Hello everybody! Today, we return to Azeroth for another episode of Azeroth's Deep Dives! This episode focuses on the elven kingdom of Quel'Thalas, including the zones of Eversong Woods, Ghostlands, and the Isle of Quel'Danas! I love the Blood elve's starting zone, since my first character was one. It's so full of magic, beauty and has a nice soundtrack, but always felt a bit abandoned too. What a shame most of the coastline was divided by invisible walls. Anyway, great video! Waiting for the next one.

The Ghostlands is one of my all-time favorite zones! It's so rich in lore & the Troll and Scourge presence there made for such a great opening experience for young Blood Elves. Blizzard's art dept really went above & beyond for this zone

At 3:16, where you find the invisible wall and give the explanation that they're not connected to the Eastern Kingdoms, meaning the developers decided to put these barriers to prevent you from swimming into the void: - During the early days of World of Warcraft, with the original release and The Burning Crusade expansion, the developers did restrict access to certain zones for players who didn't own the corresponding expansion. Therefore, the 'invisible walls' and 'separated areas' were created as a result, call them 'DLC Paywalls'. I remember getting ported out with a message: "You need to own 'The Burning Crusade' expansion to access this area" - The argument that 'the area was added later and that's why' can't hold up either since 'Twilight Highlands' and 'Uldum' were added later, and they don't function separately like 'Ghostlands' or 'Azuremyst Isle'.

I know you came to some pretty logical conclusions, but that's not what the WoW dev diary tells us at all. The World Map in Vanilla reached a max capacity of what they could add, so the devs had to build Quel'Thalas an Azuremyst Isle on the Outland map. If you go ingame and glitch your way into the far east of Outland, you will find these two starting zones. The argument why 'Twilight Highlands' and 'Uldum' could be added later is because they revamped the entire world map in Cataclysm so they can allow player to fly freely without flying into invisible void zones. They didn't incorporate the TBC zones during the Cata revamp because those zones were still stuck on the Outland map.

To think that the Blood Elf and draenei areas are actually in the same map of Outland. Just far far away from them. Plus I think that even if you could get into Silvermoon from any sides but the main gates would put you under it since the city isn't fully there.

@@Jediwarlock Well the city are more like a building in older movies. (just a facade). Which is why all, but Thunderbluff, have nearly the same entrance of going around something or a long path. Plus I already check them out using my hunter's eagle eye and it was something.

It is so strange to revisit some of these places and see how abandoned they are in retail WoW. When the Isle of Quel'Thalas opened it was *OVERRUN* by thousands upon thousands of players because they had not introduced the "shard" technology into the game (which limits how many people are in an instance of the open world). This is my own headcanon, but I am convinced that the crowding of mounted players around quest givers changed how they designed the world; in most content from Wrath of the Lich King forward, players are automatically dismounted when they get within the close radius of a quest giver. I remember people macro-screaming "MOVE" to the 40+ characters all on giant bear mounts which were covering up the quest-giver which made it so that you couldn't target them to either turn in nor receive quests. But the aesthetic of Quel'Thalas remains beautiful and was a perfect mixture of high-fantasy and steampunk.

One of my big pie in the sky dreams is for some absolute madlad at Blizz to somehow model the terrain so it can actually be moved into the same worldspace as the rest of the Eastern Kingdoms. I know it's not going to happen, I just... really want there to be some sort of update. A renovation of Silvermoon, a reestablishment of elven farm villages along the partly-healed scar, more horde visitors in the city, etc. etc. SOMETHING to justify such a big investment in work and remove all those invisible walls and the partial textures.

I'm a bit sad you didn't put much research into the numerous ways to get out of bounds in Ghostlands and Eversong. There's some really interesting stuff! Like a massive unistanced version of ZA and weird mountain flatlands, and a sea that is a lot closer than the map. Out of bounds exploring in wow is a lot of fun with some clever use of game mechanics. The top of Silvermoon is an amusing experience too.

I see what you are saying. But he is exploring the WORLD of warcraft, it’s oddities and landmarks. Those out of bounds areas were never meant to be seen and only exist as apart of development, to fill space and what not. Moreover, in the lore of Warcraft those areas don’t exist. Those are cool areas but a lot of the out of bounds stuff can be ignored for this series and focused on in another maybe, if warlock finds that stuff interesting. But I would like to see some areas like the STV ogre caves or the SW flight path waterfall house, and the various hidden rp areas (example the Arathi knoll camp in the hills) in almost every zone, and other flight path only areas, that do not break the lore or world of the game and should be explored. Many can be “reached” easily with shaman’s farsight and there are guides on how to jump up too them, if those still work in Classic (I dont know).

@@Jediwarlock it’s here to describe but it’s in between the ogre caves and wither bark camps in the southeast part of the zone. the camp is there in both Classic and retail, in Classic it was unused and just there, in retail it was eventually used for a BfA rare ogre.

​@@maruraba1478 alot of the "unused stuff" in Classic was only ever intended as a visual landmark for players while on flight paths. They figured that during testing the game, the player was flying from visual landmark to visual landmark etc, like the world was boring in between the towns you were already flying to and from. I guess they figured the best fix was to add places and towns that are not already the destination of the players so as to jazz up the scenery. There's too many examples of these but I'll name a few - Ironforge Airport, Wetlands Farmstead, Shatterspear Troll Tribe, Grim Batol Peaks and Stonetalon Mountains Camp. All not accessible through conventional travel methods but I think I've visited 100% of that list in the 1.13.x Classic version of the game (using Male Orc, sometimes some races or genders hit boxes are not the right shape or height to correctly glitch or jump). Also note that it is only Alliance flight routes that will have view of these extra spots, Bliz never fails in their ongoing romance with Alliance races! Some of the locations that do break the lore of the game or are noncanonical, existing as just testing/filler projects like your first comment suggested maruraba, *chef's kiss* for Bliz leaving these in the game even if they are just barren empty zones. The visuals that exist is really what the appreciation is for. Favourite locations include - Hyjal pre Cataclysm, Caverns of Time pre TBC, GM Island and Stormwind Vault/Prison (this one survived after Cata I believe). Ok so my next shout out goes to locations that ARE completely canonical but are not intended as visual effects or for flying routes players would take and were just unused content or creative player movement. Old Ironforge, underneath the city in Classic were some strange winding rooms and a door at the top of a ramp that lead to the throne room of King Magni, Undercity having a whole upper level with empty rooms and empty vendor stalls the same style as below and that cannot be accessed unless jumping from the top of the gates outside and clipping through the roof, Getting on top of the gates of Orgrimmar and eventually ontop of the Valley of Strength which can be combined with sprinting and slow fall to get on the zeppelin that is stuck above the flight masters, players climbing the walls of AQ40 pre release and lastly players using AQ40 wall climbing and 45 minutes of Noggenfogger slow fall to get to the roof of the Inn in Crossroads The Barrens (mainly Alliance players for the head of rend blackhand).

if you're able to see Silvermoon from above near the academy you'll see the game-wise, it is a broken mess of smoke and mirrors. You can easily fall into the abyss.

Caves are super mob dense and 50% of them are labyrinth style layouts. They are also fairly common requiring sooo many hours to explore all, and not to mention super bland. Yes I'm all for it! Cave eps pls
