... Sidenote, I was thinking today about how its become socially acceptable to pull out your phone during slow moments in a day, but if you pulled out a book, you'd seem rude (or unhinged). All the time people check their phone at work, scroll a bit while at dinner with friends, scroll while riding (not driving) in the car with a friend. The times I have pulled out a book instead, really got some odd reactions

I love you for having such a realistic starting number - these content creators who say they’re on their phones for 3-4 hours a day are lyyyying 😂 #unexpectedlotr

yup there is the emergency intercom podcast and they were realistic about how much time they spend on screens yup it was double digit hours...

I knew my obsessive Instagram scrolling was a problem. Now most of my screen time is filled with reading a book on the Kindle app. Healthier? I'm going to say healthier lol

i desperately want to break my phone addiction too 😭 i feel like phone use is such a good procrastination tool because committing to something really fun when you have stuff to do feels so illegal. i'm gonna challenge myself you've inspired me!!

I bought my e-reader to help me not be on the phone, mindlessly scrolling myself to sadness. It worked well for a few years, got lots of comforting reading done, but lately as my anxiety has been high I'm back on the doomscroll game 😭. I hate being in a vicious cycle. I think the flip phone era was a sweet spot. We could all stay in touch easier, but we weren't constantly tethered to the web or each other.

Thank you for this reminder! I, too, was shocked when I learned that my average screentime (phone) is 7hrs. 😱 I have 8-5 work that requires me to look at a computer screen almost the entire day. It horrified me to realize that when I’m not sleeping or working, I’m just glued to my phone screen gahhh

Yeah, that sounds like the opening scene of some straight-to- DVD film where the phone takes over your life.

This is the perfect timing .. i spend 8 to 9 hours on my phone daily and i was thinking i’d challenge myself to lowering that number next month (didnt think of how to do it tho😂)

I soooo needed this. I have a phone usage problem. Though I do (excuses) use it to film, edit and upload all my content. But that doesn’t make up a daily average of NINE HOURS!!!! Madness. So I need to sort myself and my life out. Hahaha. Loved the diaries of this. And that jumper you rummaged was lush!

Very weirdly appropriate timing. My phone broke today and it’s really shown me how much I struggle to be in the present at dead points in my day (waiting for the bus etc.) but it’s also meant I persevered with reading my book which I initially was struggling with but now really enjoying!

I think using google maps and listening to music and podcasts are fine things to use your phone for, but it is also very nice to have your brain off with no distractions to just chill out and be bored

I think one simple thing we can all do is go back to wearing a watch, so we don’t pull out our phones every time we want to check the time - and then get sucked in.

I feel like I’ve been battling an addiction for years… I’m at a point now where I just have to practice mindfulness daily about what I want out of life. I have had social media deleted and an app that forces me to take a deep breath when I open my browser lol. but STILL I struggle and contemplate if I should just pull the trigger and switch to a flip phone. I just don’t think it makes sense because I still use it for navigation, as my camera, and music (and audiobook) player! so the pursuit continues in how to make my phone an effective dumb phone

You could live like its 2011 and buy a point and shoot camera, a GPS, and an MP3 player. I have toyed with this idea, I already have a point and shoot which is the most expensive of the three lol.
@dianagro99
@dianagro99 8 ай бұрын
@@Stinkincutecrochet that is true, I don’t think I would mind living like it’s 2011. actually today I accidentally left my phone at home (I think as consequence of eliminating screen time, you just forget it exists…) and I was too far and already late so I went the day without it. I have to drive to different homes for work so I PRINTED the directions. honestly, it was entirely a glorious day! maybe I’ll just “accidentally” leave my phone at home more often 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have an Apple Watch (the irony) so I can still send texts when connected to Wi-Fi

Ironic that you put this video out...as I want to get out of the habit. Also ironic... I'm using my phone to Pinterest ideas of how to spend my time😂. I'm over my consumption with social media...to the point of boredom. Great video...so needed... it's perfect!❤

I grew up with no computers, no Internet, and I don't know if that is involved, but tech "addiction" does NOT bother me at all. As long as I am still doing my walking, praying, reading books, library visiting, writing, socializing to the extent I do so, etc. then my time spent "online" (on the phone) is also fine.

Love the honesty. We need to talk about this more. That said: seven hours is a lot. My average screen time on my phone is 3 hours. But you can add 3 hours on my iPad to that. So, I have a problem too! When to read, when to write? I had to erase Instagram, KZbin, Twitter and Facebook from my iPhone to reduce screen time.

The iPhone has a feature where you can set a time limit on how much time you can spend on an app. When you hit that limit a notification pops up to see if you want to continue. Many times I do continue but it does make me more conscious of how much time I’m spending on certain apps.

Though I admire the honesty and overall message of this vid, I just wanna say that it's chill to be on your phone for more than 2-3 hrs!! That google maps and KZbin and music can be useful in life fulfilment!! I think calling your phone usage "bad" or "good" and quantifying each minute can be more of an obstacle to freedom from phone addiction than useful!

I have timers set on basically all my apps. Thw app can be used a certain amount of time then it won't open until the next day. I also turned on grayscale at night so scrolling in bed will be less attractive. It did help lower the amount of time I'm on my phone. Now I just have to start reading more.

It may not be practical for a content creator to pursue the goal of not *using* their phone at all outside of a daily allottment of X minutes for any reason. Might it be more feasible to make the effort not to *waste* time on their phone? Delete social media apps and you'll probably have 3 hrs phone-free immediately per day? I don't have any social media apps on my phone. I use it for texting, checking email, reddit scrolling via browser, take pictures out of necessity, checking google maps to strategize travel routes, looking up a variety of needed information on the mobile browser (what time an establishment closes, which Barnes & Noble has a product in-store, restaurant menus for takeout).
