powder is cheaper, pea or rice?’ Or ‘which greens are high in iron?’ I know I can answer those. But even I know it’s irresponsible to give advice to people about how to eat to manage medical conditions, lose weight, recovery from illness/injury, build muscle, etc. so when I see people with even less knowledge on the subject than myself acting like they understand it, it frustrates me so.

I was into beachbody starting in 2007 when the coaching network was brand spanking new. Now I will say I am grateful for beachbody as far as the workouts, I lost 50lbs, got into fitness and it was the catalyst for me getting certified as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. Heck I even won the $10k monthly transformation contest! Now with that being said, it is MADDENING how extreme the workouts and “eating” plans have become and sad to watch the predatory evolution of the MLM network for beachbody. There’s a TON of free content on KZbin to help you start on your fitness journey, learn how to eat and create healthy habits. Beachbody has become high pressure weight loss and coaches pretending to care is a dangerous combo. Thank you for all you do Hannah, I’m a fairly new sub and I am loving your content!

This is no "opportunity call." This is is bragging followed by a sales pitch. Also, when she said there was no limit to the number of people a coach can recruit, I had flashbacks to my retail days. The manager would tell me, "Your department needs to produce $35,000 in revenue today." I would try to explain, "It's a Wednesday morning in the middle of January. Nobody needs a new computer right now. It's also snowing so hard that most of the residential streets haven't been plowed yet. There are TWO customers in the whole store, and one of them is Creepy Carl who just tries to flirt with the cashiers and never buys anything. There's no way I can sell $35,000 worth of product." And, of course, the manager would tell me I could still hit that goal if I would just work hard enough.

the thing that bothers me the most about beachbody is that recruiting for it and finding customers can be inherently insulting. they have to seek out people who might want to lose weight and that means they’re focusing on other people’s bodies and judging them. Like you said, being bigger doesn’t equate to being unhealthy, and these coaches have no idea if someone even WANTS to lose weight or SHOULD be losing weight. it’s disgusting and fatphobic. thank you for this video, you did an incredible job focusing on the things that really matter when it comes to this company.

I got sucked into Beachbody years ago before I even knew what MLMs were. Alllllll these zoom recruitment calls are the same. Sadly, I sat through many of them. Barf. 🤮 The “time freedom” thing is such a lie. I own a business, I had recently opened it back when I joined Beachbody. I was a single mom struggling to grow a small business while raising two kids completely on my own. And allllll of that was *still* less time consuming and exhausting than trying to work this pyramid scheme. It required SO much of my time…calls, FB group interaction, recruiting…it was constant and it drained me. I got scolded and told I wasn’t a team player because I refused to call myself a “coach”. I’m not a coach! I know nothing about coaching! I’m an aesthetician who owns a medical spa! What in the world did I know about nutrition and exercise to “coach” ANYone?! It felt so scammy and I’m ashamed that I held on as long as I did (about six months). Quitting that pyramid scheme and focusing on my *actual* business was the best thing I’ve ever done. Cutting ties with those obnoxious women felt like such a relief.

And up until she recently she hardly EVER talked about the “business”, it was always the workouts and nutrition side. Yes! I am a lowly grocery store cashier and had a mental health semi-breakdown about 3 months after I started working at my current job. My managers and supervisors literally BENT OVER BACKWARD to help me get the time off that I needed to not only recover but to get BETTER than I was before my issue began! They were so supportive and kind! They WANTED me to get better, to know what they could do to help. They validated my feelings and supported me through a very tough time, even though I'm sure it was an inconvenience on the store's schedule! Then, after ALL of that, once I was ready to come back, they again went above and beyond to make sure I didn't come back to too much, too fast and are helping me STILL, because they value me as a person - not just as an employee - and want to see me move up in the company eventually! I don't always love the work, but I love my job! They really do care, and that matters! ❤

$94 protein powder?!?!?!? That alone should be enough to send everyone running in the opposite direction. All MLMs are insidious but this one feels even moreso. Not only does it prey on the often severe insecurities people have about their bodies, it also forces you to have a very unhealthy (in my opinion) relationship with diet and exercise when dramatic "results" are how you can rope others into the scheme and therefore survive in it yourself. Yuck!! You don't need an MLM to lose weight and/or live a healthier life and you certainly don't need one to have a "beach body." If you have a body and put it on a beach, congratulations, you have a beach body. Ps. I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have been binging the top fails playlist since. So good! Hannah, it's great that you brought up the potential danger of the constant before and after posting as a marketing tool. There was one woman I saw in a vlog who was in beach body, it was a while ago so I have no idea who it was, but she'd purposefully let herself gain more weight than she needed during her pregnancies so that when she used beach body programs to lose weight postpartum she'd have a more dramatic before and after. There was another woman (in it works though, not beach body) who was posted on the anti mlm subreddit saying when she was in the mlm she'd purposefully yoyo diet the same twenty lbs. Similarly, a top beach body elite coach said shed relax and let herself put some weight/lose muscle on in between the releases of new beach body work out/diet programs so that whenever there was a new release she could get very thin and toned again. This is just sooooo unhealthy and it's both shocking and terrible that these women who are "selling the dream" by appearing to be the picture of health are engaging in such toxic behaviors.

I know this is an older video, but I still appreciate it because it's incredibly validating. I actually like several beachbody workout programs, and back in the day (before I knew they had an mlm business on top of the workouts), I joined their forums when I started a program to get some group encouragement going. Like you said in your video, I initially presumed that the coaches on the forums were...you know...COACHES. I thought they were fitness experts who were qualified, knew what they were doing, and could help me on my journey, and I thought, "Man, what a great resource! What a great company! All the help I could ever need while doing these programs!" Being on the forums worked for about ten seconds, and then I made a post asking about something...probably a question about macronutrients. I was immediately BOMBARDED from all sides by "coaches" who just gave me answers from Google that I a.) had already seen, and b.) didn't answer my question. It became extremely clear very quickly that none of the people calling themselves coaches had any idea what they were talking about, and I was hounded like a fresh chunk of meat tossed into a starving lion's den by people who wanted to be MY "coach". I never went back to the forum, and it still feels like such a waste--it could've genuinely been a supportive community where I could've made some friends to keep me accountable (without bothering my real life friends with my struggles). Instead, it was a hotbed of useless info and people trying to virtually kidnap you for their own ends. Fast forward a few years, and a good friend of mine was talked into trying Shakeology, and she genuinely liked it (though the cost was an issue and she eventually stopped buying it for that reason). A former mutual friend of ours had a challenge group, and my friend recommended I join because she was having fun with it. I, naive fool that I was, thought it was just a group chat where we could encourage each other. Nope. The former friend wanted me to pay money to join (and mentioned that it would give me access to the entire BB catalogue of workouts), and when I said that I didn't see the point since I already owned the BB program I planned to use, she got SUPER hostile with me, said some very hurtful things, and insisted that I would never see progress without her. I told her to have a nice life and blocked her, and I relayed her behavior to my friend, who also walked away not long after. It casts such a negative pall on the entire company to have this mlm side of things. They made some actual good products! Why? WHYYYYY? It's so unnecessary to have this predatory, relationship-destroying, exploitative business model when they could just, you know, make some decently priced workout equipment/programs!

Crazy thing is I was about to sign up as a “coach” for all of the right reasons…literally like hours ago….and then I watched this video and learned A LOT. I really thought I found an opportunity that I could build a new work avenue. I’m currently pregnant and I’ve been in the gym consistently with my boyfriend since I’ve been pregnant. I thought Beachbody was going to be the way to reach out and inspire other women….little did I know about MLM and how it’s a scam. I’m naturally small anyway so they probably wouldn’t be happy with me and how I would want to go about it. My goal was to remain active during my pregnancy and after pregnancy and help motivate women that they can too. I never was thinking about it being a weight loss program….More just staying active and that having kids doesn’t have to stop you. I’m happy I continued to do my research because I would of been pretty upset if I found all of this out AFTER signing up. Really wish I knew of an opportunity where I can genuinely help motivate women to not lose themselves after kids and lifting them up that they can make it possible. Sighs….yea this video was super helpful but overall crushing to my plan that I had in mind. Scammers are everywhere man smh.

However, I am a huge fan of certain trainers and love the programs. I honestly had no idea what the coach thing was. I just had a history with P90x and then joined after I had surgery and was immobile for 16 weeks and really needed something to be active again. I had one person ask me if I wanted a coach and I said no thank you. Never been bothered again. Their supplements/shakes are way overpriced so I do all my own stuff since I'm not a novice about nutrition. This was interesting to see though since it is another side I've never been exposed to.

My areas biggest pride event happened yesterday and I saw TWO MLMs!!!!! I was so proud of myself for recognizing them!! One I saw was a booth for doteera (I walked away SO FAST!!!! It was also completely vacant of people but both booths on the other sides were packed they were actual small businesses people making their own shirts and pins and selling them) and in the parade itself there was a pure romance pick up all decked out in the pure romance logo and such and the group behind it was MASSIVE!! I stood there watching them all thinking omg the couple in the truck are the up line and this is their down line 😱 These are also two that I never knew were MLMs until I found your channel Thank you for keeping me safe from scammers!!!! 😆🤟

Thanks for plugging Heather Robertson! I've never heard of her, but her workouts look really effective! I've been working out with Caroline Girvan for over 2 years and, like you, I'm OBSESSED (check out her channel! She created 5 ten-week EPIC programs as well as shorter programs, individual workouts and she's off the grid now because she's working on something new!) But I always love seeing the variety of fitness influencers on KZbin and supporting them! Can't wait to try out HR's content 🔥

something so funny to me is that when she's talking about inventory, here I am packing orders for my small business - you know, the kind that ISN'T a scam :)

I was roped into Beachbody as a college student and boy did it wreck my ability to live a BALANCED healthy lifestyle - I've been working hard to restore that ability ever since. I became fixated on becoming smaller (despite being a perfectly healthy weight and content with my body when I started), getting noticeable progress photos, and eating by their restrictive nutrition plans' rules all the time. And that's because as this video shows, these kinds of goals and habits are vital for influencing others to join Beachbody, and the company frames them as not just harmless, but healthy. By the time anti-MLM content woke me up to how messed up Beachbody and MLMs are and I finally quit, I had developed ortheorexia, was 15 ibs underweight, and became totally used to feeling like I might pass out multiple times a day. In the 6 years since, I have healed my relationship with my body, working out, and nutrition to a great extent, although I know I will be working on that for the rest of my life. Thank you for spreading the word on the evils of MLMs, especially Beachbody - videos like this completely transformed my life. ❤

BeachBody is the one where the compensation plan specifically says that you have to build your team on two legs. If one leg collapses, you’re in deep trouble. This is why it’s a constant hamster wheel.
