Thanks for expanding the range of your content, Rich! Many of us have been inspired by and benefitted from all that you have shared. At 70 I am still progressing as a rider. As my body slowly degrades my skill set improves. Too cool! Riding serious terrain 3-4 days a week year round has kept me happy and alive.

Thanks Rich! Sad you get so much hate about electric, I’m excited for them. The thought of not having an internal combustion engine is liberating! No worrying about valve clearances or top end rebuilds, not burning yourself on the exhaust etc, no oil changes! And no fuel! Not having cancer causing fuel around kids is a real bonus. I’ll always love internal combustion, and there’ll always be a place for it as far as I can tell, but I’m also excited about something just and fun but so much easier to live with!

Excellent info, thanks for this ... the #1 reason I would pick one of these up is the lack of engine noise. I could build up some obstacles near the house without pissing off my neighbors - which means I can get out on the bike *way* more often since I don't need to make a big event out of getting seat time with loading / unloading / driving to a dedicated riding area. That would be massive!

Rich, don't cycle your battery like that. Short charges are much better long term than long ones. Recharge at every opportunity. Ideally you want to keep it just under 90%. So every 2hr ride, start at 90%, ride down to 40% and recharge back to 90%. You'll maintain battery capacity for much longer that way.

EM charger, at least the ones I got, does not have a feature to select lower target charge percentage. Kind of a bummer, I would mostly charge it to 70-80% and discharge to 50, that'd keep the battery in good shape practically forever.
@gophop
@gophop 4 ай бұрын
@@dmitryakhutin1611 Once you get a sense of how long a charge takes, you can just put it on the charger a certain amount of time before riding (like an hour before leaving), so you'll hit close to that capacity. As long as it doesn't get stored below 30%, shouldn't be a problem.
@du987
@du987 4 ай бұрын
@@dmitryakhutin1611 That's unfortunate. I have a great after market Surron charger where you can vary the amps from 2-12 amps and set the final charge target to 80/90/100%. Hopefully somebody will make a similar charger for the EM bikes. It's great being able to just set and forget at 80% and if I have the time turn the amps way down for a healthier charge.

I ended up trying out, and purchasing, an EM EPure Race after watching your first video about the EM. Now I barely ride my Beta trials bike. The only reason I have not sold the Beta is so I have a second bike for friends when they want to try trials. I find that the EM is really easy to get on when I only have a few minutes to ride/practice. Plus I have been using it nearly daily this winter in my garage. Thanks for pointing me towards the EM.

It makes me super excited to hear the EM bikes might be getting gears! i think woods models bikes could greatly benefit from having 2 to 4 gears so that you can have that super low end for enduro/trials, but still be able hit the high gears and haul butt in the open areas. I have really wanted the EM Escape R with the seat, mainly the clutch drawing me to it. But the one limit that holds me back is the low top speed. I wan't a fully versatile bike! If only the Varg or a future model had a clutch and a couple gears. what a fun enduro/cross country bike that would be!

@johnnyblue4799
@johnnyblue4799 4 ай бұрын
@@eastwood111 I think it's quite the opposite. Trail riding can go over long distances and last a long time, while motocross sessions are likely short enough for the battery to last and then get some charge in between sessions.

Excellent comments about being able to appreciate or LOVE more than one thing (type of bike/engine/etc). AND, just because someone likes/prefers type "A" does not invalidate someone else's preference (or love of) type "B"! ..... I've always been a 2t guy... and long ago, one of the things I really liked about 4t offroad bikes was that they were quieter than a comparable 2t..... But, for years now, the only kind of bike (stock, anyway) you could quietly creep through the woods on was a 2t.... perhaps before long it will be the domain of the e-dirtbike!

I know it's not the same in many ways, but still. I sold my ICE enduro bike and bought Surron Ultra Bee and cannot be happier (until someone like Yamaha does their own version with KYB suspension :D). I get far more confident on the trails, can tackle far harder problems. I'm liberated from the need to clutch and to disbalance myself with gear shifting or rear braking. And I need less maintenance to do.

Appreciate the enthusiasm for the electric here. With regard to the cost comparison vs. battery longevity, I would say to remove "top end" for a gas bike from any consideration. I don't know anyone who has needed to do one except for very old (20+ years) trials bikes. Even when ridden hard and put away wet, this is just not needed usually. Trials bikes are surprisingly durable. The battery is definitely the weak point of the EM or any electric bike for longevity compared to gas.

I appreciate these EM videos-- you are giving some honest feedback without the hype and being realistic about usage. I hope to get a Race or comp one day soon, one of the biggest factors for me over ICE is I can hop logs in my backyard at 10pm all I want without the neighbours complaining. Quick nighttime jaunts to drainage ditches and the like are great fun, and not feasible with a 2/4 stroke. So glad they finally came out with the app for configuring the bike-- it was a whole new ball game on the Surron after getting an aftermarket controller and being able to tweak everything from regen braking, power levels, to throttle curves and ramp times-- the works! This lack of configurability I saw as a big downside to EM previously.

After enjoying my e pure race 2021 I think it is time for an upgrade and soon I will order an e pure race 2024. The new factor -e looks amazing but I think I don't really need a gearbox. No problems at all with my 2021. For me a trials bike that never stops on narrow corners is ... INCREDIBLE, plenty of power, good balance, incredible traction on any situation...😂. Being electronic wouldn't it be possible to update the mapping in the 23 pro to 24 specs?
@jsully007
@jsully007 3 ай бұрын
You mention preferring a 24 Sport over a 23 Race primarily for the new mappings. My understanding is that the ECU in a 23 Race can be updated to provide EM Connect support like a 24 Race, and therefore allow customizations of the maps. Assuming that is correct would that change your opinion? Are the settings available via EM Connect all that it takes to "get the new mappings" and thereby make a 23 Race mapped the same as 24 or is there more to it than that? Thanks!

Hello Rich, thank you very much for the great content. I'm Thorsten from Germany and bought the Epure Race 2021 model. I have no trial or enduro experience. I have seen your video on clutch control. This can also be implemented well on my Tuareg 660. However, the Epure Race with clutch control behaves a little differently, as the flywheel revs up quickly, even if you give it very little throttle. Can you make a video about throttle and clutch control with the Epure? That would be great. Thank you very much and good luck with your channel

Ive been on the fence about selling my '23 txt 300. Less than 30hrs on it. I did all the same math as you with battery cycles etc. Chances are those batteries would run a lot more than 1000cycles just with less range. Usually a battery capacity rating is cycles before reaching 80% capacity. Im really curious what would actually break first on those bikes. If you did 500hrs with only the potential wire rub issue, that's really promising. The other costs with gas are 2cycle oil and gas. You prob pay 18c per kw/hr on the EM which is NOTHING. There's a lot of undeniable pros to the electric. My ONLY concern is that top end follow through you talk about, and the transition back and forth to the gas hard enduro bike. Trials bikes are already flat up top. Makes me wonder if I should wait for the gearbox version. we see we see! thanks for the vid

This is a great video and kudos for keeping clear of the politics of electric vehicles. Personally I hate to be let down by anything electric, whether it’s a power tool or a car. However, I concede power tools are so good now not needing a cord and the batteries are getting really good. Do I think battery powered riding mowers are the answer? No there are jobs too big for modern day battery powered tools. So…in conclusion, battery powered machines can be a great option when the application is right. At this point, a battery powered enduro bike doesn’t make sense to me. And I think before batteries ever get good enough, a new technology will take over our machines. I think internal combustion isn’t obsolete yet. Take a look at the Japanese ammonia powered internal combustion engines.

The map thing is interesting and I'm surprised there isn't the ability to simply update the software on the bike. Most of those controllers are programmable. The Epure Race apparently allows you to use a phone app to tune some basic settings to create custom maps, hopefully that functionality makes its way to the rest of the range. Also... 1000 cycles at 4 hours of ride time per cycle is 4000 hours of ride time. Even if you only get half that, it's still a TON of hours. I think 99% of all enduro and trials bikes out there are well under 1000 hours before they're retired for good.
@IRCTireUSAMoto
@IRCTireUSAMoto 4 ай бұрын
So apparently you can download the app and adjust the maps on this new model. I didn’t know that until after this video was done. That being said, I completely agree with you 99% will get well under 1000 hours on a trial bike!

Electric will preserve and perhaps even OPEN more riding areas. In my experience, most of what people hate about motorsports are the noise. "Trail destruction" is an issue that can be actively mitigated and prevented by building smart, sustainable trails. And this is an effort led by so many riders, clubs, and other organizations around the US. So any argument of "forest destruction" by environmentalists is not a very strong one. But the NOISE is something that can't be improved on high performance gas bikes (or at least it hasn't improved yet). I love my TM 300 2T. It is also very loud when you get on the pipe, even wish a freshly packed silencer. But I will happily own an electric bike for practice and trail riding and even replace my race bike with an electric race bike once the battery tech improves.

From the amount of time that I’ve put on the previous EMs, which is quite a bit. I never lost any battery charge. That being said, after 1000 cycles it would probably lose charge. But as I said in the video at the rate I ride, that would take 7 1/2 years. The maintenance on a gas bike in 7 1/2 years would probably equal out to the same as a new battery. It’s definitely an interesting thing to think about. Thanks for watching!

I hope you don’t have a mobile phone, electric toothbrush, electric power tools and so on. Fires are very rare and normally due to someone messing with things or using the wrong equipment.

That's reasonable. But I bet a lot of people felt that way about gasoline...

it is lifepo4, nothing to do with lithium past generation... I crashed some lifep4 on enduro bike, i opened a couple, some of the sandwich pack were half destroyed or compressed or cut. No problem. Here I guess they use the usual pile of cylindric usual lifepo4 elements, so even more mechanically resistant. check a wiki on the topic ;)

Do you really look down on his choice of bike this much? Do you not think his reasoning makes sense even if you'd never personally get an electric bike? Also why use middle-school tier insults instead of just respectfully stating where you disagree?

You are actually asking, go to an enduro race or an MX race, and you will understand. Also on a trial bike MX or Enduro bike , there is also other forces involved in the centrifugal force generated in the action of the piston , crank etc , that makes bikes be able to move their center of gravity momentarily to get up and over a steep section, or log etc . Go watch some Graham Jarvis videos to understand

@@Enduro-Life Thanks for the response, but I'm still not sure I completely understand. For the part where you say to go to an event in person, I'm assuming you're talking about the sounds, and that's fair enough. I'm more confused about the second part. Could you explain in more detail what role piston/crank play in manipulating the bike, or could you point me to a resource that does?
