There’s one thing I want to add for context since I didn’t mention it in the video. Overnight in the bivouac, I had a really bad gut feeling. So I was really debating if I should even attempt the climb, but as the morning came, I decided I’m at least gonna check out the conditions… and as you saw the snow was horrible, and that just confirmed my decision to turn around. Always listen to your gut!

I was doing a deep back country trip with more novice friends a few years back. Had a bad gut feeling and made the veteran decision to turn around immediately, despite my friends objecting. The weather forecast was clear but I "felt" a storm coming- we had to perform a river crossing to get back, so I didn't want to chance it. By the time we were 2/3rds the way back, we could look behind us and see the mountain we had been on. It was surrounded in dark sheets of rain, with many lightning strikes near the route we had taken. After we returned home we learned there had been a flash flood that took out several bridges and washed away some campers several miles downstream. Always listen to you gut indeed!

Wonderful - alone in the beautiful , peaceful mountains as usual! The snow livened things up, and the approach to the bivy looked sketchy. Again, a marvellous video, and l must comment on the efforts to get shots of you going ahead. To do it in the dark, and then having to go back for the camera shows your determination to produce great videos. @andrazegart In the USA the "rock piles" are known as "cairns" or "ducks". Ducks is more technically correct as cairns has as specific legal definition related to size for mining claims (they have to be much bigger). That said nearly everyone calls them cairns anyway. That type of snow (small soft beads) is what I call "graupel". People who don't spend time in the mountains probably won't be familiar with that word though. Awesome videos, I really enjoy them!

@Murluv Жыл бұрын
Also what happens if someone locks you in from the outside latch. Is there another way out?
@allaprima Жыл бұрын
Anyone that high up on the mountain at night in a snow storm would not lock the bivy. They would be begging to come inside. As a mountaineer, you’d welcome them and serve them a hot cup of tea.
@andrazegart Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I would definitely wake up if someone was outside. And if there was a way to keep the door closed without locking it, then I would keep it unlocked. But this door would open by the wind if I didn’t lock it with the ice axe.

@Murluv hahah I often think about that, because there is no other way out. And if someone randomly decided to lock you in, then you’re pretty much stuck in there 😅 and usually there is also almost no signal in there… 😬 But I don’t think such evil people visit the mountains 🤣 well I hope so!
