Yep, the truth is that these are 'face value' Christians, who are only adopting some of the rules. If they were truly following the bible the brother should have been kicked out for adultery, given that unlike homosexuality, adultery actually has punishment lined out in the bible. And while yes Jesus himself didn't follow through with punishment, it was still expressly lined out to not commit adultery. Though fun fact, the bible verse about homosexuality only refers to guys. So it could be argued that OP is fine and didn't sin, this is without reinterpreting the written words: "A man shall not lie with another man as he would a woman." Unfortunately, 1, 3 and 4 are easier said than done. Cash is pretty easy to discover when you have super controlling parents (even hiding it with someone is a risk - people keep secrets like pasta drainers). Birth Certificates, SS Cards, passports, and DL/State ID's all require a parental signature to obtain if you're under age, and parents aren't even required to obtain the first or second in many states, and parents certainly don't have to give their minor children access to those documents. I can only think of a handful of shelters that will take in unaccompanied minor children in the US overnight, due to legal issues (and it's a really tough place to put individuals who mean well in). The system is unfortunately stacked against anyone in this situation in the US, and many, if not most other countries. I'm so confused.... How'd the parents know she was lying? It's not like she's dated anyone to prove she's bi. And only her best friend knows but I'm confident the parents didn't phone her up and get her to snitch on OP?
@JariDawnchild2 жыл бұрын
It's the culture of the household informed by their misguided view of Christianity. The brother is faultless because of his status as the oldest child, while OP is at fault for being bi even if she can lie herself out of the situation. The parents will automatically trust the older son's word over the younger daughter's. To them, it doesn't matter whether or not she was actually lying because the first stone was already cast and that's all they see. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." means nothing to them, the same with about 98.5% of their religion and its holy texts. The remaining bits they do care about are routinely removed from the cultural and historical context of the people who wrote it, as well as the context of the surrounding text. Plus, the Bible was written by several individuals and each book was it's own independent work as well; it's not contextually compatible with itself.

Mallory dear. I personally think that if you would not be accepted by most of your family for being fully and unapologetically who you are that you are not the problem. It means your family members are very shitty people. In all of my decades on this earth I can honestly say that I have never once been harmed in any way, shape or form by what 2 consenting adults have done sexually in the privacy of their own relationship. It is none of my business and none of theirs either. I have noticed in the 10 commandments that is talks about thou shall not commit adultry, and not coveting your neighbors goods or wife, but appearently despite with far right fundimentalst christians say the "sins" of not being straight was not important enough to make the top ten. And in all the teachings of Jesus in the new testament he actually never addresses anything about the "sins" of the LBGTQ community. I think it is sick and twisted for anyone to be passing judgement on anyone elses sexuality as long as all involved are consenting adults. I know that at this point in my life I believe the who, what, how, and when of my sex life is no one business, and I would never in a million years be telling anyone that if their sexually was different than mine they are sinful and wrong. I am so sick of all of these tiny minded people who because they are repressed asshole believe they can make others do as they say.

Assuming story 2's parents are Christian, I always wonder where they get the idea that homosexuality is a bad thing... There has only been a single instance in scripture where it's allegedly said that "a man should not lie with a man as he does with a woman," and that's in the Old Testament. It's a quote directed from the book of Leviticus. I could go on and on about all the absurd things the book forbids which for some reason are completely ignored and forgotten by the ones who are so quick to swear by it. Mixing fabrics; eating pork, horse, shellfish, rabbit, blood; going to church 1 or 2 months after giving birth- you can't even TOUCH the carcass of an unclean animal. This includes just about any pet, by the way. Most bugs, too... All forbidden. Drinking in church, even just a sip, is also forbidden. In the case of the parents, failing to testify against their son's wrongdoings is a very fitting one I'd say. True sacrilege.

You know...this came out alright but the "weight of the world" was put on themselves by their actions. The mother and uncle-dad didn't have to lie to him his whole life and half-dad and his wife didn't have to keep him away. Dad's wife was to blame, but so we're all the other lying adults. I mean dad cut off contact simply because the people he abandoned moved on from his having moved away. He expected them to just stay in a state of limbo. He was dumb not to expect feelings to be caught when his brother was there helping her with everything. I don't know. This has a very positive update for OP but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for all the adults involved. Uncle-dad the least of all though he isn't blameless.

A friend of mine married a guy whose stepdad was his uncle. There was no cheating. First his mom married his dad & quickly had 2 boys. They were still toddlers when the divorce happened. Then a couple years after that, she started dating her exBIL, they got married & very soon followed a daughter. So my friend's hubby & BIL had a little sister that was also their cousin, & both actually called their uncle "dad". They occasionally saw their bio dad, but to them their stepdad was the steady dad in their life, even when that marriage eventually ended in divorce after a decade or so.

In the first story I think bio dad got off way to easy. He and ops mom were cheats but bio dad feels he has a right to feel butt hurt and turn his back on his brother when brother is the one that took care of and raised the child he walked away from. Uncle/step dad is the only classy one in the bunch. Even if bio dads wife did accept op in the end she did make bio dad walk out of ops life. She was a victim too but she still kept a dad away from his child and doesn’t seem like bio dad fought against it. Uncle cleaned up bio dads mess and stepped up and as a reward his brother /bio dad acts like he has the right to feel betrayed.

Honestly the brother outing their sibling out of spite is really 💩 I mean he cheated on his girlfriend so OP was right saying he shouldn’t have done that and she’s not gonna take her brother side. The way the parents are doubting and even spoiling him when it comes to his attempts to get attention. Honestly considering he cheated on his girlfriend and expected sympathy from all ends it was surprise me that he would out his LGBT+ sibling out of spite. He honestly is a spoiled brat and the parents aren’t helping by not telling him there are consequences to his actions/he did this to himself. Regarding the update, I found it really weird how Dad was basically blaming himself… Like saying that they need to be more involved in OP‘s life so they can set a better example…..huh? Really irritating how they acted like the brother being a petty spiteful AH was an act of God….. It honestly does sound like a lost cause, OP needs to move out as soon as possible. Move out, get away from the church, get away from the parents, and absolutely do nothing with your brother. If he comes to your doorstep needing help because he got kicked out the house for some reason…..slam the door in his face.

Alas with this camp of religious nutjobs [there are accepting cool Christians out there so this is aimed at overzealous loonies], a common form of bigotry aside from homophobia is full blown misogyny the son can seldom do any wrong as long as he's straight/the "ideal" man and the daughter is constantly in reminding of her place because ass backwards gender roles deem her the lesser sex. I hope OP can get out of there soon and wash her hands of this gross ass toxic family.

The dad only moved away, I think, because his wife wanted it. Mind you, while the sidepiece was alright with being a sidepiece, the wife wasn't happy her husband had basically cheated. There are occasional situations where two people agree to share a partner while keeping separate lives, but the wife's reaction upon discovering the sidepiece shows no such agreement was reached.
