Pinoy in Florida. You got skills. You could have used a one inch particle board for the top. It's a lot smoother than plywood. When I was 20, I worked part-time for a billiard store here in America. We set up pool tables that were bought from the store. The cheap ones have particle board for top instead of real slate. Some of the sides have 2 or 3 bolts for bumper adjustments. You can make it 4 1/2 ft x 9ft by piecing together 3 boards

Excellent work and a fantastic finished piece! But I will have to say, having built quite a few of these myself as a hobby, I know wooden bases just don't work. A wooden base is nothing like the real deal, you have to have granite slates as the base for a smooth operation, a wooden base offers too much bounce, inconsistency, friction and chipping, even under the felt. Using granite slabs might be a bit more expensive but is totally worth it, it will save you a ton of time and resources. Plus your inside edges where the balls will strike are a wee bit high from what I can see, maybe it will matter, maybe not but the middle of the ball should hit the middle of the extension of the inside edge. I will say this though, am an experienced woodworker and DIY guy building things for more than a decade now but without a doubt you are a lot more skilled than I am. This is still a great option for DIY folk, keep making them videos! Cheers

Can a concrete base work as the granite one?

You could tell when the balls rolled at the end it was nothing short of not level at all. Still super impressive video, the guy has a lot of talent.

A lot of people are saying he should have used slate for his table. I get it, it's objectively, in every way, better. There is no question about that. When you don't have a guitar, but you want to play music, hammer a couple nails, string it up and play it with a slide. When you don't have any pool table, but you have the passion or desire to play, you can wait for the right set of circumstances and materials to come along, or you can work with what you have. He gets to play pool whenever he wants, and if and when the day comes that he can get a good piece of slate, he can build a slate table, but right here right now, today, he can play, and maybe that's the thing that matters to him.

I've wondered for a while how practical it would be to build myself a pool table seeing as they are very expensive and I've got most of the tools I'd need already, but this is really impressive. Gives me hope that in spite of my being new to woodworking I might one day yet built myself a garbage little mdf topped table for playing blackball.

I would like to build one similar to what you did. I have a question. How did you connect the 4 corners? You did not show it on the video. If you have to replace the felt, is the top rail constructed in one piece of is it detachable into 4 pieces? Also, what is the size of the base table where you attach the felt? Is it a full sheet of ply? Salamat in advance sa answer.
@GHAOST2 жыл бұрын
There's a reason to billiard factory use is slate if you use wood for the bottom especially plywood you're going to have warping unless you live in the desert.

I've thought this too. It will get you clear of that hollow wood feeling. Perhaps even a mix of Portland cement and fine sand in a wet mix in top of the board about 25mm thick would do too.
