This is all about why I switched to a floor desk to improve my health. I now sit and work on the floor as much as possible and in this video I explain why I decided to do this and the benefits I've noticed so far. ✨🎥❤️ I JUST GOT THE FLOOR SIT TO STANDING DESK!! Here's the video! • I tried a floor sit to...
This comes on the heels of me giving my traditional bed away and switching to a Japanese floor futon. I was able to turn my existing desk into a floor desk for just a few bucks and I feel it's a great way to go if you already have a desk and want to save money. I'm just learning about the world of furniture-free living and I'm loving it so far!

Fidgeting is just the natural reality of how humans are meant to live and rest. People see it as a negative thing, but really sitting motionless in one position is only possible with hyper-normal comfortable modern furniture. You're supposed to be constantly moving when you're awake. As they say, the best position is the next position. The reality of floor living is that your'e going to be changing positions every few minutes. That's a good thing.

I was sitting with my legs crossed and folded and had my computer setup on a small coffee table. I can get comfortable(it was likely after I put my bed cushions on the floor) sitting on the floor, but the result of that is that my legs don't get circulation and I couldn't stand up for 0.5-1 minutes, that was the case for both having my legs crossed and folded.

Chairs are among the 4 inventions bad for our bodies: beds, chairs, sitting toilets and shoes. Sitting on the floor, or anything not chair, causes you to sit more dynamically. Move more, shift your center of gravity and engage muscles - especially core and reflexive ones - that improve stability. We aren't meant to be cushioned to disability. Ditch over-comfort.

Hanging is the BEST chiropractic doctor. It opens up the discs and re-aligns the spine. It's great for people who get slipped discs, bulged disc, or worst, pinched nerves in the spine, or just people who lift a lot of heavy things day to day. It was one of the exercises that helped me re-align the spine and start healing the spine. My dad even built a pull up bar in his back yard, that's how beneficial it is.
@Runner8617

I STRONGLY support the purchase of rings or any pull up equipment for EVERYONE, but especially people who suffer from spine injuries or pinched nerves. It was a game changer for me and my dad. And much less $ than going to a chiropractor or surgeon who have the potential of making things WORST if they are too harsh or don't know what they are doing. And yes, I've heard of chiropractors who have injured their clients and made them crippled.

Incorporating movement into your daily routine is so much easier than trying to carve out exercise time. I have a floor bed and a floor desk, and I also have a freestanding pull-up bar. I do draw the line at living and dining rooms though for my guests' sake.

Yes I agree it’s easier to incorporate movement in daily routine! For me, in my old house I used to have one couch but then also a pillow mountain so it was the best of both worlds for the living room. In my kitchen I actually had a regular height dining table and then a smaller floor dining table off to the side depending on our mood. I might do something similar but for now we do have some regular dining seating if we end up having guests. But I don’t have many people I’d invite over anyway so I guess we are fine lollllllllll

When I first started at my standing desk I was only able to stand for about 10 to 15 minutes and I was tired. Over the course of months I came to the point where I wanted and was able to stand eight hours, the whole work shift. Was wonderful. I actually think standing is better than sitting on the ground. But that's just my body not being comfortable sitting for a long time. The hours I sleep and lay in bed reading is the time that my Body is resting.

Thank you for sharing your insights! It makes sense and that's awesome you are able to stand for 8 hours straight! I think anything is better than having to sit in a regular office chair position. I just love the benefits that come with sitting on the floor b/c there's a lot more... getting up (squatting and such). I would say my main goal is to always be moving my body in all the different positions and directions that it was built to maneuver, and sitting in a chair all day is not that. HAHAHHAHA. I appreciate you watching!

Our hips are meant for more mobility than being in one position, yet most of our time is in a chair.

I randomly stumbled upon your video and really love the way you present yourself-- it's really authentic and refreshing! I do have to say though, as someone who has a lot of back problems, many of my chiropractors have said that sitting cross legged on the floor actually isn't good for you because the pressure accumulates at the base of your spine/lower back and there's not as much blood flow going through your legs over long periods of time. I imagine moving around definitely helps but I hope no one in the comments gets dissuaded from a standard setup with a chair as well. Your setup honestly looks fun, and I would try it if I didn't have so many issues myself.
@natashatheresa
@natashatheresa Ай бұрын
I truly appreciate your kind and thoughtful comment! You are right, for sure, if I were to sit cross legged for a prolonged period of time it would be no bueno. I definitely move around like every 1-2 minutes, even as I make this comment hahaha. It's crazy too b/c I have actually had a lot of back problems especially after I had my kiddos, luckily i lived next door to my chiro so I could visit him regularly throughout my 30s hahahaha. But I felt like, perhaps there were other things I needed ot look into which could be the source of my back pain. Personally, for me, I started exploring barefoot shoes and over the course of a year, my knees, ankles, and my lower back all seemed to get stronger. my lingering back pain faded into distant memory when it had been a companion for decade. It made me think more intentionally about how i move my body and how everything is connected from my toes all the way up to my head. I could write a whol eessay about how little changes I've made over the years have produced the limber 40 year old you see in this video LOLLLLLLL. of course, results may vary and one thing doesn't work for all, but as I sit here on my newly acquired zafu cushion, with my legs stretched undearneath my desk, i can see how it's helping my posture. In a few moments I'll switch it up as well. I realized that part of my issue was i was spending sooo much time sitting - i would drive for many hours each week for commutes and for church purposes, I'd sit at my office desk hours on end barely moving. I had to find ways to counteract this, and while I worked out regularly and lifted weights, it really wasnt' enough to undo my normal actions throughout each day. So that is why I started modifying how i do things, at least the things within my control. I thank you for being here and for sharing your knowledge as well! Ideally, I want to be able to do a mix of floor sitting, sitting at a chair, AND standing. That would be ideal to just keep mixing it up hehehe!

The way you are getting up from the floor and sitting back down is wonderful for your being. Ability to do that is considered a real bonus for me and my senior friends. Your future self will thank you. 😃 Olympic rings have my vote! I take any chance I get to hang from the playground bars. I laughed out loud when I saw you take off n cut the table legs to make them closer to floor. 😃😃😃 For months I am trying to convince my husband to shorten the dining table height by cutting the legs by 2/3rd or get a floor dining table :) After all being Indians it is in our genes to do everything sitting on floor, right from morning exercise, daily worship, studying, book-keeping, cooking, eating, reading scriptures in the afternoon in front of the home alter, sleeping, literally everything! Bending back and forth to eat is healthier than sitting up straight and gulp. Even our toilets are squat ones like Japanese. That's why colon cancer is not that common in eastern world compared to Western world. I am trying to go back to traditional ways as much as possible in day-to-day routine as well as a spiritual life goal (after being in the rat race of modern life for 2 decades) because they have proven to be most healthy and have long lasting effect on our mental health too.
