it would probably help is the government paid all the unpaid refugee workers that do the labour. This is why Japanese people love Chris. He spotlights areas of Japan no other foreigners or tourists would ever care about or go to and tries to show what makes them special and worth visiting. I've specifically seen them note that his highlighting of northern Japan has been super appreciated and they find it admirable of him to show people overseas why they ought to make the effort to go, over places tourists traditionally flock to like central and south Japan.

Chris: "what's the worst thing I could do?" Connor: "Well, you could have booked a hotel in the middle of nowhere with no internet." Chris: *drinks sake* In all seriousness though, did they really head to an isolated hotel without bringing like...a book? Maybe some knitting? A sketch book? Even a notepad to write down their thoughts? That's the impression I always got with things like this, you don't just go there and sit around, you do something that you simply wouldn't have done if the internet was there. I know things like this are really popular among writers and artists specifically because it lets them focus more on their work. Or among couples who need time to themselves. Or, if you don't have work or a relationship to work out then you spend your time in nature, hiking, fishing, things like that. Kind of defeats the point if they really did just spend most of their time sitting around.
@missbeans
@missbeans 2 ай бұрын
Yeah they did it this way just for the sensationalism. This is not how you do it lol. You bring some cards, a board game, a book, a portable project of some kind. I grew up pre-internet days, and even now I still go camping in remote areas without cell reception. You don't just go somewhere like that without bringing at least one form of entertainment.
@Serenity_EPK
@Serenity_EPK 2 ай бұрын
They are just going there to work and probably spend most of the time filming, then went to bed. If they actually wanted to go there for the experience, then they would do so in their own time(which doesn’t seem like there thing anyway). Like them trying to do typical things you mention and then have to turn around to a camera to tell millions watching on the internet their thoughts etc. They aren’t going to try and pretend to have an authentic experience, because it’s just not when they are filming. I think it can still give them a feel of the place, to know if it’s something they would actually be down to do in their own time. That’s how I see it anyway and it shows the place off to Chris’ viewers, who may be interested.

Exactly what I was thinking! I'm a writer, and I love scenic places like this that force me to disconnect, I get a stupid amount of reading and writing done. On the last cruise I went on, I had no internet, and my favorite part of that trip was sitting on the beach with a novel or writing poetry, I would absolutely love to do that at a place like this too. But if I were there with no wifi, no books, and no journals? Hell nah, it'd be a nightmare

Meh, I doubt either of them would have been caught dead there if not for content. It's a great video but in the end it's far, isolated, cold, the food didn't look great and there wasn't much to do. It's a niche place but if you really need an internet detox there are way better alternatives.
@mikemarkong
@mikemarkong Ай бұрын
@@kristianbasile7141 that might be true. but there are times you gotta take chances as an individual [in this case, as a youtuber] to try things out regardless if the outcome is not as expected. lets say they just tried this thing out, and as you said, it turned out to be a sad attempt. At least they tried, explored, and not just follow the usual wave of "discovering" places where other youtubers have already gone to. on the other hand, if they tried something out, and turned out to be a hit. Then they become pioneers in this realm of influencers ACTUALLY discovering new places of interest. TLDR: they're at the height of their youtube career, if they don't try and attempt at new activities... They WILL be left behind. They cannot be complacent. The grind continues with them, regardless. So let them explore, let them churn out new content. If they fail one video, that's a minor thing. Especially since they're already planning and producing 3-4 more content during the same week.

@@kristianbasile7141 i guess my reply didn't got posted. well i'll just simplify shorten my response. they're top tier youtubers, they can't go to the same place where everyone goes. So they have to explore and try out new things. Some of those videos will flop, and some will flourish. Yes, there are better internet detox places. But that's just one [albeit be small] part of the point of this video. They can be exploring new avenues for content, or legitimately trying out new locations nearby [aside from this one].

This is great! I could go here with my family when it's warmer to avoid kerosene intoxication and have a great time away from the hustle and bustle. Also, seeing the business owners so spirited and hard working for their community speaks to my heart.

I can only imagine how strong those Kerasine lamps smelled. Oof. Still, the snowy scenery was pretty look at! Plus, I do love older style places. They're charming and peaceful. I wouldn't be mad if I stayed here for one night, tbh. Though, the lamps and heater would give me migraines, so that would be an issue. Thanks for sharing this experience! I always look foward to your vids!
