You can also shatter tempered/automotive glass with a broken piece of ceramic, like off of a spark plug. You don't even have to hit it hard, just gently lob it at the glass and it will shatter.

For those interested: the charcoal seems to be the kind used to burn incense. It is a blend of wood charcoal dust, a sprinkle of saltpeter and some coke dust compressed together. It is made to give off a constant, allbeit low heat over a long time and will not easily go out by fat dripping onto it. Whe using it for cooking, I recommend waiting untill the patties have a gray coating of ash. This way you can be sure that the saltpeter is burned off.

The front windshield is quite different, however, so while this device may or may not shatter a front windshield, it won't do you any good in actually getting out through a front windshield.

The charcoal is called "quick lights" very similar to those uses for smoking hooka. You can buy small logs of them for about $4 here. Comes in a pack of 8. They don't flame like a normal briquette. The reason is because an open flame is harder to control. Makes sense why they use it in a survival box. Everything in that box seems very well though out. Great vid!!

I am a Paramedic, I have that exact same seat belt/window break. It shatters car windows every time, on the first try. FYI. Don’t push the window break button down, using your thumb. When I first got it, I thought I I had to push the mechanism down to prime it. ( my previous one had to be primed ) My thumb nail turned black for a 2 months.

Those charcoals are designed to be lit with a match. Basically a small flame lights the outside and the saltpeter sparks it up to ignite the whole thing. Any hookah smoker will tell you that you barley light those and the second they stop sparkling, you blow it to red hot gently. Not the greatest for cooking but definitely an excellent way to light damp wood. You can buy more at a smoke shop.

Glass bottles aren't tempered and won't shatter like car windows. Tempered glass also resists blunt force better than regular glass

I believe the strap is supposed to go around the handle of the hatchet so you can use it as a hammer with the sheath on. I have seen this kind of charcoal in the form of disks for burning incense. You put one in a brazier (a bowl full of sand or salt), light one edge with a match or lighter and a wave of sparks slowly spreads over the entire thing then you wait for it to start turning white and add the incense.
