I did not. And the one I mentioned in the video that I went with has died. It made it about 2 years. Kind of a frustrating situation. I may go with one from my furniture store where I bought the recliner. The told me they would last a lot longer. They also told me they were about $175.

Great video, thanks for the info. I just bought two batteries for my 2 sofas. Have you found one where you can track the life of the battery of your phone through an app? I think that would be really good

You can only compare Wh (watt hours) for different batteries. mAh ratings are only comparable for batteries at the same voltage. Furniture batteries are 24V to 30V and 2500 mAh gives you around 50 to 70 Wh (watt hours). Those USB battery packs are only 5V (or less), so those huge 42,000mAh ratings are divided by 5 to 10 depending on the voltage for this application.

If you have a basement, It may be cheaper in the long run to have an electrician to install a floor outlet with brass cover.

Very useful comparison, the battery pack on my single seat recliner is starting to lose capacity since a year ago, when I first bought this pack (2012) it used to last 3 weeks or so but nowadays is half that , after seeing the prices of more reliable packs, I've decided to buy the 18650 cells and replace them myself, I have all the necessary tools to do the job but the difference is the quality of the cells I'll be using is much better and with verified 3000mAh capacity. it seems to be the better option.

That's awesome. This one is starting to get weak too. It has to be charged every 3 days or so now. How difficult is it to replace the cells? I have a lot of tools just not sure on the knowledge to due that. Theirs not a lot I am intimidated by but anything electrical is where I lose confidence.

@@DadsGarageDIY I would watch a few videos on how to make e bike batteries, you also will need a spot welder but the actual, nickel strips,etc. job of replacing the cells is not hard at all.

@@DadsGarageDIY I understand your reluctance , but it is easier than you think ,BTW, your video is 2 years old so I assume you changed the battery pack around then, I expected a much longer life from that battery pack than 2 years , mine lasted 6-8 years before it started to get weak. the brand was KAIDI Electric. I'm not sure if they are still around. maybe it's worth looking for a better manufacturer. best of luck.

Wow...we were considering these when moved, but I'm thinking of just selling the furniture and going manual. It really depends on the house we buy. My wife likes these open floor-plans and many of them don't have the floor outlets.

This was something I completely missed when we were building. Now, I am still suffering with changing batteries. I will probably move to a non powered too when we replace this one. The Lazy-boy battery pack says that a sofa with 2 recliners will require 2 battery packs. But the sofa only has one electric plug-in. Do you know if this is true?

Hi Annie. I don't have a Lazy-boy. So, I really can't say. But, mine has only 1 place for a power source. Not quite sure how it could if when you plug it in directly to the wall it only has 1 plug. If you only got 11 days, I am wondering if your recliner has a USB port which is a constant drain even if not charging a phone or tablet. My new recliner arrives tomorrow and first thing I'll do is locate the USB power supply and disconnect that. And eventually maybe add a switch, but first of all, I will disconnect it. Can you tell me if my guess is correct? I would like to know! Thx!

Mine does have usb ports but I have never used them. Now that the kids have moved out the battery lasted a little longer. I have now gone through a few more that will no longer charge. I'm tired of buying batteries and I'm now just running the cord across the floor and hoping not to trip. When I get another one I'm going to try one from my furniture store that I got the recliner from. He assured me his would last longer per charge and in general than these that I'm getting on Amazon. Please let me know how what you get and how it goes for you.

Just curious couldn't you just use a normal battery pack with a 110 outlet on it that has 42,000 mah and slide that under the couch last a lot longer?

I'm not sure if I missed it but did you mention what kind of recliner you are using these batteries with? Is it a single seater recliner? A love seat with 2 recliners? A sectional?

These batteries are designed as a power failure/battery backup. If you lose AC power to your home while reclined, then you have no way to get out of the chair except to climb out/fall out. The battery allows you to lower the chair to its regular position so you can get out of it. Lazy-boy has a small battery in some of their chairs just for this reason. Choosing a different size battery pack would be based on how big your recliner(s) are and how long your power outages typically last.

Hi Stephen. These batteries are actually for either purpose. They can be used as a backup for a power outage but their main purpose is to be used as a replacement for 110v. In my case as with many people we have a power recliner that doesn't sit near a wall and options are limited. Anyway, I really appreciate you watching and the comment. I just bought a lazy boy recliner that also has two USB ports. My couch doesn’t have a switch to turn these off. I’ve read that just having the USB ports even though not in use will draw more from the battery. If this isn’t true I don’t have problem getting one of these batteries, as I figure if I really want to use the USB ports I’ll just unplug the battery and switch directly to cord while I’m using them. But I don’t want to buy a battery if just having the USB ports is going to drain the battery. How long will these batteries last for couches having a non switch off USB ports ?

Hi Brandon. Mine also has the USB's. I have forbid anyone from using them because I know the battery life will even be worse if they use them. Some of the batteries have like a little disconnect that you can pull up between a cushion. That way you can "kill" the battery power while you are not using it. I have never tried it. It seemed too inconvenient. I still to this day cycle 2 batteries so I always have one ready.

That is a very good question. I think for 1 they are quite large. For 2 (I may be wrong) I wouldn't expect one to last very long on a charge. Even a fairly large UPS like the CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD says it will only stay up for 12 minutes at a half load. I would think those chair motors would draw a lot since they are lifting a body. I don't know though. I am just thinking out loud. I think this is a great question zanzibar. If I had one I would test it. Although, they are so large I would have to lift my couch in order to slide it under. That's some great thinking. I really appreciate the thoughts.

That's exactly what I did with an APC 850 VA. But when I charged it up, it got very warm. And I do not want something that could potentially overheat in my 90-year-old father's assisted living apartment. I bought a P25 instead, since we only need it for power outages and we'll keep it charged up all the time.

So you guys that have a lot of battery powered tools, why didn't you just buy the AC/DC adapter for the battery? A M-18 battery 12 AH is equivalent to 12000 mah. You already have the batteries so why no use them instead? Seems like it would work well if not better!

I thought this was a great idea so I looked into it. Unfortunately, Milwaukee's Top-Off inverter automatically times out after a period of inactivity. You have to push a button to turn it on, so not an ideal solution for a recliner.

The problem is a light, USB port, or some other feature in the furniture (even if not used). Contact Enouvation & they will get you set up where the battery actually will last months.

@@DadsGarageDIY yep. They can constantly drain power even if they are not used. Send them an email with pics of your furniture & buttons. I can almost guarantee they can get it resolved. My recliner battery lasts about 6 months between recharges.
