This is one of the great advantages of having a public healthcare system in a country. Brazil is one of them. For example, despite having several problems, any Brazilian citizen or tourist will be treated free of charge in a public hospital or public health clinic.

I have a lot of same experiences of such helping and welcoming while visting a new place even they dun know me well. That is like some kind of tradition and behavior learning from generation to generation. If no coup, this is a very nice country and well worth to visit. Since this seems somewhat relevant, PLEASE get insurance. Last 2 weeks I went to Thailand, had food poisoning. Went to a hospital and had to pay 7000 baht (or RM900 in malaysian money where im from, or 200 USD , or 193 Euro.) Which seems a little but its actually a lot. The same treatment would have costed me only RM1, or 22 cents Euro or 24 US cents, back in my home country. Insurance may not seem needed, but you never know what's going to happen. Plus it's super cheap. Insurance from Etiqa (which is one of the major insurance firms here) is only RM30, around 7 USD or 6 Euro. So please get insurance as it's even affordable. Don't be a cheapskate and risk it
